Thanks for the comments, guys As posted in the other thread, I think that reading between the lines, as the 'expensive watches' are listed as having genuine Swiss movements, it's reasonable to say that it's unsaid, that the cheaper watches have the Asian movements. I took it into a watchsmiths for examination, and was wondering, could glass particles damage the movement beyond repair, or should a stripdown and cleaning be sufficient to get it working again? (It was working after the initial impact, and when the large chunks were removed, but stopped after I blew on it...)
-
I guess these things happen, it's not worth me getting too angry over, the movement will either be repairable, or I'll just buy another watch (whichever is the cheapest option) and either way, (once I hear back from my dealer) my fiance's said she'll pay for the 127 (can't bring myself to use The 'F' Word ) as my birthday present (should arrive either on the day, or the day after ) I'm sure whatever you send will be fantastic, and place my trust in your judgement

Cancel the note to self... The watch landed on carpet. One end of the bracelet was attached, and, when I removed the leather strap from the other lug, the weight pulled it from my hand. The damage was caused, not by the watch hitting the floor, but by the strap whipping the clasp into the center of the back... As I said, it wasn't worth getting mad over, and, the promise of a 127 for my birthday more than makes up for the temporary loss (as I am sure it is repairable )

Just to clear up a few points, I know there were some inaccuracies to the genuine 111h specifications, but these are the things that I can guarantee about the watch: The watch does have a sandwich dial. I admit, the top layer is very thin, and my photos do not really capture this aspect well, but it does have a sandwich dial. The case is brushed. The bezel and the crown guards are polished. I know this is inaccurate, but, I like the contrast it makes, and it blends better with the SS Bracelet. The movement, is as identified in the other thread, an Asian copy of a Unitas movement. Now, the sale did not specify that the movement was Asian, but, there were other watches of much higher prices, where the movements were specified as genuine Swiss. I admit, it is reading between the lines, and deducing one thing from something else, but by pricing, it was never suggested by the dealer that the movement was genuine Swiss, ergo, it had to be an Asian copy. I've taken the watch in to have the movement examined and hopefully repaired. It was working after I dropped it, and when I shook the 'chunks' out of the case, it was still working, however, it stopped working when I blew into the case (not realizing I could remove it) and potentially blew glass dust into the works. Hopefully, a strip down and clean, and it will work. If the watch smith says the movement needs replacing, I will likely not have any work done to it, as I do not believe that blowing glass dust would have ruined the movement beyond repair...

Indeed, this was the 'base line' movement, there were others more expensive. I've never had a problem with the dealer or doubted their honesty, I just figured that as the caseback had to be opened, it would be interesting to see if what was inside actually was as described
-
Ahh. On the dealer's listings, there are watches for about 2-3 times the price which are then identified as having Genuine Swiss ETA movements... So would it be fair to say that it was a reasonable description?
-
So would the listing: "High quality Unitas 6497 Movement" be accurate?
-
So I had to take the caseback off my 111h for no particular reason... I just wondered what the movement experts could make of the movement itself (in terms of identifying it) as I figured this was the best way to find out if I actually received was as advertized. Here's the pics...
-
Well, I figure it's not really something I can do anything about, so no sense in me getting stressed over it. The most frustrating thing, is the thought that I might have fouled the movement myself by trying to clear it, so that's definitely going to require costs in repairs... I'm posting pics of the movement in a moment, and yes, I think the 127 as a replacement has taken the sting out. Lucky for me that it's my birthday next week
-
Funny you should mention that... I think I'll stick with my own source, at least I know what I order is what I'll receive
-
I wouldn't go so far as to say 'devastating', but I'm pretty annoyed with myself Even more so, as when I shook the remains out, the movement sprang back to life, so, I thought I'd blow through the hole to try and clear any small dust particles, but it's now completely died. Something tells me that the movement's going to need a complete stripdown to make suere there's nothing fouling it before a replacement caseback can be fitted... OH well, I needed a reason to put my Planet Ocean Big Size back on Thanks What can I say? [censored] happens... I was talking with my fiance, and she said she'd order me the 127 as a replacement for my birthday next week, rather than for christmas It was clearly Allah's will that it get broken so I could have the replacement Something good coming from something bad

Or this will happen:
-
Personally, I've never seen one... Any strap experts care to field the question?

