This ones from Homer. Mods include:- CG's done, Gen crown and tube, Gen pearl and insert, New hands fitted, Case lugs shaped and aged the case, aged the case back, tightened bezel, fitted gen NATO strap, fitted new domed crystal. Oooooow doesn't she look lovely
-
Don't forget to trim those CG's to get it more vintage looking. Nice work Randy. Is the date font correct for a vintage? I don't remember seeing serifs before?

If there isn't a gap and the crown fits right up against the watch case then the seal inside the top of the crown itself (on a triplock) will not be effective. Think about it. Most vintage 1665's and 1680's have them also.
-
Look at a lot of photos of genuine vintage Rolex's and most of them have a gap where the crown meets the case. If you don't have some gap you have done it wrong.

Valjoux72 engraved "Rolex" Aftermarket bridges
Sherrington replied to the collector's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
No I disagree with you there. Modded MBW's especially vintage ones particularly with an OEM dial are virtually impossible to tell from the real deal if done properly. Unless.....you take off the back or handle the watch. On the wrist its really difficult. But why go to the trouble of repping something that can't be seen? Go that far and you may as well fit a gen movement or buy a gen watch and be done with it. -

Getting 2 V72's is easy if you are prepared to pay the stupid prices they go for. Just buy a watch off Ebay with one in and take it out. It's easy. But be prepared to pay those crazzzzzzzzzzzy prices. And who are you really kidding? A Daytona expert will spot the fake a mile off as it's not just the bridge that makes the movement. -
Try www.timeman.net he has some nice refinished dials or go with www.classicwatchparts.com.

Randy is right. The DW tubes come out easily and you don't need a special tool. Just stick a small rat tailed file in and just turn!! Also with my DW I did run the correct size tap down the threads and the Cousins one just fits right in. I also countersunk the hole slightly to take the taper on the new crown tube so it sits further into the hole and put loctite on the thread.

I have bought the exact same bracelet from the same source. I must say I didn't realise it was Homer or I would have asked for a discount!!!! Anyhow for the money this is the best and most authentic folded link rivetted bracelet I have seen. However when I fitted my to my 1665 the top link of the bracelet is wider than 20mm and consequently the rivet heads catch on the inside of the watch case lugs. Also the number is incorrect (1635. It would be nice if 7206!!). So I removed the top link, and the second link becomes the top link. At 19mm (not accounting for the rivet heads) this is much closer to the original rivetted link bracelets. Take a look in "Vintage Sports Rolex" and you will see. Now it looks visually perfect but removing the top links are not easy until you figure out how they go together and even then it's quite fiddly. All in all a well made authentic looking bracelet at a good price. And Nanuq I did give you the source in the previous thread on 5517 straps.

Good luck, let us know how you get on. Just be careful the retaining ring is far enough down on the gasket to securely clamp the crystal in place as it's this that gives it waterproofness around the crystal.
-
The retaining ring on my MBW 1680 and MBW DRSD sits flush with the case as there are no gaskets fitted underneath the ring. Even sitting flush the bezel clicks on on both watches without any problems. I suspect as Randy does that maybe the bezel ring is slightly to big internally. Even without the tension washer the bezel ring should click on and STAY THERE. The tension washer only provides friction to stop the bezel spinning freely. I don't think I would press the retaining ring down only part way as you may loose the bezel ring and crystal if it's not on tight enough. BTW when I received my DRSD the bezel insert wasn't the correct size and only glued on badly. I changed mine for a gen.

Best rivetted braclet I have seen is this one Ebay bracelet Although the correct strap is a Nato and there are some really nice black and olive green ones out there which are more realistic than a S/S bracelet. I also wonder how you managed to fit a end link to fixed strap bars!!!! -
Serial numbers don't really bother me as you have to remove the bracelets (on Rolex's) to see the number anyhow. If someone goes to the trouble to remove the bracelet then they would also remove the back and see FAKE. I think a number in the ball park would be OK for me although I would be more bothered about numbers which are visual such as bracelet numbers and end link numbers. Or is that just me being picky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hey Bob. That's in mint condition for one of your watches. Have you not aged it yet?
-
I agree also. Silicon based lubricant won't irritate your wrist like some other oils can.
-
Well mine is Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ones Andy were selling are genuine Rolex superdomes, so you have bought the best.
-
Yes I got one too. Just fitted to my modded MBW 1665 will take some piccies and post soooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back Tommy. You have surely been missed. Nice to have you back mate. Condolences over your mother.
