  1. Which one do you daytona guys prefer? Fixed hand at 6: http://www.pc-80108.com/rldv01002-updated-...nos-p-3621.html ok, whats a copy venus 75? why is the needle fixed, can it be "unfixed"? eta 7750: http://www.pc-80108.com/rldv10006-vintage-...7750-p-523.html Which one is closer in terms of dimensions? I know the gen has different spacing between the top and bottom pushers but do either of these? Maybe they are the same case with different movements for all I know. Look at this silly stuff too for a good time, part of me likes these 2 dials, part is repulsed. I have no use for them but thought others would like a peek. (having no use does not mean I won't bid btw) I'm sure these are "replacement" or redial at best. Ebay item #'s 140172072763 and 140172074403
  2. Thanks, I did it, what a hassle! I was getting a little nervous about how close to the edge the numbers were getting, I'll post some pics later. I got it perfectly without having to use glue too.
  3. This isn't a rebuttal on yours, but it's something. Not enough ammo yet, too busy, but quickly I'll post some statistics that I'm going to add up and configure to see what the ratio is between production, use, population, # of vehicles and capacity. Some info I gleaned: brazil Oil - Consumption: 2.1 million bbl/day Oil - Production: 1.59 million bbl/day "But the number of motor vehicles in Brazil doubled between 1990 and 2003, with a leap from 18 million to 36 million in total." Population: 176,029,560 Age structure: 0-14 years: 28% (male 25,140,954; female 24,199,276) 15-64 years: 66.4% (male 57,424,151; female 59,409,928) 65 years and over: 5.6% (male 3,992,017; female 5,863,234) (2002 est.) usa Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007 est.) Oil - Consumption: 20.73 million bbl/day (2004 est.) Oil - Production: 7.61 million bbl/day (2005 est.) U.S. Motor Gasoline Consumption 9,159,000 barrels/day (384.7 million gallons/day) As you can see, Brazil is WAY closer in production to use than the US, but keep in mind that they only use a 20% blend of alcohol in their fuel, the us is using 85%. Its almost reversed, so the number of actual needed oil per vehicle is way different and I have to sit down and do the math on it before I can figure out how boosting alternative fueling can affect how we use our crude oil and how much we import. They do have a smaller population and that means less cars, but it also means that there is less consumption as well. I don't think modeling our "plan" after Brazil would go anywhere, I was just pointing out that it is only a myth that it can't be done. I don't think we will ever stop importing oil, but it is very feasible to believe that we can be more efficient about it. However, for comparison purposes, Brazil produces about 76% of what oil it uses, and the US about 36% If you compare that to the blend of alcohol, it gets interesting, brazil using 80% gasoline and 20% alcohol, its close to its production numbers, but of course, not all crude oil is used for cars and gasoline. I believe that it would be possible to seriously reduce our dependence on foreign oil by using a fuel blend. If only 15% of what goes in our car is actual gasoline, and I know I'll have to back this up later because I'm guessing, we may be able to reduce our consumption by at least 40%. What bugs me the most is the oil companies statements that E85 and the likes are not going to free us of anything, which I think is a complete lie. Maybe E85 won't cut it, but what aobut say......E50 or something? They say there isn't enough corn for food and fuel, but I'm sure corn is less expensive to import than friggin oil. I'm supposed to be working on stuff and this was supposed to be a quick reply...oops....I really have to go.
  4. Check it out, I asked him about the watch and this is what he said: Hi, What movement is that in there? And what model number is the watch? Thank you, Steve Hi, i m not exactly sure about that,so i better not telling u the answer and i can't see any number behind the case back, probrably 188...very sorry for that..anyway,thanks for your interest..
  5. Where can I get movement parts besides offrie and cousins? I remember trying to order from cousins a while back, but it was such a hassle I gave up. Offrei is great but they don't have the parts I need listed and I'm too busy to call. I won't dare email and pay $15 for a stock check just because the guy dislikes email. Unless someone can point me to the section on that site, I need somewhere that has datewheels (not overlays) and hands. I lost my mercedes hands for eta and also the datewheel. I might also want to buy the entire keyless works, since no matter what I cant get it going, I think something is bent. A catalog would rule.
  6. @POTR I don't know how you can just see all that stuff, then again, you probably don't have ADD. I still haven't bid yet, I'll wait to the last day and if it's under 50 then I'll bother. I dont want to pay more than 50 either, well 85 with shipping. Might be rep, no hands, crown or pushers, and no band.....whew. Don't worry about letting me know if your bidding, I'm leaning more towards no go on this one, too many variables. BTW, I see you're from Seattle, I haven't visited there in a while but I do like it. Most of my fam out there lives on Whidbey Island if you ever heard of it.
