  1. I received this yeaterday and thought it was funny.

    ------------------------

    Canoe Race

A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (Ford) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.

Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing.

Feeling a deeper study was in order, American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion.

They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents, and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.

They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners, and free pens for the rower.

There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes, and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses.

The next year the Japanese won by two miles.

Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment.

The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next year's racing team was outsourced to India.

    Sadly, The End.

Here's something else to think about:

Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can't make money paying American wages. TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US. The last quarter's results:

TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.

Ford folks are still scratching their heads.

  2. Could be just technically bad picture. Red saturation is very common in the photos of white dial watches... it's usually noise/saturation from the photographer's hand.

That is very likely. Take a look at the SS bracelet and case....it also has a reddish tinge to it too....consistent with the white dial.

  3. I LOL'd... at the almost $600 price tag.

For a watch that has a 50% chance of being broken upon receipt, and lives the lifespan of an Asian 7750?

How do you all justify used gen pricing for a fake watch or two?

lol. A lot of truth in this. The review on the new AP ROO movement raised the question of its reliability due to the silver gear at 12. However, the latest 7750 has been reviewed to be as good as ETA.

  4. I think asking to have a closer look is offensive. Probably because you think or feel that it is not real....you gauge the person who wears it and size it up. I know a fellow at work who is a sales rep and wears a rep daytona and panerai. You can tell it is a rep on the daytona because the subdials are not lined up, they dont move except the large seconds hand. Same goes for the panerai...u can tell without a closer look that it is a rep. I did not call it as I did not want to embarass the person or mess up his fun. It was just fun for me to know that they were reps.

Oh and yes, a breitling super avenger on ss bracelet IS intimidating.

  5. they would, we have the money and they want it. they have watches we can get from other sorces. it's simple really.

It really is simple as that. In this forum and others, we scrutinize and tell the dealers what and how to improve the reps. They in turn, and we have seen this most recently, fix or update the reps. Is this free to do? Of course not.

Let us also not forget that we spend much more on modding - AR, DW, etc. The material and labor cost is on top of the rep cost and adding this together we see the that this can easily go near the $1K mark. If the dealer made all these mods and sold it close to $1K, I doubt that many would buy and there would be outcry.

Take a look at the new DW and double AR that now comes with the new reps. These gives one less reason to do anymore mods. Perhaps relume or cleaning would do.
