  1. I believe I read something that said the gold colored ETAs were produced in China whereas "Nickle Plated ETAs" were produced in Switzerland but I just remember seeing something about that offhand in a discussion (about the "old" days of rep collecting where you could still GET gen ETAs!!). I'm of the opinion that most of the things we see advertised as Gen ETAs are not, in fact, genuine Swatch/ETA movements but quite honestly I've had no trouble from any of my A2836s so I'm really not that concerned about it (unless, of course, someone is charging for gen ETA's but using Asian ETAs...that's dishonest)
  2. Alright, question about this one (as it is simply beautiful) Can the same graphite treatment used on Daytona's to some success be used on this model?
  3. Looks good but then again I'm partial to shiny things
  4. Oh lani.... you know, most people would just go "Huh, that's cool, no dent" You just HADDD to post about it so we'll all buy the Blacksteel eh? Man, some people just too nice But seriously, thanks for taking one for the team and reporting back! (Same to you wheaton)
  5. Why humor....it's true.
  6. I see what you're saying... first PM I ever sent was to azerbyjam looking for PT's site I've had a number of questions sent to me and I try to answer them as best I can but I'll redirect if I don't know the answer... I've probably received two thank you PM's across 50-100 advice / question PM's... I always ask people to thank me by upgrading but I rarely see that either... It's sad...but you learn which members are worth going the extra mile for and which members will come here, ask a million questions about subs or IWC's etc and then never be seen again.... it's the one's that thank you and pay it forward that really make RWG what it is.
  7. Stuff like this happens in every country, not just the USA...the difference is that in most countries no one would report it/go after it/ care about it. I do agree that it is absurd however... Their last governor was arrested and convicted for fraud too...that's the "Chicago School" for ya!

Right. And you can use applications like Simplify to stream your music over the cell or wifi connection so the space isn't as much of an issue as it is with standard media players
  9. Welcome aboard! Hang around, do your research, check out the member trade/sales area and buy with confidence!
  10. I think I speak for 50% of members here when I say we've purchased things from dealers at least once or twice that were "off" compared to their photos... My advice, and take it or leave it, is to stick to the member trade areas here on the board...that way you can ask for "live" pictures and be sure you're getting a watch with a working movement, etc. Also, you've got the power of the membership on the boards... people are less likely to post misleading pictures and have shipping issues, etc...especially if you buy from established members...
  11. I would think a harsh solvent like rubbing alcohol would remove the paint....not sure though, just speculation
  12. Well played... you and RobbieG have similar gen taste.
  13. Waiting on pics but looks good...I'll probably pick one up.
  14. Sometimes the bars get bent or won't align, etc... in that case it's easiest to just take it to a local mall kiosk (not an authorized dealer) and ask them to install new springbars. Most will have no problem doing that regardless of whether they know/you disclose the watch is a rep. Maybe $10 at the most, if you're charged more than that tell them to f off
  15. Not at all...they should pay RWG members to look for replicas since they seem to suck at it...
  16. Beautiful watch...how does it run?

  19. Wow...things like that make you step back and appreciate what you have...thanks for sharing that!
  20. Beautiful pictures and a great series of pictures!
  21. Extra gearing and bastardization is required to make a CHS movement and that unnatural modification causes problems. The WHS modification is much less unusual and requires only one or two extra parts (I believe a "Step down" mechanism to have the GMT hand turn at 1/2 the speed of the hour hand) where the CHS model requires significantly more modification.
  22. Thank you for posting this!!
  23. Very mature. I agree...privately owned corporations like Rolex are perennial...Rolex's business model has worked for years including during the 60's-80's "Quartz Revolution." It doesn't cost Rolex anything and if they value their inventory using IASB rules or a fair value system gold prices going up will help their financials even if watches sit in inventory. One of Rolex's notorious business practices is to limit supply and keep retained inventory as low as possible... this prevents a major surplus of Rolex watches sitting on shelves and being sold on the grey market (vs other brands such as Omega, the other SWATCH brands, etc)... Rolex is Rolex. Period. They're not going to have a 3 million watch inventory to hold never sell...the Authorized Dealers will get positively smashed but Rolex will be fine.
  24. Thanks Jim!
  25. BK hands down
