  1. I'll try and get a fresh wrist shot tomorrow, but I finally got my 2531.80 back from it's trip to the watchsmith The funny thing, is after all this time wearing the 2220.80, I am actually prefering that as a watch... I had been sent a replacement bezel insert, as the 2220.80 got a tiny nick in the '3' of the '30', but in the end, after comparing the two SMPs, I put the new insert into the 2531.80, as that had a more noticeable 'printing flaw' in the triangle marker, and the pearl was not as good. Having compared the two side by side, I can see why I prefer the 2220.80, as the greenish markers of the 2531.80 do not look as nice as the white markers of the 2220.80. However. The 2531.80 has larger markers, so easier to read at a glance. The 2220.80, with it's smaller markers (with the metal surrounds) comes across as a 'more refined version', so that's how the wear shall be. Everyday beater, 2531.80 (or 45mm Planet Ocean), smart watch, 2220.80 (until I build my White Seamaster as a total 'dress watch') I might even still order another bezel insert for the 2220.80 just to get it flawless again, although in all honesty, the nick in the marker is unnoticeable at a glance, and does add 'character' to the watch...
  2. I still haven't read this entire thread, although I have read every page of Edge's 29 page thread which is equally damning of the Cartel's behaviours. I've said before that I am totally against the behaviour of the Cartel, so saying so again would be an unnecessary repetition, and besides, thanks to Slay, I now have a nice sig that can do that for me. I just wanted to add something about product markups, and how they apply in the West which folks might have seen me mention previously, but just in case, here it is again: In a highstreet store called Burton, I bought a plain white sweater for
  3. Damn, that just sucks. I've always found Flav really helpfull with advice about my own projects. Whoever's pulled this crap is one sorry SoB. Having worked in the retail industry several years ago, I know first hand how unpleasant it is trying to deal with aggrevated customers. The guy who came up with the phrase "the customer is always right" wants to try working in the 21st Century and see how well his motto holds up to his home-spun values... In my experience, customers that ger really narky like this are often pathetic inadequates who couldn't afford the product in the first place, are hoping to get their money back by complaining about it, and are probably so beaten down in their lives, that their only outlet is sales staff who have to bite their tongues for fear of losing their jobs... It's a sad day when schmucks act like this, because it has knockon effects which then impact everyone. Very sorry state of affairs. Keep your chin up, Flav
  4. I guess it loses something in translation, but that certainly makes sense. There's no helping people who don't want to be helped... I wonder how long we'll be able to keep our sigs for
  5. One can always hope I learned German at school but I'm pretty rusty.... Could you translate?
  6. Ahh, that's fair enough. Nice one again to Slay for having the stones to create such a signature. Hopefully more people will read, take note, and maybe even act upon it
  7. In that case, I shall use my best spelling abilities Out of curiousity, is Edge actually banned from the forum, or did he simply leave because of what happened when he revealed further details of the Cartel's lies?
  8. Ahh, that's true, that's the problem with code... I'll see what I can do... Indeed, they certainly like to throw their weight around, I'll put something up and see what happens
  9. I like your style. Any chance you could PM me the contents of the sig (with tags) so I can display it as well? I wonder which of us Clive will start insulting first
  10. What does it matter who Slay's facored dealer is? Whoever they are, they are no doubt more trustworthy than your beloved Cartel dealers. Just because you are happy to tollerate the lies of the Cartel, don't expect everyone else to feel the same way. Infact, given how 'over the road', you mentioned having influence over contructions in China (I forget how you phrased it) your own support of them could be considered rather biassed... Maybe if more people had sigs and attitudes like Slay's, then the Cartel would take their over-priced watches elsewhere, as people would realize that they are simply not honest to deal with.
  11. From a visibility PoV, I totally agree with you. Infact, I was tempted to buy an LV Sub for my GMT Submariner project, as that would give a more visible dial, but, as I plan on using the 'left over' Submariner to convert to a Tudor, I didn't want the hassle of swapping the bezel insert for a black one
  12. Thanks, I'm glad it made enjoyable reading Ahh, no such detailing on mine. That said, if someone was thus inclined, they could probably have such details engraved into the ship... Ahh, now, I was looking at a gen sales site the other week, and the dial of the watch definitely looked silver, but as if it was actually metalic, rather than the strange off-white silveryish color of the one I have. But. This 'silver dial' VCO was labelled as a 'new release' or 'revamped'.... I forget the exact phrasing, but it indicated that it was the latest version of the watch, so, as with the differences between the Omega SMP 2531.80 and 2220.80, those details could be down to a redesign, which the available reps are not copies of. Take Submariners for example. Mine is a copy of a Y Series. Rolex are notorious for changing design details. Watches made in the first phase of the Y Series, have lug holes. The later phase of the Y Series has solid lugs. Both watches are correct, it is just a case of which specific version someone is looking at and comparing to. Try showing a 2531.80 and a 2220.80 to someone who knows nothing about watches, and they'll either, not notice the differences, or wonder why one is different to the other... If it's for you, then be prepared to spend the money on some extensive modifications... With regards the Sub, personally, I'd say it depended on the flaws and how noticeable they are I wouldn't buy a Sub which identified itself as a Bolex, but, I probably wouldn't mind buying a Sub with a Maxi Dial, as those are the kind of details that only a fellow watch enthusiast would notice. This was why I asked why the details were important to you. If it was for other people, chances are they wouldn't even notice, so it'd be a waste of time or money on having details corrected that in every day life, would simply never be noticed or discussed
  13. Best of luck with the project I'm planning on building a Submariner with GMT function in about a month when the parts arrive
  14. I forgot to say, if you're concerned about sand fouling the mechanism of the deployant clasp of an SMP, put it onto a rubber strap, or, a waterproof leather one... Before I totally killed my 2531.80 project watch, I put it on a rubber strap I bought to go on my 42mm Planet Ocean. Obviously the watch itself wasn't anything special, but, it looked 100% better than when it was on the factory SS Bracelet... Much more comfy too, although, not as easy to get under a shirt cuff...
