  1. Would it really have been so hard to have checked out the IWC website before asking that question? Platinum = silver hands, black numerals Steel = Blue hands. black numerals. Rose Gold = RG hands and RG numerals Here's the data: Glass: sapphire, convex, antireflective - Back: sapphire glass back - Water-resistant: 3 bar (30 m) - Case diameter: 43 mm - Case height: 11.7 mm - Weight: Portuguese F.A. Jones in platinum with crocodile leather strap: 116 g Portuguese F.A. Jones in 18 ct. rose gold and crocodile leather strap: 101 g Portuguese F.A. Jones in stainless steel with crocodile leather strap: 80 g I can cope with mineral glass - if it is flat. But, for me, a convex crystal demands synthetic sapphire. I'll be waiting for a RG version - with sapphire. That would be so nice.
  2. If you live somewhere whe you cannot rely on getting a sunny day, pull out the crown, then place the watch, crown uppermost in your boiler-room or airing cupboard. This will fix the problem for now.... but the problem will return, next time you splash the watch, or even experience a humid day. So take the watch to a repairman and get him to grease the seals.
  3. What's the difference between BSE and PMT? [censored] all.
  4. Jos Nana lists a Pam 113. Here's a link: http://perfect-clones.com/product_info.php...products_id=813 Happy timekeeping! Clive
  5. I feel your pain! Hope that you can get this sorted... I rather like Nanuq's "sewing pin" fix.... it would certainly do the job until you can find a replacement screw.
  6. Ken - a link to the POM would have been nice. (The search button is for newbies ) Edge - Congratulations! I missed your post... but look forward to reading it in due course. Happy timekeeping! Clive
  7. Mine seems to be a tough as old boots - no sign of any wear, anywhere
  8. Great idea! $27 for the watch box. Brilliant value Add $116 for shipping it to England. Then think about it for a while. A very short while... We have all had to make more difficult decisions than this
  9. Reps are available with genuine 6947-2 movements... and with Asian copies of this movement, Experts have declared that the Asian copy is a bloody good movement. Honest dealers will specify if their watch has a Swiss or Asian movement. The Asian costs less than the Swiss... but lacks the pedigree Your call...
  10. If you could see me you would understand that I am closer to horrible than Hannibal. Don't tell El Laz. He thinks I'm scary
  11. Had your PM box not been full / disabled I could have told you. But now... you'll just have to wait and see
  12. Cigar? Are you mad? Oh dear... check the siggy, Chronus... your mate HFC is an invererate pipesmoker. And don't you forget it. Or I'll prod you with a pipe-stem. And scatter ash on your carpet.
  13. Willith - as always, we are in complete agreement. The 194 is a much more attractive, much more sensible watch. I mean, who really needs a stopwatch on their wrist? Just posing. However, if it had a useful complication... like a GMT hand... then it would become really desirable. Arktos GMT, anyone?
  14. Chronus.. you are way too fussy. Although I respect your right to be so... :-) Only 30 of these were ever made. I think that is the right number... something like that, anyway. So nobody that you will ever meet is likely know the difference. And the originals were insanely expensive... which further limits the number of folk who could call you out on this. In fact, you are much more likely to be complimented for wearing a Jos Nana rep, than of wearing a fake Panerai. Jos has sold lots more of these than Panerai ever did. Never mind the incorrect subs... the real deal was a split-second chrono. That is the biggest difference. There are others ... but they don't really matter... Bottom line - this is a stonkingly beautiful watch... and the only watch in my collection that hes ever drawn admiring comments from strangers. Too many flaws for your taste? As I said, you have an unassailable right to that opinion. But you are depriving yourself of an amazing experience...
  15. Don't forget my favourite... the fabulous rose gold 147 from Joshua:
  16. Hmmm... it is just not possible to make a watch glass out of genuine sapphire. If a genuine sapphire that big existed, it would be in the Tower of London, sitting alongside the Koh-i-Nor diamond. So quality watches... and quality reps... have crystals made from synthetic sapphire. I have seen this stuff in its raw state... a cylinder of synthetic sapphire, maybe six or eight inches long, just waiting to be sawn and ground into watch crystals. It is not so hard to distinguish between synthetic sapphire and mineral glass - if a dealer advertises his product as having a synthetic sapphire crystal and it turns out to be mineral, make a fuss.
  17. Anyone else in this thread received hate mail from El Laz? I have. I love it when a plan comes together
  18. The buckle on the strap that was supplied with the watch can be removed and fitted to a replacement strap. I don't have this watch so cannot tell you if the buckle is retained by a screw or a spring-bar... but it will be one or the other. Only pre-vendome Pams have sewn-in buckles. I hope that this helps.
  19. This rumour has been around for a while. I don't buy into it. Illegal activities like cash businesses.. girls, blackmail, drugs, gambling. When you use Paypal, credit card or inter-bank transfer, you leave a paper trail. That's no good to a terrorist. Western Union is not traceable... but do you really think that that the relatively small amount of money that you paid for your latest rep would be of the slightest interest to a terrorist fund-raiser? In comparison, say, to the street value of the opium currently being exported from Afganistan? No - this is just hype from the vested interests. Scare tactics. They must be really desperate.
  20. Thank you for the link - and for your insight. But - are you expecting a little too much from a rep? Especially at this price? Perhaps the 2893 will function as a "true" GMT. I don't know, I don't own one. I do own a large collection of GMT reps, though... both ETA and cheap Chinese... never had a problem with any of them. This is my first GMT with a modified 2836 movement. It has been on my wrist for a week and shows not the slightest indication of the GMT hand going out of sync. But I'll keep my eye on it and let you know. I know of no rep GMT watches that have the function of being able to adjust the hour hand whilst the GMT hand remains stationery. If you know different, please let us know. But to call reps "crap" because they don't do this is probably a bit extreme. Never say never, Mr Bond... Perhaps we will see reps with "proper" GMT movements one day. One day we may see reps with working moon-phase dials, too. Don't say it will never happen... I predicted that the upside-down "engraving" on the early Pam 111 reps woiuld never be corrected. I have had to eat those words :-). Words like "never" and "invariably" should be handled with great care. Happy timekeeping! Clive Hurry up! I love your pics!
  21. When you say "OEM", do you mean to tell us that this is the strap that came with your watch? If so, I'm going to get a big can of Nitromors... I've got a bagful of straps that came with reps.
  22. Looks like there is a lot of support for the Pam 184 / 185. Hello, factory... can you hear us?
  23. Agreed - without reservations! I bloody love mine.
