  1. Welcome to the board, have fun.
  2. In my machine shop classes, when I was studying mechanical engineering, they called the texture "knurling". Like the texture on the grip of an aluminum Mag-light flashlight (torch) or on a barbell. It is not hard to do it on stainless steel, just takes one extra step on a lathe to add it to anything cylindrical.
  3. I don't understand why a winder would cost more than a quality automatic watch - paying over $300 (or even 900!) for a winder doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm just practical though, I don't see why you should spend so much money on a box for your watches, even if it does wind. Watches were made to be enjoyed on the wrist, and when not on the wrist any cheap winder/box should do. Just my 0.02, I'd rather have a few more reps, or a gen, for the price of a fancy winder.
  4. I'm down in the so-cal area, let me know if you're heading down here any time soon. Cheers,
  5. Fantastic, anything we can do to make the place run faster will be great.
  6. Magagne, like you mentioned, meeting someone in person is quite a bit different than just here on the board. I'd love to meet some of you in person. We even have a tool to help facilitate this - the Member Map. Unfortunately lots of members still haven't posted their general locations. Come on people, nobody is going to track you down based on the google map! Member Map - Plot your dot!
  7. Wow that dial looks amazing.
  8. How hard would it be to do it ourselves? Couldn't someone do it ghetto-style and simply make some overlay stickers with the correct font/etc, all the user would have to do is paste it on?
  9. I agree, on the rep there appear to be highlights on the numbers (there are no highlights on the gen) - not sure if this is because the numbers no the rep are raised or if the highlights are part of the font.
  10. TTK your sig mentions that this is not for general inquiries. What is the best way to contact you to inquire if you have something in stock, or what the price is for an item, etc? Email?
  11. What tipped you off that it is the Asian ETA copy?
  12. I had the same problem, the admin never sent me a confirmation email. So I say screw-them, RWG is a very friendly place, I'll spend all my time here!
  13. Los Angeles: I've heard good things about "The Alley" (Santee St between 12th and Olympic) but haven't looked myself. If anybody knows good suppliers in LA or Orange County I'd be glad to hear about them!
  14. Gorgeous watch, I keep getting closer to placing an order!
  15. Hmm, interesting thought. I could afford about 3 chinese movement Panerai's for the price of one swiss movement one . . . But then again if the chinese ones only last 1/3 of the time I have to deal with the hassles of re-ordering 3 times . . .
  16. Frankly I think it is because the cartel has lots of pictures online, accepts many forms of payments, show their prices, and have a good reputation. Especially as a noob, these things make me feel more secure buying something that might be total crap. Pictures especially help reassure us that they (the cartel) have good stuff. I'm sure Narikaa has fantastic stuff, but it's hard to tell the quality from the pics, and I don't see any prices. That creates a few barriers to ordering from Narikaa.
  17. Great replies, what's the best way to condition older or cheaper leather? I've heard that mink oil works well, but read elsewhere that it cloggs the pores of the leather (whatever that means) and actually causes the leather to dry out. Thoughts?
  18. Great thread, keep the ideas coming!
  19. I can't even see it from the photo! And I gaurantee that nobody but you is looking at your watches under a loup If you ever send it in for a mod (like lume) have the crystal replaced then.
  20. Welcome to the board, everyone is quite friendly. Well, usually
  21. Nice, I really like that bracelet. Forgive my ignorance, is the bracelet solid links or folded?

Why do you wind the watch so much? Just give it a little shake before you start wearing it, it would be much less wear and tear on the crown.
  23. If you're already going to be in LA looking for rep. watches, I've been told that there are good watches to be found there: >"I went to the Alley in down Town LA (the street is called Santee. >The Alley is a bunch of open shops, almost like the swap meet... I saw great >looking Panerai really cheap 100 and under... No Luminor Marina like the one >I have but they do have the Luminor Marina Automatic and Daylight as well as >others... If your in LA it's worth the trip. Trust me." Let us know what you find!
  24. Wow, what a fantastic collection, and fantastic photos. Not even a spec of dust on those beauties! How do you feel about the band on the Santos 100?
  25. Fantastic, let's see some pics!
