  1. Great review. Very helpful in shaping my choice... hope can get one in the future. The best case to start a mod from by the looks of it. Thanks Tribal!
  2. Great review, Stephane. Overall it looks real great but just my opinion is: the inside part of the crownguard could use some rework... the gen ones are really spread apart. But not that everybody will notice this one...except you really look closely of course and that's 1 out of 100 people I think :-) An additional note, is that on the Z-series no hole lug subs and SDs the bracelet end doesn't have any reference number engraving on them so it's correct this way (unmarked bracelet). Thanks for sharing.
  3. Got an EL1950 also and still alive and ticking, albeit not received as much beating as yours. All the best for the recovery.
  4. Great review By-Tor. Thought I was reading a John Holbrook's review article on IW magazine :-). Seriously it has the same aura and information, and is very helpful to us prospective buyer. Thanks a lot for sharing sir.
  5. Great pics. However, I have not done my homework about this watch. May I know how close do you rate this watch to the original one? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for your explanation, By-Tor. Repaustria, whomever you are now - hope you're still enjoying the forum and sharing your wonderful knowledge sir.
  7. Looking forward for your review, By-Tor. Thanks for your effort.
  8. I trust you are right, Mickey ... but I do believe our mate Repaustria have his fair share of knowledge, which doesn't necessary follows that order. Lots of knowledgable people, well studied on genuines, even vintages... but chose to dwell in this wonderful site, for the fun of it. But it's just my theory of course. Me personally, I hope Repaustria is still here to share.
  9. Great pieces Randy! Good to see them again. The Tudor rocks most! Cheers!
  10. Please pardon my ignorance, but what happened to RepAustria? Can't seem to find him anywhere... "deleted member" ? I've been missing the forum for quite a while... always love his knowledgable rollie's post and knowledge. Can anyone shed a light please? PM preferred. I hope this is not an inappropriate question. Thanks in advance guys. My franken 1665: http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd157/s..._rwg/GW%201665/
  11. Excellent. Congrats. Oliver sure knows his stuuff. Nice lugs shape, a sure sign character of the viet-case. And sourcing the gen. parts is not an easy feat at all. Enjoy your watch!
  12. Great piece Tribal! Congrats! Rethinking if I should sell my spare red dial now :-)
  13. Congrats! Looks excellent. Is that an added 'shoulder' (rounded edges) to the lugs? Looks like a gen. And very nice CG as well. Keeps us posted pls.
  14. All dramas aside, I think this is a great watch and Oliver had done a hell of a job. It needs a gen bracelet to make it looks complete. Congrats on your nice GMT, Stephane.
  15. Many thanks for posting this. I collect most of Asterix comics in my local language up until high school, where they're sadly gone when we moved to a different house. Great memories...
  16. Breathtaking pictures, Pugwash. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Great work Randy! Love the datewheel. Looks very gen imo. And been missing those familiar marble top pics :-)... Hope you are well my friend.
  18. Nanuq, Thanks! :-) Some moderate wabis are applied, but not too much -- not strong enough heart! But appreciate your input -- the coin jar is a nice idea.
  19. Lonnie, it is a 'viet-case', but I do notice some difference from the ones you mentioned (understand a website offers them for sale at a hefty turnaround :-) ). I can't say if mine is the same or a modded version from those. Other details you can find on my recent post.
  20. Rep, Thanks for the info. That's what I'm looking to observe with my incoming MBK -- hope Neil sticks with his fast fingers :-)
  21. Tribal, you hit the bullseye on the vietnam 1:1 :-) Think I pretty much know now. I'm in too deep and this probably is going to cost me a leg ;-)
  22. Hi guys, To clarify about some enquiry about whether the crown and dial were gen. No, they really aren't but that's a kind flattery :-) The dial is a reworked (re-made) from a non-Singer plate, done so the date window positions real well like gen. Unfortunately, rolex experts in the vintage gen. fora would spot it in a glance :-( As for the crown, it does look like a gen post 2001 Sub & SD's new thinner & more fanned-out logo crown, but it's not gen. Plus it's uncorrect for a 1665 SD. Below is a comparison with a gen.Tudor sub. All original rolex parts, same case like a 5513 sub but with ETA movt (a Ford powered Mercedes :-)). A correct triplock 1665 SD should look like the one on the Tudor. Tudor above, 1665 below Cheers guys :-)
  23. Thanks :-) One of the main reason I purchased this case...
