  1. Think we're on the same wavelength rolexsandwich - I've used that very same tactic, they all cost
  2. Thanks for the great review, but it's gonna get me in trouble...........like many others, I've been aware of this watch and decided, a month or two back, to follow the clues as to where to source one from. I found out, then made the mistake of mentioning to my wife that I was planning this purchase, and (even more stupidly) told her the price Well, this review has fanned the flames, and I'm going to need all my cunning and guile to present a convincing argument to my wife. Maybe someone could start a review of the best stories for persuading your OH that, this time, you really do need to buy this watch prof
  3. Yup, another one here, guilty as charged.........I'm sat here reading this post and nodding, and smiling, then very nearly went onto the next tab! It's a bad habit, I know, but I'll post my thoughts on all that I read in future, rather than just listening to the voices in my head For the record, it can, occasionally, be slighlty intimidating as a 'noob' to post a response, not that I'm concerned at being shot down for my understanding or opinion, but more that I still feel that I'm on a very steep learning curve and therefore quite content to watch the discussion unfold amongst the more senior members, whilst I read and learn. I could compare it to sitting in on your first meeting at a new company, and listening to your colleagues discussing a large scale project that you've only just been briefed on, except that here there are so many diverse projects that it's taking time to absorb the base knowledge. However, I will endeavour to post my thoughts in future, mainly to thank all those whose excellent reviews (BT, Pug, Euno, Ubi, etc.) have informed my buying decisions thus far. prof
  4. Wow, what a great selection this weekend! This weekend I will be mostly wearing my 111h vintage cracked strap courtesy of Aaron @vbarrett - that HBB is awesome, I can see one on my wife's wrist soon...........if I can track one down.
  5. Rocket - I've been loking to buy a Santos 100 for some time, guess this is a good excuse to get one now! Please count me in. prof
  6. I'd definitely be interested for my UPO - when do I need to send the crystal? prof
  7. Hmmm, so I take it's true then that the French government was rumoured yesterday to have raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France being "Surrender" and "Collaborate.", and that the rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability??? Here all week....
  8. I'd have to say that brand is not really the motivator for me at the moment, as I've found that I simply prefer the 'look' of larger >42mm watches. Admittedly that was driven by my 1st purchase, a 111H , and then reinforced by a UPO, and more recently an FA Jones. I dipped my toes in the vintage Rollie world with a DRSD, but despite it being an extremely pleasing watch, design-wise, it just looked wrong on my wrist, so it was recently sold. If the rep makers could produce a fantasty large sized DRSD, say 44/45mm, I'd be tempted..............I think the design would benefit from a slight increase in scale. (I'm sure I'll be shot to pieces for such a suggestion) Having said all that, brand is still a factor, and there are some brands that I (probably) wouldn't buy, based on my own perception of them, which is composed of such variables as material (not a gold fan), brand integrity (are they just 'fashion' driven, or do they innovate?), and embellishment/decoration (no diamonds, toys, useless funcitons, etc,). I'd have to say that Breitling, until recently, were in that camp, as I considered most of their range a bit too 'bling'.........but I am sorely tempted by a Navtimer, particularly on a leather strap I'll have to stop there, as I feel that I'm apt to ramble off at a tangent if I continue. I'm supposed to be working, goddamit, but keep switching screens to RWG, and writing this post , so it's suffering from continuity....... prof
  9. Hi Tom, It's a K Wong strap, made from the soft (pigskin?/calf?) leather that is usually found on the inside of some straps, and the orange stitching is just the closest match he had. The strap was originally made for Rolli, but I bought it from him a couple of months back and then got K Wong to make me a new long piece, as the 115mm length was too short for me. I did enquire about a complete new strap, and that would have been $70, plus shipping, but, as he's based in Chicago, this should be cheaper and quicker for you It's 4mm thick and super soft, currently my daily beater
  10. Two from me, first on steel, but now on leather......
  11. Hmm...I'm afraid I'll have to second that..........tan strap looks wrong with that buckle, not too sure about the black one either, both look like nice straps though, especially the tan one once it's aged a bit; personally think that buckle only really suits the submersibles, based as it is on the 'form follows function' school of design, which I like. Having said that, next watch on my list is a Slytech.........to which I plan to fit a horned gator strap and tang buckle.......... prof