  15. I'm not too sure how you'd get on with making the date work, but, in CQout, you can get Rolex Daytonas for about

I only have one white watch, don't particularly want that, but I do have plans to make a White Seamaster as a replacement. But. The GMT function will be more useful to my vacation to Spain in November, (and the watches will take about a month to arrive from this dealer) so I figured it would be better (and cheaper) to build the GMT Submariner first, and then save up to build the White Seamaster There are certainly some excellent deals available on CQout, and I've always been happy with the watches I received from buying there. The only watch I did have a problem with was a Panerai 111 with a non-existent power reserve, but I returned it to the dealer straight away (no quibble from him at all) and exchanged it for the black Omega Aqua Terra, which I customized and will be giving to my dad for his birthday next month (see named thread in Omega Area for a somewhat blurry pic of the modified watch) I've never worked on Rolexes before, but, given the nature of them, I'm guessing the parts from these two models will be essentially modular (I asked the dealer after I bought them, and she thought there wouldn't be a problem, and given I'd already bought the two, it wasn't as if she was saying that to try and get a sale...) Give it a month or so, and hopefully I'll have the watch finished
  17. In that case, I'd suggest getting an SMP like mine (that kind of price range) and taking it into a friendly watchsmith for independant pressure testing and waterproofing. I took my 2531.80 and 45mm Planet Ocean in for waterproofing, as the dealer said that they were likely only shower proof. My 2220.80 accidentally got submerged in a bath, but, as it didn't leak, I've gradually 'upped the tests', from long submersion in a bath, to paddling around in a pool, to extreme exertion against a wave machine, and it hasn't leaked at all. The only reason I suggest an SMP (other than my bias towards Omega) is that you mentioned evening wear, and the SMP is a watch which can handle evening wear.
  18. I'd be the first to admit that I haven't worn my 2220.80 SMP rep in the ocean, but, untested, it has survived several dips in the pool, including strenuous swimming against the current of a wave machine. No hint of leaks at all.
  19. I have two SMPs with Asian Movements, neither of which, were purchassed from 'trusted dealers'... SMP 2531.80 SMP 2220.80 Both were purchassed for under
  20. This arrived for me today as a replacement for the Panerai 111 I had with a non-existent power reserve. I'd planned on having one to modify for a while, but then thoughts that I wouldn't wear it, put it to the bottom of my 'to buy' list. The watch itself, is very nice, but the strap it was on is pretty trashy, with one of those square side button deployants. I'm planning on putting it on a dark brown buffalo strap, but put in on black calf-skin for now. I planned to modify the watch by swapping the hands for a set from my dead 42mm Planet Ocean, and that was done without any trouble with the fitting of the hands. However, once they were in place, and I was wiping down the dial, I noticed a white speck near the 2 marker, and realized that it was part of the 'Seamaster' printing, so I used some masking tape and removed that entire line of text to make it more uniform. Overall, I'd have to say this is a really nice watch, but it's not one I plan on keeping for myself, as I know I wouldn't wear it, so I'll be giving it to my dad for his birthday in september. I know it should have a black date wheel, but it came with a white one, and, while I could've probably swapped that over, I think my dad will find the white date wheel easier to read. Sorry for the poor photo, it was snapped quite quickly.

Ahahahahahahahahahaha I bought that watch today as well as a Submariner. Why would someone who's preference is for Omegas buy a Rolex, you may be asking? Well, that's because I am going to 'kit bash' the two watches into a Submariner with GMT function Watch this space in a month or so, and I'll post the finished result
  22. Further Update... Omega Seamaster Professional 2220.80 - Extended submersion in hot baths, no hint of fogging or leaking... Gone swimming with it twice (without pressure testing first) No heavy exertion, more a case of 'paddling about in the water', but still no hint of fogging or leaking
  23. I might be stating the obvious here, but why is the watchsmith not claiming on his insurance for the replacement costs? Sure, accidents happen, but that's why jewellers/watchsmiths have business insurance... You shouldn't have to pay a penny here... If you don't want to go down that route (ie he asks for a receipt of purchase or something) try getting a 14mm white leather strap for the watch, it'll look awesome
  24. Happy birthday V If you can guess what watch I'm wearing, I'll mail you my VCO for your dad
