  1. True I guess but I don't think I'd get every Chinese movement watch I own serviced...
  2. So, I felt that my PAM 112h series was in need of a service. It was starting to feel a bit 'grindy' whilst winding and I want this one to be a keeper. I was initially intending to try and get it done within the UK but when it became apparent that this would not be possible I got in touch with the Zigmeister. To cut a long story short I got the service done, and it now winds super smooth! I also however got it super lumed and boy, it is superb. Have a look at my shyte photographic skills which don't do it justice at all to be honest... Now, the watch only cost me $100 from Silix during the group buy which took place almost exactly this time last year. So, why in god's name would I spend the same (not quite, but almost including postage etc...) when I could get a new watch? This question has been asked a few times recently. Why would you want to spend more on your watch than it is actually worth. Well, for me, this watch has sentimental reasons. Not because it was my first PAM. Because it was delivered on the day that my daughter was born! It's a wonderful reminder of those times. All the best... and thanks The Zigmeister, you are the man, great and easy to do business with, and great results.
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I remember this time last year, as I'm sure many of you do. The Winter was a disappointing, sad time. RWG1 was going down the pan, although no one told Santa. Then the famous five, or sensational seven, or maybe the fantabulous fourteen (not sure exactly how many of you were involved) took it upon themselves to step up to the plate and create this wonderful place. It sounds a bit sad but I will never forget the excitement of when this place launched and I still can't believe that you guys (you know who you are) managed to do what you did. The icing on the cake - I got to be member no. 69! Count me in for the celebrations!
  4. Ha! Excellent comment, one of the best in fact!!! Welcome back Mark, hope the next couple of months fly by for you.
  5. Hmmm, I'm in the UK and just waiting to get my PAM 112h back from The Zigmeister who is in... Novia Scotia!! It's been for a lume and a full service and really excited at the though of it being delivered any day now. Apart from the postage costs the prices are pretty good. Oh, and it only cost me £1.82 to send it there, return postage is $10 (about £5) so not bad at all... Wouldn't be that much less to send them in the UK...
  6. Thanks Guys! Really, I'm not particularly gifted when it comes to this sort of stuff but it is satisfying, and not that hard. Worth bearing in mind that this really is down the lower end of the scale of watch repairs in terms of complexity but still, I'm pleased with the work I've done, I've saved myself some money and I'm once again wearing my PO!!!!
  7. I had a fallen hour marker on my 4th gen PO. Apparently this is a common problem with this piece and eventually after receiving much good advice from The Zigmeister, Finepics and Edges tutorial I decided to take the plunge and try it myself. It went well although I only started taking pictures once the hour marker had been stuck back on. I guess I've learned that I'm capable of taking the movement out of a watch and changing the crown, crown tube, dial, hands etc is all within reach! I would never dream of playing around with the movement itself but I'm really pleased that I've taken this small step!!! Here are all the parts layed out... And here it is with the movement back in the case In goes the crown... The 'o' ring... And finally all done... The hardest bit was getting the bracelet back on to be honest! Anyway, the point of this post is really to say that I will be contemplating some mods in the future, all you've got to do is take the 1st step. And if I can do it, ANYONE can!!!!! Good luck!!
  8. Excellent work as always The Zigmeister. It's amazing how something like this can suddenly make one appreciate a watch I personally have never particularly liked that much until now.
  9. Well, guess what... It didn't work!!! I took it apart again, scratched up the parts I need to glue together and have tried again... I think I'll wait a bit longer this timebefore testing again...
  10. Well, it's glued back. Just got to allow it to set for some time now I guess. Didn't f*ck anything up just yet either!! Will report back in a few hours as to whether or not this has been time well spent!
