Sweet! Hopefully mine should arrive soon too..

Hi mate,
Did you buy an LF or a JF?
Because you're kind of mixing it up a bit? Or have I misunderstood it completely...

Looks great!
So far I think we have come to the conclusion that these are "MQ" dials but at 1/4 of the price. That will create some very interesting builds I'm prone to think...
I'm waiting for an exactly similar, but from dung_chrono in a couple of days...

If only there was a similar one for "modern" hands
If I've understood it correctly we have
MBW 5513/1665/1680 hands (NOS)
Clarks Tudor hands
TC 11610 11613
onlinestore.hk
Any other tips?

That guy is selling a lot of very sketchy stuff, CAVE..

Well done! Beautiful, and really resourceful with the Seiko mvmt!

Anyone?
So a "regular" crystal is 29.5 mm in the "mounting" part C. And 30.4 mm in the visible part A. I'm guessing the width of a gasket is about 0.45mm. Then we have the height E...
Since the double-domed sapphires aren't available with a lip, I guess the only option is getting one that is 29.5 (C) with a thickness (D) of 1 to 2 mm.
Should I use an I-formed nylon gasket or an L-formed? L-formed right? Then I can do:
How high is b? Because I don't want the sapphire to be "too" recessed, neither do I want it too high?

Please any tips?

I believe I have that same dial I was planning a very similar build, is it from dung via eBay? after looking at MQ site, some are seemingly identical.

Yeah it's from Dung. Accidentally paid overprice for it. Should have gotten it from tonnywatches for 250USD incl. S&H. After some discussion it seems that they have the same vietnamese supplier. Nice. Better than paying close to 1000USD from MQ?
11 hours ago, dbane883 said:Are you going to mod the MBW to be a PCG?
Yeah, I was planning it, since I was told that it was the only case that had a enough meat to be close to it.
8 hours ago, rolojack said:PCG case is slimmer than a RCG... You need to lathe the top and bottom. Better do that on a cheap cartel and keep your 5512 for a different project.
I am aware of the fact that it won't be 100%. On the other hand, as soon as one will see that dial and the TC-hands, for a vintage-Rolex fan, it should be pretty obvious that it's a replica. So, considering stuff like case thickness, rubber ring under the bezel, etc, it's "good enough for me".

So, with the influx of NOS MBW-watches I'm thinking that a separate thread for my build might be appropriate.
Base:
- MBW 5512/5513 case w/ movement; 400 USD
- Superdome Clarks T19; 17 USD- Ended up using a Sternkreutz x-tal instead 30 USD?
- Athaya acrylic pearl; 10 USD

- MQ-ish 5512 gilt chapter dial; aprox 250 USD
- Custom bracelet using solid-link cartel links + Noob v3 glidelock + WSO 580 end links. Aprox 150-200 USD incl. labour

So let's do a little necro-bump.

There are several ebay sellers that have access to the same supplier I think..
I found another one (through some detective work), sells gilt dials incl. hands and shipping for 230USD.

So this Tonnywatches is a big mysterium...
Better buy some dials before he becomes greedy I hope!

Sweet!
Looks really beautiful!
Any indications on price? What is their usual target "population"?

Thanks for the info. That's interesting to know about the pearls. I was more looking at a budget build though. Wondering if there are any glaring issues on the MBK that are an easy fix (not talking about CG or case reshaping just yet). Should I be worried about the crown, maybe change it for an Athaya? How about the crystal, should I go with a Clarks? Also, what is the most popular insert besides gen currently? I was reading a bunch about pmwf.com inserts but that site seems to no longer be active. Would a WSO insert be any better then the stock MBW?
I also see Otto Frei sells a generic insert with the pearl included referencing the 5513. It's only $10 more then the pearl itself. Would that be worthwhile?
While you buy an Athaya Crown, pick up some acrylic pearls from him too.. They're worth the ridiculously low price he charges.

Just wanted to inform that I have 2 brand new modded ones (beatifuly brushed) FS in the "parts" subforum. I can even mount them on some vintage leather NATO's if there is any interest.
-
Gotcha. It is truly a special watch but overpriced IMO....
You don't mind asking PBdad which crystal and gasket he ended up using?

Which would be best for a PCG gilt chapter ring 5512/5513?
Also, what movements do these normally contain? Low-beat ETA's?
what is your feeling on microbrands?

Some are awesome, some are way overpriced.
