  1. So I had to take the caseback off my 111h for no particular reason... :whistling:;):D

I just wondered what the movement experts could make of the movement itself (in terms of identifying it) as I figured this was the best way to find out if I actually received was as advertized. Here's the pics...

  2. Got to say TJ you are taking this well, i remember when i dropped my marina militare vintage i was fuming for a good couple of days. Good news about the 127 though. That has got to make to you feel better.

Well, I figure it's not really something I can do anything about, so no sense in me getting stressed over it. The most frustrating thing, is the thought that I might have fouled the movement myself by trying to clear it, so that's definitely going to require costs in repairs... I'm posting pics of the movement in a moment, and yes, I think the 127 as a replacement has taken the sting out. Lucky for me that it's my birthday next week :D

  3. Uh-oh, at least you got one day with the bracelet on.... Must be devastating.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 'devastating', but I'm pretty annoyed with myself  Even more so, as when I shook the remains out, the movement sprang back to life, so, I thought I'd blow through the hole to try and clear any small dust particles, but it's now completely died. Something tells me that the movement's going to need a complete stripdown to make suere there's nothing fouling it before a replacement caseback can be fitted... OH well, I needed a reason to put my Planet Ocean Big Size back on :D

Ah [censored] mate sorry to see that

Thanks :) What can I say? [censored] happens... I was talking with my fiance, and she said she'd order me the 127 as a replacement for my birthday next week, rather than for christmas :thumbsupsmileyanim: It was clearly Allah's will that it get broken so I could have the replacement :D Something good coming from something bad :)

  4. Panerai

Special Editions - Luminor Marina Militare 1950 47mm PAM 00217

    1301

So the 00127 didn't make the list? I've noticed more and more young successful types wearing PAM's here in the states now. A couple of young lawyers in the same building as I wear them and they also have matching Aston Martin's so I would venture to say they are gen. I also watched this new TV show called "Life" about some cop sent to prison wrongfully so he got millions and was set free and he was driving a Bentley and wearing a PAM.

I trust Bently custom-fitted super comfy seats for him... :shutup2::pinch:

  5. Just a thought...and not levelling at the OP in particular

    But

Just how reasonable is it for a buyer with a string of customs seizures behind him, and whose adress is patently targetted by Customs, to expect suppliers to continue gteeing against (inevitable) seizures??

    .

Indeed, depending on the level of action taken, it's pretty much flogging a dead horse, and a waste of product and profit for the supplier. I think in situations like this, the suggestion of ordering things to a friend's address might be a good idea.

  6. My theme of 'movie watches', is partly down to the fact that I was a student of film studies (I'm technically, a qualified film maker  ) and my overall collecting passion is for TV/Movie memorabelia. I have a phaser rifle from Star Trek: First Contact, resin sculpts of the lightsabers used by Samuel L. Jackson and Liam Neeson, a replica of the jacket Tom Cruise wore in Minority Report, one of the hero swords from the Highlander TV series, one of Blade's swords, and assorted other nicknacks. My collection is nowhere near as extensive as some collectors, but I have a few nice pieces. For me, watches are a way of collecting something from movies which don't really have any 'collectable items'. Something I have been looking for for well over a decade, is the black and grey T-Shirt worn by Kurt Russell in Tango & Cash... A future project (probably within the year) will be to create a faux-front of an old British police phone box, just like the Doctor's TARDIS (I have four different replicas of the Sonic Screwdriver) which is to go over the front door of the narrow boat-sized 'shed' my fiance and I are converting to live in. It has greenary round the door, and my guinea pig hutches disguise the majority of the shed's structure, so if a TARDIS 'front' was placed infront of the door, it would have, at first glance, the impression of being larger on the inside than the outside :D

  7. You can always wear a rubber strap. My vanilla scented rubber on deployant from Angus gets a lot of wrist time!!! But that SS band is looking good to me. Now you have a 220/221 look.