  11. Thanks The Zigmeister, that's extremely helpful, thank you very much. Regarding watch paper - can I use anything else here? I suspect I won't be able to get any locally. And regarding the use of epoxy, can I use the JB Weld I have coming for the SMP bracelet fix? Again, many thanks for your help. dcrooz
  12. Guys, here's a picture of the movement - can anyone enlighten me - it doesn't have ETA markers on it... Anyway, the red line on the pic - is this where I have to press down to remove the stem? Should the stem be fully unscrewed and extended before doing this? Also, when replacing the stem, should I just push it back in to place (carefully of course)? Many thanks
  13. Can I use JB Weld? I'm getting some for a different job...
  14. Hey Guys, I have a 4th gen PO and one of the hour markers has fallen away from its spot. I was going to send it to The Zigmeister but I guess maybe I should give it a go myself (The Zigmeister, you'll still get the PAM!!). I just have a feeling that it will be satisfying to try this myself, although I could of course completely [censored] up a very nice watch... I've read Edge's tutorial (pinned above), how much does this method vary for an ETA 2824-2? Dis-assembling and re-assembling are the bits I'm most concerned about. Should I even be contemplating this or is it just beginners nerves? I've gathered (thanks to Finepics in a previous thread) that the best way to pick up the hour marker would be with some bluetac on the end of a tooth pick, then a tiny spot of superglue on the hour place before replacing the marker will work. I know I have to cover the dial (what with? would an upturned glass work??) leave it dry for some time (18 hrs??) and then reassemble. Anyway, I'm hoping that some of you fine members will be able to throw some advice my way before I commit to this minor (though major for me!) project. Many thanks in advance for your comments and words of wisdom. dcrooz
  15. Let's hope so! Just bought some jb weld on ebay - should be here in a couple of days and then we'll see. Looking forward to it to be honest, hopefully won't [censored] it up, although there's not too much to f*ck up to be honest! Cheers,
  16. Thanks The Zigmeister, I've looked it up on google and think I can get some locally. When you say 'mix the glue' is that the glue and the hardener I have to mix? I'm sure it will come with instructions so don't worry if you don't have time to respond. Well, I will be giving this a go maybe a bit later on - and it will have saved me $44 for the bracelet + $28 shipping - $10 for the JB Weld - so a saving of $62 to go towards servicing and luming by your good self!! Cheers!
  17. Thanks The Zigmeister and Usil. I've never used either structural epoxy or JB Weld - would you know where I could get some, how much it costs and how difficult the actual job is? Many thanks
  18. Hi everyone, hoping some one can offer me some advice. The part that helps lock the bracelet on my SMP has come off and it won't stay put any longer. I don't know how to describe it better so I'll just show some pics instead... This is how it should look... But this is how it is... The question is can I fix it or do I just need a new bracelet? Many thanks!
  19. That story about the Rolex being dumped in the sea was hilarious - I remember that from quite a while ago! Anyway, I think that the only point about the original post is to try to be a bit honest with one's spouse. I would never pretend to my wife that a rep was a gen - I may sometimes shave a few dollars off what I actually paid but that's another story.... !!
  20. Did anyone attempt this? I've been trying to get hold of Finepics but to no avail unfortunately. Mark, if you see this please give me a sign ) Getting withdrawal symptoms for my PO!!!
  21. Hey PK, nice choice of watches - out of interest, how's the lume on the Explorer? And welcome, it is indeed nice to have another person from the UK here!!
  22. Gees, I'm constantly checking out people's wrists. I've been caught out a few times but usually people are oblivious to it. On a similar note, once you've spotted a nice watch, how many of you subtlelypull up the cuffs on your shirt/jacket/coat/jumper to see if anyone notices what you're wearing?!!
  23. Hey, welcome to this wonderful place. Look up TTK's (aka Neil) selection in the dealer area. He tends to get different stock in at different times but the noobmariner makes plenty of return visits. He may be reluctant to sell to newbies from time to time as I believe he has had a bit of hassle in the past. However, if you read his ordering instructions, follow them to the letter he can only say no! There are other dealers in the dealer section who also carry low priced Sub's - might be worth checking out. Good luck!
  24. I know, I know but I thought you had retired for a wee while and didn't want to impose on you! PM sent!
