  1. Bush's killing machine has killed hundreds of thousands, in less than half the time. That's progress for you.
  2. Glad to see that you discovered the "no grain" option... Clive, wearing a Pam 029 with smooth, black, ever-so-slightly glossy, goatskin strap
  3. Yes, of course... but in a "proper" GMT, the fourth hand says steady while the main hands are moved. In theory, this enables you to cange the main hands to local time, whilst leaving "home time" where it is. In reality, few of us spend so much travelling to make this a worthwhile complication.... I travel a bit. China, Japan, Taiwan, etc, perhaps three times a year. I find a GMT watch really useful. I keep the fourth hand on China time when I am in the UK. When I'm travelling, I ajust the main hands to local time, and the fourth hand to UK time. OK... its a bit of a fiddle. But it is a 12 hour flight from Heathrow to Hong Kong... 12 very boring hours. I need somethin to occupy my mind. Ajusting a real GMT would take a matter of seconds. (Although I would stil have to fiddle around, for a minute or two, changing the fourth hand to home time) Ajusting my "improper" GMT replica watch wastes four or five minutes.... Sometimes I fill up the flight time by taking two watches with me.
  4. Bhagdad morgue reports 6000 corpses so far this year. Does not comment on how many may be lying in ditches. Amnesty International reports on secret US "Extrodinary Rendition" torture camps in eastern Europe. 250 UK police mobilised in a dawn raid to arrest two - yes, just two - suspected terrorists. So far, unable to find any evidence against them. Nevertheless, one of the suspects was shot. "Hey, guys... while we are here we may as well use some of this fancy armament..." All this, for a tank of gas. Hang your head in shame. The world was a lot more secure when Sadam was running Iraq. [censored]. Iraq was a lot more secure when Sadam was running the place.
  5. Some wonderful things have come out of Leeds Puggy's Mum... The M1 to London...
  6. Mediator? Booze talks :-) But I do note that my old friend Willith is listed as a Moderator on both RWG1 and RWG2, Damn. Carpel tunnel syndrome.. here I come :-) Happy timekeeping! Clive
  7. Its a gift. Have you ever been to Leeds? Then you will understand.
  8. Oh God! Not Leeds, surely?
  9. I am amazed that Joe had so many customers. Personally, I would never entrust a watch to anyone who did not have English as their mother tongue. I'd be too worried that communication might be a problem. Oh. [censored]. That rules out The Zigmeister, too... I take back all I said.
  10. How about pinning a list of the top 100 "Questions that we are bored shitless by..." On the other hand, passing on knowlege is not a bad thing.
  11. ... and be quick about it!
  12. I have been drooling over pics of the 212 all evening... but, as usual, I'm confused. The "reg T.M" on the reps looks a little oversized. Not that you would notice on an actual watch. Highly enlarged pics are a double-edged sword... But - the pic on Paneristi shows a CG without the Reg T.M." engraving: The Panerai site shows engraved an engraved CG: So - are both correct? I note that Joshua offers both models, albeit with different movements. And - talking about new pannies... when are we going to see a replica of this? Tux dial... rose gold case... and it's a GMT! Come to daddy...
  13. Whatever... the link to the Dark Side doesn't work. So perhaps we shall never know.
  14. Fine. I would need at least a dozen. So, I will continue to choose the watch that I will wear today... set it... and enjoy it. Damn sight cheaper that buying a dozen winders :-)
  15. Wow! A GMT Presidential! I didn't know they made one of those...
  16. Damn you, Sir. Old? I'm merely middle-aged.
  17. The Zigmeister advises that you should not wind basic Chnese autos - just give them a gentle shake and strap them on. He said that winding ETAs is OK - but why would you want to?
  18. Acording to the ETA "Technical communication", (Oiling diagram and parts list) the running time on the 6497-2 and 6498-2 movements is 56 hours. I haven't tested this ... but I do know that giving it a full wind from cold takes a dog's age. That is one looooong mainspring. Watcher... have you had time to time the running time? If you did have time to time the running time from time to time what did you time the running time with, this time?
  19. If you are planning to start early, there should not be a problem. But, you could call, if you want. They won't ever have had anyone calling to book a table in a pub before... should freak them out completely... especially if you lay the Austrian accent on, good and thick. "My hovercraft, is full of eels..."
