  1. Big watches look good on big arms.

I agree, But the SD was too small for me...so I went with Panerai...Kinda bummed me out cuz there are alot of kewl 40mm/- watches....but they just dont look good on a 9" wrist :(

Nice SD I've been thinking about one myself. Does the HE valve look like the gen?

No, the HEV is wrong. :(

I dont get it, the thinner version SD has the correct looking HEV, the nice fat version has the wrong/fantasy HEV...

  2. I just checked out EL's Pam 165 pics. The watch looks like it has the right sized crown, and quite handsome hands too. Anyone know about this watch?

    1) what kind of movement?

    2) is the crown spring loaded? (cross fingers)

You should include pics, or link to pics....

If it is the same one that has been out for awhile, it is SS when it should be Ti...

SOme one posted some pics a few months back, do a search...aside from being SS, it does look good.

  3. Here are some quickie shot under normal light. Just for size comparison.

I sits big on the wrist due to the dial being so big. Looks way bigger than my 44mm PAMs even thought they are acually bigger.

Also I remember someone saying that both were numbered 117/3000 and that was not acurate for the platinum model. As you can see here the Platinum is numbered 117/500.

    Dont mind the boobie ;)

hmmm...i am thinking you should repost those pics.....but without the watches :whistling:

  4. no it was a white dial with black subdials, so it wasn't a 163. the whole shape of the watch was non-panerai. plus IIRC it was on some cheap looking bracelet.

yeah, I remember it being white w/black sub dials....dont remember if it was on a bracelet or a strap...I thought it looked Pam'ish though...but could be wrong...

I guess we will have to wait for premiumdesigners to post some screen'ies

  5. I was wondering the same thing. I know Lex wore 2 different watches. The first one was with the widow and it looked like a Frank Muller. The second one did look like a Pam...though I'm not sure.

the one i saw looked like a radomir chrono with white dial black sub dials...kinda like a panda...is there such a beast?

  6. Hi everyone, I am looking for a nice 22mm aligator strap for my IWC and/or other watches I own. Anyone know of any strap dealers selling quality gator straps for less than $100, possible <$70.

I am looking for something dressy and not the pam style types.

    Thanks

try HKtan....I think his gator is a tad more than $100....but you did say "quality".... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  7. I've been out of touch with the rep world, but what's new? I'm not asking about new models, but more rep "technology". Do the new rep Panerais have spring-loaded crowns and proper width? Are the movements better (lubricated properly and clean)?

I'm waiting for some exciting improvements before I purchase another rep.

Just go buy a gen :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  8. I stopped into Bailey Banks and Biddle, our local Omega AD today and as I walked past a display case with Omegas I saw an orange bezel Planet Ocean. As I stopped to admire it, I noticed the 7 o'clock marker had come unglued and was floating free around the dial LOL

Our reps really are like the gens :3a:

did you point it out? what did they say?

  9. Here is a typical noob question, from someone who has been around. I'm just not too big into Rolex, except for my MBW DRSD. I just bought a GMT from aspire E-shop, but am really looking for one with a Swiss ETA 2893-2 movement like the ones in the Panerai GMT's from about a year back. Does anyone have GMT's with the 2893-2 movement? If not who has the best 2836 model?

    thanks

it aint cheap. and I have no experience with this dealer....so YMMV, but.......it is what you asked for.

  10. So I'm sitting on a bench at Water Tower Place in Chicago awhile ago, drinking my coffee, reading the Trib and minding my own business, when a guido-ish trader type sits down at the table next to me. We give each other the "hey howya doin" guy-nod and I get back to my paper. I'm about half-way throught the sports section when I hear Guido go, "Hey, nice Sub," in reference to my Sub. I smile broadly and say, "thanks - it's two years older than I am," which usually gets a smile. This is where Guido springs his intricate, well-planned trap. He counters with "I would have guessed it was made in Shanghai two months ago." I was totally dumbfounded, and not a little [censored] at this slick Rick calling out a watch I've owned for over 15 years, a watch I bought from one of the most reliable watch dealers in the city, a watch that has been serviced by Rolex in Dallas, a watch I had serviced at Torneau but one week earlier, a fake.

And that's when it hit me. I told the guy "I'd like to show you something." He gets a little weary. "What?' I say "See that store over there? That's Tourneau." Come on in with me. I walk in, the sales associate greets me by name. The guy is starting to get a little pale. Take off my Sub and hand it to the sales guy. "Could you please explain to this gentleman that this watch is a genuine one? He looks at it for ten seconds and goes, "Of course it is, we just had it in here last week. 5512, made in the third quarter of 1961, pointed crown guards, 5xxxxxx series. 1560 movement. Beautiful watch."

I thank the sales guy, put the watch back on and start to walk past the Guido. But at the last second, to save face, he blurts out "Well, it didn't have metal rings around the hour markers." I just smiled politely and said, "If you think that's a dead giveaway for a fake Rolex, you may want to learn more about the subject matter," and walked the hell out. It's not often you can get to smack down a guy like that. I just walked off, smiling.

    thats awsome! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  11. However hard i try i just cant seem to stray from Panerai. My first purchase was my 111h and i will always love it! I then bought a 127 which again is just lurvly.

I thought i'd go for something different so bought the seamaster, lovely watch as always but just couldnt stop staring at my lovely PAMs.

I recently bought an FA Jones which i'd been drewling over for ages thinking this was the one that could tear me away from Panerai but AGAIN i am wrong. Dont get me wrong the IWC is a goreous watch and if me new job required i wear a suit then i would keep it!

Im selling the FA jones now just so that i can fund a 212 of Davidsen PVD :yu: ....i just CANT STRAY FROM PANERAI, and i just keep on trying. Maybe a Breitling Seawolf or Avenger will do the trick but first i must get that 212.

Anyone else have the same recurring problem.... :bangin:

    Eh?

whats this about a PVD 212? got a link?
