Super Avenger Dial With Stick Markers?
HauteHippie replied to HauteHippie's topic in The Breitling Area
Nevermind. Found a pic (thanks to someone on RWI). What do you guys think of these dials? I was offered a couple gens... -
Does anyone have pics of a super avenger dial with stick markers? I couldn't even find one on breitling.com but I thought they existed.... Thanks!

Don't have any patriotic wrist wear, so I rotated this guy in today...

I did finally come to this conclusion with mine, and used JB Weld epoxy to permanently fuse the end links to the case once and for all. There is really no downside to doing it, only the big bonus of not having the bracelet fall off unexpectedly.

Yea, I use mirror lockup, a Gitzo tripod, and a cable release... f/8, 2s, 100mm, resized : Still need to play around with some super close up macros though.

$199 is a nice deal. I'm still plugging away in my CS2 bootleg.

I suppose you mean depth of field is a function of distance from the lens and focal length. This is always the case, though, and you can calculate it rather easily. Feasibility is still dependent on the specific lens, though.

For sure. It's a nice watch at a good price. A piece you'll enjoy for years to come.
-
Definitely neat! Maybe it's just the particular shot, but it seems there's a little left to desire in sharpness. And now, not being a macro expert let me ask, is there some reason why you'd want to use this method as opposed to slow shutter speeds when shooting inanimate objects like watches?

Just don't mistake the short term irrational reactions to the Fed's bandaids as "recovery". We'll be in this mess for a long time.

LOL, I like it... "A little Ofrei-related setback". When I read that I can only picture Bob going apeshit for some reason....

What, no mouth shots? I'm not much of a cigar smoker, but I do like a Macanudo here and there. And I've had a couple Cuban Hoyo De Monterrey that I thought were great. But Cohibas make me puke! I am sure, though, if I gave cigars a real chance I too would love the full bodied brands.

You got yourself a good deal, but I don't think it'll be too long before these models are (back) down around $3100-$3200. It wasn't THAT long ago when that was a fairly common price range on TZ.

Hilarious.

I think I'll go back to this one tomorrow (Monday)...

Anyone install a new cyclops yet on GMT IIC
HauteHippie replied to rogerthat's topic in The Rolex Area
I think we've found freddy333's and it should be on its way to him soon. As far as the cyclopes go... I didn't do any for myself but I did look at one of the coated pieces by laying it next to the cyclops on my sub. It's an improvement for sure, but it's not a mind boggling improvement like double AR on a crystal. Such a domed surface, it picks up a lot of light. I toyed with the idea of doing double AR on these cyclopes thinking maybe that would help, but having recently been hearing stories about cyclopes coming detached from AR coated cystals, I figured it was best to leave the gluing surface uncoated. How will this financial mess affect rep world?
HauteHippie replied to milsub5517's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but the United States is bankrupt and our economy is based on borrowing to consume. And from whom are we borrowing? China can and should begin to decouple itself - and its currency - from the US. They have the factories to produce and the savings to ride this out. And I don't think it'll be too long before they realize that they'll be better off in the long run if they just let the US's house of cards collapse. This (short term) dollar rally isn't sustainable and isn't rational. There is a bubble now being created in US treasuries based on a perceived safety in the US monetary system. But it will pop, like all bubbles do. And in all honesty, the US dollar (and the Euro as well) is in real trouble IMO. It won't be long before the dollar index is back in the 70s and on its way down to new lows IMO. -

Thoughts For 2009 RWG Fund Raising Calendar
HauteHippie replied to lanikai's topic in General Discussion
The sillier the better, too. Seriously, though, I think this is a neat idea and just wish I had time to contribute... If I can send in any pics, though, I'd be glad to do so. -
Feeling dressy today...

I've forgotten to wear this one in a while, and that has been a crime....

If a landline and verifiable ID is what you require to trust someone, then you can request this info from the person with whom you wish to do business and proceed accordingly. People need to learn that the Admins are simply not going to be able to protect them against their own decisions to engage in potentially risky transactions.
-
I won't speak for the Admin, but I would say there's not much that can be done. At some point, you the individual have to accept some risk for sending your property to another person, whether that risk be in the form of customs, a scam, or anything else. Further, in this case, I would say there were plenty of warning signs right from the outset for anyone who wanted to see them.... Lies, propaganda, and deception. But I think most people chose not to believe initially, the subsidized zealous reviews started to come in, and those warning signs were forgotten in short order. But more importantly, I feel that there was a breakdown in appropriate feedback, and this is never going to be solved by forum moderators - only by the membership. I have received numerous PMs and emails asking if I would fix work performed by Jakub: cyclopes falling off, date wheels not working, hands bent, visible AR tooling marks, and more. But I'm not going to turn around and make these private messages public. That's your job. Now of course, everyone makes mistakes, and in the watch modding arena, things can happen. And I know, at least early on, Jakub was making good faith efforts to fix problems. So I'm not saying we should be petty (I don't have 100% flawless results in my AR runs either), but quite honestly, based on what I've been told firsthand, far too little has actually been revealed. I've heard even more secondhand info from trusted members, and I'm convinced that this "Polish watchsmith" isn't someone I'd allow in the same room with any of my pieces. If problems are being caused by what can only be described as incompetence, then does it really matter whether or not the individual takes corrective actions to attempt to fix them? So the bottom line here, as far as I can see, is that this was caused by a dishonest member, an overly trusting membership, and a breakdown in communication. Sadly it's the same old story, though. Hopefully the ending to this one is better than others, and I truly hope everyone receives their property back.

I would agree with others who think the sheen looks fine as is. Here's my old TW best, for example, and if anything I'd be tempted to brighten the rehaut a tad with some cape cod:

In the coming weeks I'm probably going to send an already PVD'd case to avitt for bead blasting... My hope is that it does not remove material (avitt says it is quite gentle) and that it'll be able to turn a shiny PVD into a matte PVD. We will see. It is probably a long shot, but the case isn't usable as is anyhow.
