  1. The palp crowns aren't even titanium. They're blasted steel. The look is pretty good nevertheless.
  2. Why don't you take the caseback off and see if something obvious happened. Once I had a retaining clip screw jar loose and jam up a movement. It was an easy thing to extract the screw with tweezers and replace it. Then all was well. So you never know!
  3. Interesting, Zig. Maybe the diver's watches are different and more prone to rust / oxidation. Because now that I think about it, I normally see it on older Rolex sub movements, like this one from the 60's or 70's (not sure)....
  4. Good deal, Zig. I've got a number of projects awaiting your special touch!
  5. Lello, congrats in advance on the coming of your second child. I'll take several DWs when they're ready, as you know. Cheers!
  6. Tribal - your casework looks great. She's going to be a real looker!
  7. TK - very nice. Where did that dial come from? PM if you wish.
  8. Lacquer thinner and 2/0 steel wool is my method of choice. A fine grit wet/dry sandpaper would work also. If you scratch a crystal then it's definitely not sapphire. Always a risk when dealing with reps.
  9. Another fantastic vintagized piece! I'd almost be tempted to try lightly airbrushing some spots of brownish/copperish paint on the movement plates and bridge to try to simulate a little rust. Any thoughts?
  10. This is mind boggling.... in a very very good way.
  11. Strong blue, depending on what you mean by 'strong' as it is very subjective, is not correct. The blue hue is usually not in your face so to speak, but more noticeable under certain light conditions than under others, especially florescent. I've said it before, and I will say it again, though... The color of the AR is less interesting than the performance of the coating. Professional AR - that used by my coater, and used on gen watches - does vary from run to run and from watch to watch. The way to judge a coating, therefore, is not by its color but by how well it inhibits reflections. The performance of a quality AR coating in inhibiting reflections on the crystal is FAR more noticeable than the shade of blue or purple.
  12. Good looking; great lume work. Is that the Davidsen PVD?
  13. The more recent dials have added that tick mark.
  14. I could measure mine with dial calipers and let you know. But I'm on the road right now and didn't bring the sub with me, so you'll have to wait a week....
  15. You could just swap the Noob magnifier... BUT, it's too big (size wise). So pick your poison. And it's not the rehaut that causes the over-magnification with an MBW. The rehaut is correct if not slightly shallow. The problem is the magnifier itself. As you can see, my old school TW Best has near perfect magnification of the date...
  16. I don't think it'll work. The noob uses a crystal with a stepped edge whereas the MBW's crystal is a flat edge.
  17. Actually I'm starting the new job tomorrow, and will be logging in from a hotel room in the evenings. The single sided run isn't back yet, which is a bummer because it'd have been much easier to have been able to get those crystals returned before starting the new job. Oh well.
  18. Good to hear. It is about time they did away with the older bracelets.
  19. Nice writeup, W. Disappointing about the details, but you can't go wrong at that price given all the 7753s you've got that might someday need parts or even a swap.
  20. The SW200 is a direct replacement for the 2824. Both are 11.5''' lignes, 25.6mm diameter, 4.6mm height. Selita is basically making licensed copies of ETA movements. Companies like Oris are now using Selita movements in some of their lines (Oris cal. 733 == SW200), and I believe Selita claims to have several hundred clients. Selita also has a SW300 (ETA 2892 clone) and either has or is going to have an SW220 (ETA 2836 clone) and SW240 (ETA 2834 clone). These movements can fit into the same cases, receive the same dials, and accept the same additional modules as their ETA counterparts.
  21. Nice. BTW, the fuzziness of the Ubi overlay is intentional and realistic for its time period.....
  22. I definitely agree. A truly vintage strap looks amazing on a Fiddy.
  23. Correct Fiddy movement pictured below. Nice watch, still. I might suggest doing something about that canon pin cap, though. It's a bit awkward.
  24. Thanks, k-man.... I, unfortunately, didn't realize your guy (this guy) had PVD crowns and bought one of these. Oh well.......
  25. Well, I must say that the printing itself looks excellent. So once you get the alignment issues solved, you'll have a real winner here!