  7. Feel good, now I've always wanted to go to Australia, but the rumor is that the laws are stricter than the US. ( I find it hard to believe). That wouldn't stop me from going of course. I heard felons aren't even allowed to go there, is that true? Side note: I smoke, and I still understand the smoking in public building thing. What I was trying to point out was that, under certain circumstances, you would have to break a law just to obey another one. Of course it is unlikely that everyone who goes out for a smoke is going to get arrested for public intoxication, but it is rather amusing that it is technically possible. Actually, now that I think of it, in '99 that happened to me while visiting a girl at her college dorm in Iowa..... I rest my case
  8. UB7, cubic works sells actual overlays or datewheels that need to be filed? I love datewheels and can't get enough.
  9. This is going to sound like a rant, and maybe it is. There are some things about everyday life that are seriously getting on my nerves and I feel like sharing them with you. EBAY I love ebay, it lets me have a PT job without leaving the house, which is good because I was laid off of my "real" job. BUT Buyers: Stupidity, I mean come on people, do you really think that a guy who can't spell chronometer really is smart enough to make enough to have purchased a brand new rolex last year? And the reason he signed up on the bay was just to sell the watch? WTF Keep bidding on it then retard, I'm sure hubcapbillyboy134 would love to sell you his "rolex" that he got from his "uncle" Good thing he knows nothing about watches right? "this my watch. I like this watch. but i dont want watch, never ware" SURE, OK Scammers: Damn, get a job! Just because I lost mine doesn't mean I'm going to start hawking my reps as real, if you can't make it with what you got, maybe you should go back to college, it's never too late. Grow some balls and just rip someone off the old fashioned way, walk up to them, punch them in the face, tell them your name and take thier stuff. If you have to do it from several states away, you are not a man, you are a boy and I hope you get grounded. Real Sellers: Your title does not have to have "wristwatch" in it. We see the pic in the gallery listing, we know its not a freakin' spoon dude. Why did you pay extra for a subtitle that says "officially certified chronometer" WTF. Almost every rolex says that on it, do you REALLY think thats the selling point? BTW...See that little button on your camera with the flower logo on it? PRESS it! Get a gallery picture, its 35 cents, if you can't afford it, every one is going to think your watch is fake and it probably is. The USA: I live there I like it, but this is getting ridiculous. Has anyone seen escape from new york? Blimps floating around saying stuff like "no read meat, no smoking" Thats gonna be true in 15 years or so. In chicago, after the 1st it will be illegal to smoke indoors in public buildings, and you have to smoke 15 feet away from the building in order to be in compliance. Too bad that if you're 15 feet away from the building you are in public and can be arrested for public intoxication. So if you're out at the bars or clubs on the weekend, you just may be indirectly arrested because you smoke. Break 1 law to follow another. There are many towns in the suburbs where it is illegal to drive past the same place 3 time within 15 or 20 minutes. You can be ticketed or arrested for "cruising" Are you kidding me? What kind of cranky old ass that hates kids thought of that? People really had to be whining about kids driving to get that one passed, or the towns just want some money for nothing. Keep in mind that this is in towns like Schaumburg and other affluent or semi affluent towns. Not really a high crime area. There's too many petty laws to think about off the top of my head, but it's getting retarded. Its edging toward totalitarianism. You know you're in trouble when every cop in Bloomingdale (semi upscale town) dresses like he's about to go on a swat raid. Go pull that old lady over, commando, thats the most dangerous thing you'll do for your entire career. BP/Mobile and the rest of the Fuel companies. 9/11 was a godsend for you sh*t heads wasn't it? Go ahead, keep blaming china for the fuel prices, it's all because they use 6 times as much petrol since 9/11 than they used to and not the fact that you took advantage of Americans gullibility and fear to gouge prices. Exxon mobil recently posted the highest profit of any company EVER. What was it, 30 something Billion? Divide that by the number of actual mobil customers and compare it to how much more they spend per year on gas and you might find something. 9/11, the wars in the middle east and China are whats blamed for higher prices, but does anyone realize we get only about 17% of our fuel from that region? The rest comes from our hemisphere. Venezuela, a country looked down upon and dubbed 3rd world by arrogant Americans, has pump prices under a dollar. Granted, they don't have to import much crude oil compared to us, but hey. I'm going to have to do some research because I forgot, but one of the south American countries became energy independent a year or 2 ago. The use e85 in all of their new vehicles, and are able to grow the corn for ethonal and refine the oil that comes out of their land. We have so many "experts" in our country telling us how E85 is not the answer, but if you ask me, they are mouthpieces for the oil companies. Everyone buys into this crap too. Big kicker is that the south American country in question buys a bulk of it's E85 cars from good ol' Ford motor company in Detroit.
  10. Sorry, I was reading pretty fast and I interpreted that you would be finished after you put the band on. I love the DJ, shows taste class and simplicity all at the same time, hard to pull all of those off together. Good job. Where did you get the overlay for the datewheel BTW? Donor watch?
  11. where's the pic of the finished project?
