  1. Alrighty, nice franken then... The older cylindrical rehaut fooled me since LVs post date the change to the conical rehaut cases. Well done!
  2. You'll have to try it and see what you like. Everyone is different. I used to wear 125/80, and have since sold all those "short" straps in favor of longer ones. Nowadays I much prefer the thicker straps (Vintager, Greg Stevens, etc) in longer lengths. And I think if you spend a little time reading Paneristi, you'll find that it's just the way of the world. It looks like Micah has adjusted his FAQ since the last time I looked, because, from the sounds of it, a lot of people were using (abusing?) his return policy to get a brand new strap if they decided they didn't like the length they originally purchased.
  3. I like my straps long. My wrist is slightly thicker than yours and I usually try to wear 135x80 or 135x85 straps. I just prefer the look. One thing to make sure of is that the hole spacing is as minimal as possible. Take a look at http://www.vintagerstraps.com to get an idea of what I mean. Micah spaces his holes nice and tight, making it easy to find a comfortable fit.
  4. I'm no LV expert, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "nice gen".
  5. If I had a TAG, I'd probably get it AR coated in one of the runs... And I'm talking about a gen TAG. I just really like what the AR coating does to the overall look of the watch. On the otherhand, if I had something like an AP ROO (gen), I'd probably not mess with it.
  6. Wait a second... Clear skies and sunshine in the UK? Your photoshop skills are complete young Jedi!
  7. Yep. It's no secret that the 2824 is in short supply. It has been for some time, as Pugwash says. I am suprised that they're not just plopping in the SW200 in place of the 2824 though.
  8. Indeed. Frustrating thread to say the least. How my observations of a watch got turned personal and into discussions of tree houses, I'm really not sure. But, it's back to watches for me.
  9. PAMs always attract attention, and I'm guessing that a 44mm PAM will look a bit too big on your small wrist. So it might not be the kind of attention you want. Then again, I don't know what you want. In general I think most people's wrists are too small for the 47mm Fiddys - mine included, and so I've never gone there. But some people don't mind because they love the watch regardless. It's really up to you. Maybe you can find a dealer locally to try a couple on.
  10. I think a demo is in order.... Of the coffee method that is.
  11. I see... I should have guessed.
  12. It can't compete with the bling of the week so far, but that's OK because I just don't have the requisite showmanship anyhow! But it's been a while for this one, so I think I'll go with it tomorrow and give the recently overworked 063 a rest....
  13. Wow, now that's a NICE franken. I haven't seen the white dial before. Very sharp. Who is the lucky owner?
  14. Great shot. What's the watch setting on in that pic? I think this whole "super rep" thing has passed me by... What exactly is a super rep?
  15. At the very least, RT, stop trying to spread the notion that I mod watches for people. I do not and never have. Those who participate in AR runs know that I will not even pop their crystals for them. So there's zero money for me in VCO gen2 vs. VCO gen4. It has always been and will always be about the enjoyment of a hobby. And I simply like the 2nd gen version better. If I liked this version better, I'd get this version. I can afford it. Be a little more open to the wide variety of opinions, even those different from your own, that make RWG, well, RWG. And try to realize when people share their observations, they're not "butting in" but rather "participating". Afterall, that's the draw.
  16. I really love those vintage movements. And that dial must be very interesting in person. In the first pic, it looks off white or maybe silverish. In the bottom pic, it almost looks orange.
  17. That's extremely tinted. With the AR coating I use, it's difficult to detect the tint without the watch dial in place. And black dials reveal the tint more so than white ones. Also the degree of tint is partially controlled by the substrate material itself, and will noticeably vary if you're using mineral vs sapphire for example. But the real question is how well does it inhibit reflections, as that is its job. Good AR coatings will often times make the crystal "disappear", i.e. make it look like there is no crystal on the watch at all. The degree of color tint is secondary. The only coating I've seen this deep a blue was on my Breitling Seawolf Avenger from the factory. I removed that coating and had that crystal double coated later, and there was a marked improvement in that situation. But, at the same time, it went from being single coated to double coated - so not a fair comparison at all.
  18. Good stuff. You definitely need to be posting more often.
  19. No. And even if I did mod watches for people, I'd not be sharing their bills with you. Ask Steve G, and perhaps exercise some tact and restraint by doing so in private.
  20. "If I had spent money & time modding a watch, only to have a better model come out the next month.. maybe I would react like Chieftang" Right there. My position is neither that this is a better model, nor that modding my own is now somehow regretful. I find the V2 the better base model for mods (important since both models require mods), thoroughly enjoyed modding it, and am elated with the result as compared to what I have held in my hand at Tourneau. And you trying, for whatever reason, to paint any other picture is putting (inaccurate) words in my mouth. You're starting to sound like a Silix shill to me. But if you're really trying to help people save money by not having to buy extra dials and such, then you ought to provide a fail safe method for brushing the dial numerals to remove the sheen on this version so that they look like the V2 and gen versions. Of course, if it were me, I'd take the V2 dial and just transplant the V4 cross. That's the best of both worlds, and also kills two birds with one stone as it also eliminates the screaming date window issue as well. Maybe people can also get the more accurate hands from Silix, too?
  21. Agree. And some flaws are going to bother some people more than others. Pick your poison. BTW, the white/silverish V2 VCO is my personal favorite for the double AR treatment. I can't recommend it enough for that watch.
  22. LOL, RT. Putting words in my mouth now, eh? Too funny. Fact is the VCO is a watch that was fun to mod (aren't they all?), is now extremely accurate as reps go, and yet rarely sees any wrist time. This new version, if anything, makes me glad that I obtained the previous version before it was discontinued. Now go ahead and have the last word. I know you must. -Chief
  23. Good summary. I agree. The date window is just a huge distraction with this version. The gen 2 has the location correct, and IF you look closely you'll notice the shape of the window is square instead of slightly trapezoidal as on the gen. The window on the new version just jumps out and yells at you "LOOK HERE". And now that I look even closer, it appears as though the numerals on the new version are polished instead of brushed metal as on the gen. *sigh*
  24. Now that's funny. Maybe having double AR on the caseback crystal will tempt you to wear the watch upside down with the movement side facing out.
