  1. Universal Watch did a beautiful job on a couple of my watches (including the dials) several years ago. They are not cheap, but they do consistently good work. They specialize in restoration of old timepieces and can make any part that is no longer available.

Thanks, I'll check those guys out. Maybe they won't yell at me for asking for pictures of finished projects.

  2. As some of you know, I am building another frankenjust (in slow motion), and I'm wondering if I might be mixing it up a little too much.

I have acquired a new style (2007) datejust band and clasp, similar to the ones seen on the newer daytonas, a MOP diamond dial (which I cracked) and a 16200 SS/WG case.

The case has lugholes, so I'm thinking that the combo of that and new style clasp may give it cause to be called out. What year did they start filling the holes in? And why then, didn't they change the case #?

Is there anyway to fill them in without looking shoddy?

I'm at work right now, but I'll post pics of everything I have so far, but it'll be a while because I'll have to do it when I get up around 3pm. I work nights.

    A semi-funny and sad sidenote:

I went to 2 local jewelers who advertised themselves as watchsmiths and asked them if they could install my H4 canon pinion, 4th wheel and hour wheel and they all said "huh?" One of them never even heard of eta!

Anyway, thanks ahead for the input.

  3. Damn you cannot even tell the weight difference?

    And in terms of finish?

I think the gen SS oyster DJ is 107 grams, there's a chart around here somewhere but I'm at a loss for the moment as to where to find it. I put a frankenjust on the scale the other day and it was 109 grams, which I liked becuase I hate when people who have probably never seen a real rolex in thier life say they can tell its fake because its "too light."

I haven't seen an eta DJ in person, so fit and finish is hard to tell, quality pictures which may be retouched are no good reference for me.

  4. Ok, I noticed a subscription cancellation on my paypal page, the subscription being to RWG. I don't even know when my supporter status runs out, how can I tell if I ADD positive? I simply forgot and don't want to PM admin everytime I don't remember. I understand that paypal is out of there as far as supporting goes, and I'm fine with that, but I don't want to sign on one day and see that I am not a supporter anymore.

  5. I can see what you mean, but then again, if he has to go out of town on business, that has to take precedense over a sale, and I can understand someone wanting to meet in person. In a way, I'd take comfort from that, as a true scammer would want the money and mail it to you, rather than offering to meet in person, afterall, if you meet in person, you might discover the watch a rep, or change your mind, and they lose the sale... Indeed, the title of the ad could have been better, perhaps 'mint condition' or 'reconditioned' Rolex might have been more accurate... Go with whatever you feel best, but, as I mentioned before, calling their bluff, and offering to meet on the 15th certainly can't hurt :)

    [Edit to add]

I forgot to ask, was the ad in a paper or online? If it was in a local paper, then chances are the ad was placed several days before the paper was printed and released, so his business plans might have changed in between that time.

    It was on craigslist.org

  6. I'm looking for other options for dial refinishers besides kirk rich. I don't know wtf the deal is over there, maybe big heads or something, but the guy I was talking to must be related to otto or something. READ: A$$hole.

Who else does a good job, or do I have to put up with the hissy fits just because thats my only option?

  7. Ok, like most of you im a long time fan of the Rolex submariner and have always wanted one, sadly its always been just out reach, anyway im not comfortable with spending 2.5k on a watch tbh. That said, ive been working and saving hard and have managed to save 1400GBP for a dream gen watch and have been looking at Omega seamasters and PO's. Beautiful watches but still not a sub:( for various reason its not possible to increase my budget now or in the future so its pretty much now or never as im unlikly to ever be in this position again, financialy.

Which leads me to my problem, up until a few weeks ago i had know idea how good replicas have become and have been amazmed at the work you guys do on your watches! Amazing, amazing stuff. Im so impressed im now considering have a vintage sub with a gen Rolex movement bulid for me instead of buying a gen Omega, im i crazy!? What would you do? What should i do? Any ideas who could do this work in the UK? And would my budget be enough? (im thinking, red vintage sub, or Comex rep with gen rolex movment and mostly gen parts built on an mbw) Thank for your help :)

First off welcome to the forum!

Personally, I would just go with an eta, unless you plan on walking around with a case tool and showing everyone the movement all the time. That movement alone would take up most of your project's budget. Go for a Gen dial if you want to spend the dough on it, and check with the people here on the forum first before you pull the trigger on one. Just keep looking around and you'll find an MBW for sale

    Good luck!

  8. Next time you go on Ebay, try searching for 1665 and click the "items and descriptions" button that way you search the title and the description for that term. Some might not put it in the title.

this is what I got when I did that----------> 1665

I do that too, just in case. It just seems like there is about 1/2 of what used to be on there a month ago. However, anyone crazy enough not to put the most search able word in their title is an idiot and I don't know if I would trust them.

  9. I was doing my usual searching today and noticed that there just isn't sh** on there lately. Whats going on with that? Search 6263 and all you come up with is a bunch of t-shirts and books. Same with 1665, etc. It looks like some stuff I was watching disappeared too....

I'm pretty sure that a search for just "rolex" would show about 12k listings, but now 4700? What gives?

  10. I have been interested in getting a DRSD for quite some time, and was wondering if I could get some suggestions from members here.

I'm looking at the Puretime DRSD sold on the forum here, but I am not familiar at all with this dealer's products. The watch seems very reasonably priced to me, but as with most vintage models, looks too new.

Is there a review anywhere on this particular watch?

Or does anyone have any recommendations for other DRSD's in the same price range?

  11. Dutchy,

I am also planning on starting a small business in the college town I will hopefully be attending when I return to college in August. I'm basing my business model on several different companies that I have worked for since I decided college wasn't my way. (I was dead wrong BTW)

First things first though, I have to get all of my records in order and actually get IN.

  12. Well, it was a total blast, it seemed the whole hotel was a big ass party. Unfortunately, I got "lucky." When I woke up in the morning the girls were gone and it appears they liked my watches and wallet and decided to keep them. Other than that it was a riot.

  13. By now, you all know this is a big deal for me. Tomorrow, I will be checking in to the hyatt regency on wacker, and attending the NYE ball on, umm, NYE. This is going to be a bash, 4500 people! Yikes. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else from the area, or travelers are going to be around. Maybe we can have an impromptu get together. Flash some reps, drink some booze...whatever. If this sounds cool, shoot me a PM, I'll give you my gmail address to my BB, and we'll take it from there.

  14. If people are going to be getting this watch, this should be a sticky. I re-read it now, and I have the same deal going on with my caseback. Who knows when I'll have a chance to work on it though, time is my enemy lately. I am currently testing my watch without caseback. Apparently I was also premature when I declared mine to be running perfectly.

On a side note, for those interested in this watch, it is worth it to me, and I'm sure to freddy as well. It is a very economical solution to the v72 powered watches, and way more accurate than anything else out there. It seems the stems for the 3 and 9'oclock subdials are only about 1mm further apart TOTAL than the v72, so unless you know, you would probably miss it. I'm sure this would do quite a number on the casual observer. Most people who know about the gen may have not even seen one in person anyway. The only external difference in the case is about .75mm or so shallower rehaut.