It's a sick world...

Anyone in UK ordering something from Silix?
TeeJay replied to piratedzeus's topic in General Discussion
I'm still waiting on the replacement dial for my Vintage Submariner, (because they shipped the wrong watch) and a jubilee bracelet I ordered (which they never put in the parcel) Over a month now, no email, no tracking number, nothing. Not impressed -
I trust Bently custom-fitted super comfy seats for him...

Indeed, depending on the level of action taken, it's pretty much flogging a dead horse, and a waste of product and profit for the supplier. I think in situations like this, the suggestion of ordering things to a friend's address might be a good idea.
-
I couldn't get used to it on the SS, it just 'felt' like I was wearing a new watch, so put it back on the stock leather strap, and it 'feels' like 'my watch' again
-
I'm absolutely shocked that the Omega Planet Ocean Big Size wasn't on the list at all
-
No problem for me either, I sent funds to my dealer earlier ordering a new PAM for my best friend's birthday, and that went through without hitch

My theme of 'movie watches', is partly down to the fact that I was a student of film studies (I'm technically, a qualified film maker ) and my overall collecting passion is for TV/Movie memorabelia. I have a phaser rifle from Star Trek: First Contact, resin sculpts of the lightsabers used by Samuel L. Jackson and Liam Neeson, a replica of the jacket Tom Cruise wore in Minority Report, one of the hero swords from the Highlander TV series, one of Blade's swords, and assorted other nicknacks. My collection is nowhere near as extensive as some collectors, but I have a few nice pieces. For me, watches are a way of collecting something from movies which don't really have any 'collectable items'. Something I have been looking for for well over a decade, is the black and grey T-Shirt worn by Kurt Russell in Tango & Cash... A future project (probably within the year) will be to create a faux-front of an old British police phone box, just like the Doctor's TARDIS (I have four different replicas of the Sonic Screwdriver) which is to go over the front door of the narrow boat-sized 'shed' my fiance and I are converting to live in. It has greenary round the door, and my guinea pig hutches disguise the majority of the shed's structure, so if a TARDIS 'front' was placed infront of the door, it would have, at first glance, the impression of being larger on the inside than the outside

That is the other option I am considering, as, although I'm getting more accustomed to the SS, I find straps more comfortable against the back of my hand than bracelets... I'm not too knowledgeable on PAM serial numbers, what would the 220/221 look like? Indeed, I don't think they make them that big. Thanks As mentioned above, I'm not too knowledgeable on the serial numbers, so I might be wrong... I'm sure the movement's not got the right bridges, and I'm not sure if the case should be brushed or not (although I do like that it has a brushed case and polished bezel and crownguard, as, on leather, it makes a nice contrast, and on SS, it blends with the 'theme' of the bracelet of polished over brushed The dial is a sandwich dial, with L Swiss L at the base. Oh I trust you that it looks good, I like how it looks, it just 'feels' like a new watch, rather than 'my watch' with a new bracelet... I'm still wearing the SS so I can try and get over that 'new watch' feeling No hurry on Me So Horny, get well soon Thanks, PM sent

Overall theme, 'movie watches'. At the moment, it's just Bond, with the majority being Omega and Rolex, but I plan on getting some PAMs which have featured in movies as compensation. The overall 'style' of watches I like most, is definitely diver's watches.

That's why I never have To be honest, the attitude that comes over on his site is not one I'm comfortable doing business with, so I never have. That said, others seem to be more than happy with him, so I guess it's just one of those things.
