  1. wow... I knew that. I have work on the brain; need sleep......
  2. by a country mile....i like it. I agree. this was the first watch I really liked and works well casual or professional. its traditional and simple but still masculine, and unique enough to catch the eye in short sleeves. if they were a good frickin rep I'd be on it like white on rice.

  4. Wow, Sub, that's ridiculous. Streamlined/updated classics are a personal favorite. Some day my next project will be a 60's mustang fastback with OEM parts, except rims and tires. Preserve the beauty and integrity of the classic parts, and swap out something that's not permanent with a modern upgrade. very nice
  5. I agree in that people will do what they will do, but at the same time, why enable someone who intends to do harm with a tool to do it so well? and by the by, iceberg, your signature is the s***
  6. Just thinking about this just now and wondering if anyone else puts this much thought into it. I wear my Sub LV when I'm on call in the hospital because: 1. it has a date and I date alot of charts. 2. its moderately sized so I can pull gloves on over it. 3. it's waterproof(-ish) so if I get blood, guts or fluids on it, it's gonna survive. 4. it's not on a leather band that could be damaged by said fluids, or by my own sweat after not having showered in 3days... 5. it's an asian 21J I got used so I don't really care if it gets messed up So, how do you pick which rep you wear to work?
  7. oh yeah, and Id still rather be called a watch incorrectly than other ambiguous designation, sea-men.
  8. Ill take a stab at that one, carlsbad, in good fun. The Rolex Sub has nothing to do with submarines. Now, try to keep up; I did get a 99% on the national grammar CLEP test in highschool. I don't know the history or etiology of the name, but here's a guess. I'm gonna say that 'Sub' means under, and the 'Marine' means water, and the 'er' means 'one who' or 'that which' 'is or does' whatever action the suffix is modifying. In this case the root word means 'underwater,' so the suffix '-er' implies 'one who or that which goes or is underwater.' In this case it's a watch, so I'm assuming that the name Submariner means a watch that goes underwater. Is that a stretch? Hence, this watch has nothing to do with submarines, and there's no reason a 'submarine -er', meaning 'one who is on a submarine,' should feel the need to sport one. Plus, why would rolex spend all that time trying to figure out the helium valve for guys on a pressurized submarine......
  9. That makes sense. I was in an AD a few months ago, and I bet now he was referring to just the rubber strap itself.
  10. Please don't move to Humor yet.... Im skeptical, but I thought this might at least get me some laughs. If anyone actually does and can give me contact info, it would be great. thanks
  11. this thread is killing me. even if you really really care about the 9 page grudge match initiated by Chad, you have to appreciate the humor in this... Put it back in the FS thread :D
  12. Wow that looks great sub. And I haven't posted any wristshots yet because my girlfriend has my camera.... but I think we might be hand twins....
  13. any word on whether the dial will be more accurate. That's my big issue. And about the rubber strap: can't you just get a gen for like 100$? I'd rather have the gen rubber than the cheap dust magnet rep ones. Am I wrong?
  14. no flippin joke, how the hell do you read it? what's the link?
  15. Im hitting the sack so don't have time to get the pics. I started a thread about the same model a few months ago as well with some more info and pics in it. The helium valve on this one is definitely way off. I know some of the reps either don't have the He valve, or have this 'bubble' version which is nothing like the gen. This is the only pic I could find quickly, but the pics in the beginning of this thread have it too I think. And I'm out http://mytimesquare.net/cat_images/1195429...o_300x450_1.jpg
  16. Anyone have a guess at what watch Arnold has on the cover? Its the same watch in the article but there arent any good pics. It looks huge, but not like anything I recognize. There's also a brief article telling us that we will be extra cool this summer if we wear our watches on canvas bands. <lame> I just got done ogling some surprising canvas band combos, though, (can't get over how cool Pug's Sub on canvas pics are) and I thought it kind of serendipitous to find this article a couple days later. So bring em out for summer if they're on canvas straps, everyone, cause Esquire says to No wait, actually just because they look so sweet like that.
  17. The Subs on the canvas are inspirational for how different a watch can look with a strap change. I think I might have to plagiarize that look. Great collection. I also have that fantasy GMTII, and I totally agree that Rolex should have gone with that design!
  18. HAve you seen the '08s? You may retract your "rolex has taste" comment.... Thanks for the info fellas
  19. Wow, Im not going to repeat what everyone else is saying about how hideous these are. I do like (what looks to be) the engraved ceramic bezel on the sub, though. The blue is just goofy, though, and I cant stand the ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX on the rehaut.... so sad....
  20. Well I stand corrected...partly. I still wouldn't do it, but the lugs overhanging your wrist Lani looks just fine...
  21. Agree with above. The flaws in the Heritage commented on here are well known but it's still fantastic out of the box and very affordable. Theyre fixable too
  22. I don't think you should have Mickey. It looks pretty killer..... In reference to watch size: I think most of us would agree that watch size is all about preference and the 49mm+ watches arent just for huge people. I do agree that lugs shouldnt overhang the wrist, though. There lies the line between oversized and ridiculous to me....but I am just one man...
  23. Seriously, though, I think if you put on a rep you had better know the flaws you could get called out on or you shouldn't be collecting reps in the first place. Then you should either be able to back it up, or fess up. Personally, I wouldn't want to take apart a 5k watch and/or upgrade it, but I like doing it, so Ill buy cheaper versions that I can personalize that will have some meaning to me. If really pressed by someone, I would call him out for being a douchebag as much as he was calling me out for my watch. If it were a friend, I would just tell him why I like it and why I do it. Who's to say the a watch that you have worked hard to perfect is any more "authentic" than one you bought that is exactly like everyone elses? That's my two cents at least...
  24. Say your grandfather gave it to you as a gift, then tear up and say "speaking of which, I need to buy my plane ticket to his funeral..." If that doesn't change the subject, hit him in the face for his insensitivity (but really for calling out your watch)