That is the other option I am considering, as, although I'm getting more accustomed to the SS, I find straps more comfortable against the back of my hand than bracelets... I'm not too knowledgeable on PAM serial numbers, what would the 220/221 look like?

And a fiddy, but I doubt you could even find a SS band that big.

Indeed, I don't think they make them that big.

Nice 111 on SS bracelet :D

... but it's a strange looking 111h though. The movement looks more like pre-H series and the case is brush(?).

Thanks :) As mentioned above, I'm not too knowledgeable on the serial numbers, so I might be wrong... I'm sure the movement's not got the right bridges, and I'm not sure if the case should be brushed or not (although I do like that it has a brushed case and polished bezel and crownguard, as, on leather, it makes a nice contrast, and on SS, it blends with the 'theme' of the bracelet of polished over brushed :) The dial is a sandwich dial, with L Swiss L at the base.

What! TeeJay, no...this looks AWESOME on you. Take it from the Strap Queen!!

(Especially since the SQ is in bed, and won't be able to send you Me So Horny until at least next week...)

Oh I trust you that it looks good, I like how it looks, it just 'feels' like a new watch, rather than 'my watch' with a new bracelet... I'm still wearing the SS so I can try and get over that 'new watch' feeling :) No hurry on Me So Horny, get well soon :)

Love the SS bracelet dude, if you dont mind me asking were did you find that? I just got a 005 and want a SS band on it

    Thanks, PM sent :)

  8. How long does it normally take? I placed an order but never got any type of confirmation. Franky I'm afraid to call the man, he might yell "no soup for you!" and refund my money. :bangin: I'm assuming some of the parts may be on backorder. He's received so many orders for UPO's that he's bound to be low on stock.

That's why I never have

To be honest, the attitude that comes over on his site is not one I'm comfortable doing business with, so I never have. That said, others seem to be more than happy with him, so I guess it's just one of those things.

  9. One thing I never have seen is the relation of watch buying to other things that one may have in the home. When one purchases a TV or a Refrigerator (even a cell phone), they mull over the features of the product, their longevity, after-sales service options, advantages (or disadvantages) and then make a buying decision.

A watch is just as operative as a product like above, but it's sad to see that rarely anyone makes their watch purchases based solely on those factors.

Lanikai put it best when in Japan, appearances are everything. Well here in the States, it's much the same way too. I remember reading a story of one man who worked in a very large office building and passed by one of his colleagues, who wore a Cartier. The man writing the topic wore a Zenith Defy Extreme (bear in mind that his model went for $22K). They both engaged in a light conversation when he commented on her watch. She replied and raved about the watch and then commented on his. She then quickly debunked her comment by saying, "maybe when you earn as much as me, you can buy a Cartier."

A perfect example of how a name is unjust cause for ego.

Slightly off-topic, but with regard form and function, while I haven't so much mulled over the issue of function rather than form when buying a watch, it has been a huge consideration for what I wear on vacation in November, as it is international travel. At first, I was considering wearing a GMT watch, because I didn't want to have to re-set the watch on the plane, and then get all anal about it being bang on seconds accurate when it was re-set (for that reason, the other option was to set the watch ahead prior to travel, but that would then be awkard having to 'compensate' while in my native time zone) so the solution I've wound up with, is as the second sweep on a Panerai doesn't hack, that will be easy to jump forwards an hour without losing out the 'seconds accuracy'. Probably not a watch I would have chosen to wear on vacation, but, function has won out over form :D

  10. Wow, that doesn't look bad at all!! Maybe you just have to give it some time. I'm used to PAMs with leather straps, but since I'm seeing all these pics with SS bracelets these days it really starts growing on me and I'm considering buying a SS bracelet myself.

    Anyway, enjoy!

By the way, did you buy it from PT?

