I happen to think the DSN parts aren't bad, but I am biased. I just completed the transplant of the new 177H dial into my stock cartel rep. Firs the 177H fresh from the factory, even with rep strap. Then the 177H after dial, cannon pin fix, DSN crown, and superlumed hands: I think that the L SWISS placement is decent on the new DSN dial, and the cross bar in the As are a little higher compared to before. The korean top dial seems to be too bold in the LUMINOR etc... to me at least

Thanks for the compliments! Thx The ZigmeisterZumba-- in the words of Michael Meyers, "we're not worthy!" I could go a step further and save a lot more trouble by getting all the parts from DSN at once, and letting him put them together and send me a finished watch. I would have saved about $100 and about 3 months of waiting, but hey, where's the fun in that? The 7750 did not enjoy being pulled apart repeatedly... But on the plus side, I now have a better understanding of the 7750 engine sans the chrono modules. It's a lot simpler without all that extra junk.

Just thought I'd share some pictures of this project First the original watch as it arrived from River, with a missing minute tick at 9 pm but otherwise pretty nice for stock: Principle flaws being the dial, the crownguard pin, the relatively thin datefont and weaker cyclops, and the misproportioned minute hand and GMT hand Then after a new updated dial from Andrew and a lello datewheel: Notice that the 6 mm date bubble is insufficient to bring out the potential of the lello datewheel Then after a filing down of the crownguard pin: These fixes seemed to make the other flaws (oversize GMT hand, smallish minute hand) stand out more than even before. Murphy's law of rep modding I guess. So the saga continues: Then after a replacement with DSN's superlumed updated 089 hand set, and single AR'd sapphire with 7 mm cyclops: The date bubble on DSN's crystal helps bring out lello's DW better, and reduces the poor visibility due to sunken datewheel from GMT mod. Finally I have a GMT hand that does not look like clown shoes! And of course the gen for comparison: My crown is 2mm on this stock rep, luckily, so I don't think I will be replacing it, and otherwise I think this is the end of the line for this watch. The sunken date wheel is noticeable but much better with DSN's cyclops and beautiful crystal. His hands are better than previous issues, and in fairness, I have seen some gen PAM 7750 based GMT watches with hands more similar to his than the squared off minute hand base of this particular gen. So I am calling this a 97.5% rep, at least when viewed straight on. I don't think I'll go with DSN's dial as the stock from Andrew and others is currently not that bad...

RG The UN looks unreal, I'm going to have to check those out at the AD next chance I get. A beauty Pirvan I like that DeWitt. I want one, do you think the RG would be pretty solid if I wore it frequently?

Awaiting more parts from DSN, but still haven't been able to get this off the wrist I know this watch is so last year but I still like it...

PAM 048 Seriously debating the 250... So many choices

@Dave, I think all of those GMTs make good projects, but really if you're a perfectionist you'll want to get the 29 or 63 in a 2893 and mod from there up. Better results on the datewheel after putting in a lello, but expensive as all heck these days. the 7750 based GMT reps such as the 088 and 089 are good projects but for some reason the datwheel must remain recessed on those models. So the angle for viewing the date is a bit more limited than if the datewheel ran closer to the dial. Nonetheless I liked the anthracite dial on the 089 both in terms of the quality of the anthracite finish (very close to gen) and the dial markings. The hands are a bit off, especially the minute hand and the size of the arrow on the GMT hand, and I still haven't addressed the crown thickness yet. Also, I think the gen second subdial may be a little more contrasting than what is seen on the rep.

Finally got out the tools to do the job and got down to business. Is this what you had in mind?

Back from the dead (using other dead 7750s for parts) recently. Had stopped running only a week after receiving it a year ago. Delayed gratification, but worth the wait. Old news to repiristis but like new to me today.

Thanks! Re: the CG lever pin, I didn't think that would make such a big difference but it does stand out now that you mention it. a simple enough detail to fix, and a satisfying 1 hr project.

Lello, This was a very interesting topic for me as well, esp. since I have had some travails with the 7750, which got much better after your help (see below) but the recessed date was still a nuisance. I'm wondering if you had any luck with your printing of the 250 dial? It is much too bad that the a7750b 250 dial does not fit upon the 7753 movement. After careful study of the gen 250, I have basically concluded that the 7753 bezel, 7750 case and caseback, 7750 dial, and your datewheel would make for a watch that is functionally and cosmetically indistinguishable from the gen. This situation has been so frustrating that I have contemplated just getting te 250 at the dealer. But I just can't get myself to do it because I feel that at $8000 it is far too overpriced, and the $8750 that they will be asking or so after the price increase is just immoral. I rue the day that I had an opportunity to pick one of these up at $6500 just 2 years ago. It is a beautiful watch, but the gen does not feel better made than the a7750b, strangely. If not for the sunken date this watch would be also very hard to distinguish, apart from the quickset date functionality and the slightly different bezel. I cannot justify the $$$ for the gen when 7753 watches from other marques are so much cheaper. For that kind of money I'd like to have an in house movement. A final note: Is it quite impossible to retrofit the 7750 dial onto a 7753 movement? Are the casback posts incompatible, or are the subdials entirely different in spacing, or is the date aperture off alignment... Or all of the above? The quality of the 7753 rep dial leaves much to be desired, I can't spend the $$$ on the 7753 without some dial upgrade option.

Lello's datewheels are awesome. I changed this out over the weekend. Took some cojones but it was worth it. Sorry about the crappy camera phone pics-- honestly they don't do justice to the change in appearance. I should have taken a photo with the date at 26, which looks fatter and more impressive than the teens. That's what Panerai does in their ads. I was able to get through this install with the help of pugwash's guide to datewheel replacement on the IWC chrono a7750. The a7750b used in the PAM daylights is a bit different because of the extra gears to drive the 3 o'clock chrono minute hand. Getting through that area without losing parts or breaking anything was perhaps the most difficult part of the install. If there is interest I can post a pictorial when I attempt to repeat this with a PAM 196 a7750b. Thanks lello! pre-lello DW post-lello DW

I've asked LELLO about a fix for the asian 21J datewheels in some of the PAMs with 3 o'clock dates. He said he could print over the existing datewheels and make the "cliche" if there were sufficient interest, about 10 people minimum. If there is sufficient interest, I can fix this puppy which I like, but would like even more with a better date font:

It's clearly an asian 7750. That datewheel is sunk just as far as mine (PAM 250 Daylight asian 7750). The modest decoration on the rotor is identical to what appears on my asian 7750. Its 28,800 bpm but the sunken date is a giveaway. Crown and CG are not quite right for this model. Needs thicker crown, and CG is not correct proportion. The number markers on the seconds subdial (3 o'clock) are in a font that is way too tiny (look at the gen). Not even close!