  12. Hey all, where is the thread/tutorial about putting a gen bezel insert into a rep sub? I can't find it and I'm pretty sure I saw it somewhere. Also, whats the deal with the 4's in 40 on there? some are triangular and some are more trapezoid And the guy sent me a 16800 insert when I asked for a 16610, is it the same thing or should I send it back? This is for a beginmariner, my dog bit my watch and the orig insert bent off
  13. @ Potr: I cant find any 808's that look like that either. I don't want to spend too much on a broken rep, then again, if that thing is as old as it looks, most reps of those days were quartz. How high is too high anyway? @Nanuq: Hands are that hard to find? Here's a few similar things: The movement looks like this one when I looked at it for 30 sec: http://www.farfo.com/menswatches/Page3/bre...omat217012.html http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-BREITLING-CHRO...2QQcmdZViewItem Anyway, this could be fun, I'll place a bid and not worry about it. I just hope I didn't spur some competition by posting this thread!
  14. All he says is "very old breitling" Think its real? I love broken stuff and people with 0 feedback ebay item #260174685560
  15. do you mean that there is no lume applied to the pearl or that the lume just doesn't illuminate? If it is real, and New, old stock, it is possible that the tritium or luminova wore out. Tritium only lasts about 20 years I believe, and if the part is that old, thats what it would use so the pearl not glowing shouldn't be a red flag. I would actually be more concerned if it did still work for a vintage piece like a dial or bezel. I don't know what it's supposed to look like exactly, but one of the other members will surely chime in soon on that matter.
  16. Little bit of a revival here...after some tinkering induced by boredom and research brought on by the same I have concluded the following: For those who don't know, the 2813 in the noobs are not eta or eta copy even. They are the DG2813, and the only similar characteristic is the number. They go for $15 on offrei, and $4 each when you buy a hundred or more from the manufacturer, I inquired myself, but gave up due to lack of good communication. I took the DG2813 out and fit the eta 2824 in just to see how it all lined up, and it was promising. the stem aligned perfectly, the crown screwed onto the stem and the spacer ring in the watch already was a perfect fit as well. I didn't feel like taking the noob dial of, so I used one of the crappiest dials I have ever seen for the test. I could probably make an overlay with whats already on there, so thats all I would use off of that movement. Now, however, is not the time to change it, so I put it back to stock. I have no datewheel for the eta, and I still have to get the hairpin that holds, oh heck I don't know what to call it. Long story short, I need 1 part for the keyless works and a datewheel. The 2813 is running fine for now, but I don't trust something that sells for $4 to the manufacturers. I'll wait until I need to replace it, it's just good to know that I can do it very easily. A few afterthoughts.....I'm not sure that the 2813 on offrei is 28800 bph, i think it's 21600. It does come in 2 versions. Also, for anyone opening a rep case with tools made for gen, sometimes the teeth on the rep case are not perfect. I always stick a piece of electrical tape to the tool to provide a tighter seal that resists slipping which would gouge the caseback. It's an easy preventive measure. Maybe even a good idea with gen backs too.... Some pics Stock: With 2824 and stem: The "test" dial!
  17. Ahh, ok good. It wasnt like that before.
  18. Watch out for this one, looks like an eta movement. And WTF is that, a spacer ring? Not in a real one, maybe a franken. Item # 130166943584
  19. I'll start a thread on this one too BTW, this one looks like an old eta movement so I'd steer clear until someone confirms it: 130166943584
  20. I think I was watching the same thing, I expected it to go to 800 or so. Thats the butterfly movement with 18000 bph, good for a vintage sub. I have no use for it but I watch them just in case, I think cleaned up it would have been worth between $800 and $1100. I've seen non working ones go for that, it just depends on who is looking at the time really, but even so the ebay market value is very consistent. Now that I think of it, the 1530 is non-date, the 1535 is worth a little more. Either way, IMHO, it was a deal. It may have not gone high enough because of the bridge marked 1556.....People don't like that stuff. Now my question.....can a 1530 be converted to a date movement? I see indentations that look like maybe they would accept the mechanism, but I'm not privvy enough on watchmaking to know if thats even possible.
  21. how can you tell from the front? actually i guess it doesn't matter if it looks like crap, i'm not going to buy it. I wonder if they take gen dials off more common watches and refinish them to rare dials. who is to say whether something was originally a bond submariner dial when i could have started it's life of as a more common one of the same size? Might as well get a HQ total fake I'm not gonna buy it.
  22. I know I may have to wait a while for an answer on this one, but where do people get the repped phones like the vertu and the Iphone? I'm sure tradekey and similar sites have a bunch of people claiming to have it, but who knows what you'll get. Googling a subject like this would be a waste of time because the first 500,000 results would be scammers and such. I really would like a vertu, and I know someone out there is selling reps of them, but who is it? That phone is just cool looking, simple and whatnot. I have the BB pearl and it's way more functional but I'd like to whip out a vertu every now and again.
  23. This guy wants a little more, sorry I was talking about a bunch of dials I got for 60 a piece a while back that included a james bond dial, 11623? daytona dial, 1 MOP diamond dial for pres, old explorer dial, red diamond pres dial. 300 for all of them shipped, I miss that guy.... Current guy wants 100, I'm waiting to see if it is a gen refurb or just a total copy. Value on a refinish should be +/- $180, not sure on copy though. I see so many variations of the same dial that I'm beginnig to wonder if any of them are even real.