Thanks, indeed, it doesn't look bad at all. I have to admit, since I made the post, I've grown fonder of the bracelet, but, because it makes such a radical difference to the appearance, I feel more like I've got a new watch, rather than just fitting a new bracelet, that's what I meant when I said it doesn't feel like 'my watch' any more. Aesthetically, I love how it looks, and couldn't be happier with the quality and finish of the bracelet, especially as it blends with the watch so well, it just doesn't have the same 'emotional bond' that the leather strap had., but, given how quickly it's growing on me, who knows, by the end of the day, or tomorrow, once the initial 'new impact' wears off, maybe I'll feel like I'm wearing 'my watch' again :D

It wasn't from PT, but PM sent :)

I tend to prefer SS bands over leather. I'm looking at the 112h on SS from TWP as my next purchase. Leather to me is "ok I have to look nice, this dinner is important to her". Either way it's a stunning watch and now you go back and forth between both styles.

It's funny, I used to be a diehard SS fan, I guess it's just one of those things where tastes change with time. That said, I do think that there are certain watches which look better one way or the other. For example, I think the Omega SMP 2531.80 only really looks its best on the SS bracelet, and I only really think a Planet Ocean looks it's bets on the rubber strap.

I think PAMs are certainly versatile enough to pull off either look, I just think the tone of the watch changes drastically, so more likely to appeal to people on either extreme. I think my shock is, as mentioned above, that more that it looks and feels (emotionally, at least) like I have a new (different) watch to the one I had on earlier, when all that has changed, is the strap for a bracelet... At least I don't have to worry about it getting wet on vacation now :D

  11. Not at all, new people who want to become a part of the community are the type who contribute with knowledge and funds when needed.

New people who are just here for a quick fix usually wont even post.

    Ken

Absolutely so, but, the point I was illustrating, is that if people can't even see what the community has to offer (as with totally subscription only forums) then they are not likely to make a payment 'just to see if they like it'. Even adult 'subscription only' sites have a 'preview' section so a person can get an idea as to the content. I fully agree, some people do only come to ask 'who has the best sub?' and then vanish. I've had numerous PMs from people with zero post counts who asked where I got my SMPs, yet get no reply of thanks, nor see them then posting on the forums, so I appreciate that for those people, that's all they ever will do. That said, if people were to have to make subscriptions just to be able to view any information, then they're more likely to move on, and, as I said before, new people bring new ideas and other contributions, and people shouldn't be judged on the size of their financial contributions, as group closure is a very ugly thing.

  12. Well, the new bracelet arrived today, and, I have to admit, before it arrived, I did have some concerns about if it would need a bit of 'tweaking' to get between the lugs, but, it fitted perfectly the first time it was 'offered up' :1a:

One thing's for sure, it certainly changes the whole 'tone' of the watch, and to be honest, I'm not really 'feeling it'. I think I definitely prefer how the watch looks on leather rather than metal. That said, I bought the SS bracelet so I can wear the watch in the water on vacation, so from that point of view, it'll fit my requirements perfectly. On an aesthetic point of view, the brushed/polished details of the bracelet work perfectly with the brushed case/polished bezel and crown guard, so bearing that in mind, it all looks like one purchassed item, not just a watch with an aftermarket bracelet attached. (The bracelet was from the same dealer as the watch) Taking all that into consideration, I'm pleased with the fit (fits both the watch, and my wrist, like a glove), the quality and overall appearance, it just doesn't 'feel' like 'my watch' anymore (where on leather, I'm totally comfortable with it) so it might just take time to get used to it. I might put it back on the leather strap and keep the bracelet to the side for my vacation (as planned) but I think I'll give it till the end of the day to see if it grows on me before swapping back to the leather strap. Anyhoo, onto some photos :)

  13. I had no problem with t eh speed of delivery, just that the product was not as described. He was accomodating enough to offer replacement inserts, which I declined, as they would have been of equally unsatisfactory quality. All I asked, was that he remove the inaccurate statement "You won't be able to tell it from the original" from his listings. He chose not to do that, but to continue lying to people. <_<
