Thanks for this review Yelloman, and thanks for updating the pics. As mentioned, my detailed review can be found here: Toad's 2006 CD Review Cheers.

I just received mine (Mar-2008), and while the bezel alignment problem still exists most other problems have been solved. The datewheel alignment issue is not as severe, but can be remedied as well at low cost. My detailed review can be found here: Toad's 2006 CD Review

Warning - Cousteau Diver - Ticking Timebomb
Toadtorrent replied to spookycord's topic in The IWC Area
My 2006 CD purchased from Silix in Mar-2008 did not have any decorated rotor, making this problem fixed. You can read my review: Toad's 2006 CD Review -
Hi Takashi, Thanks for the reviews on the CD and the pictures. You inspired me to write one of my own: Toad's 2006 CD Review Cheers. I would love your comments!

Hi, My CD finally came in...you can read all about it in my review: Toad's 2006 CD Review -
* UPDATED (2008-Apr-6) - to include water resistance pressure testing results You would think that so much has been said about the 2006 IWC Cousteau Divers chrono that there probably isn't much more left for discussion, but when my brand new CD arrived from Silix, holding this piece really does make you realize how good a rep watch can be. A list of the current major 2006 Cousteau Diver postings are as follows: - Seadweller's guide to IWC reps - Seadweller's review - Yelloman's review - Takashi's CD and Slevin Comparison - Aapxp's Cute Pictorial Most of the reviews I have read were made in various times in 2007 or very early 2008. Given that many have said they would never buy a rep in the first 6 months of introduction to allow for quality control problems to be rectified, I figured I would try and explore what improvements could be made. So, on that note, welcome to my review of my Silix 2006 IWC Cousteau Divers chronograph. IWC HISTORY The International Watch Company has an interesting presence in both the genuine and replica watch worlds. Likely in the top 5 brands collected by the replica community alongside flashier brands like Rolex, Breitling, and Tag Heur, IWC watches, while available in technically brilliant masterpieces like their Grande Complication for the most part have an understated feel which matches nicely with how IWC considers themselves

Oh yeah...I totally forgot to follow that thread. I remember when you posted the original few shoots with the updates that were to follow...and I forgot to check back in. Awesome!!

Those are two totally different beasts. It all depends (I think) on what else you have in your collection. The Slevin is a great watch, but is significantly sportier than the MBW. The Montblanc is dressier, and has more "bling" factor I think as it is a brand that has more general recognition due to big name represention and a fashion presence (Nicholas Cage on posters, MB bags, pens, accesories, etc). IWC I liken to the sophisticate's brand...for people who know watches, they will think "nice", but for the general population, they will have no idea what an IWC is, but they will definitely think "oooh...Montblanc...classy" even though the watch costs less than the IWC. IWC does watches...that's it. If in doubt...get both. That's my opinion at least.

Hey...you're in Ottawa...low key city. I'm more of the Nanuq style...and my friends who are into both gens and reps are pretty low key on most things except their toys. Clothes...tasteful but conservative...sometimes really low key (jeans and t-shirts)...nothing flashy...but they're really into a few things whether that's sports equipment, time-off and travelling, etc...none are really into cars.

A true collecting personality...and a true collection!!! My eyes haven't opened that wide in a long time. Awesome box of goodies. I would love a breakdown of the process of getting your single red and double red put together...those are great!!!

That's a nice looking piece. I wouldn't have picked it for myself, but your pics make it shine! Good job.

SilixPrime - Order to Arriving - How long?
Toadtorrent replied to greg_rfc's topic in General Discussion
I agree. I ordered 3 watches from him via email. 2 were special orders, one was one that is "standard stock". 1 of the special orderes arrived after 1 week...no big deal...but the second has been waiting for over a month. I asked him to ship the first 2 which he did...but as I paid for express shipping ($28), but now require 2 shipments for the order, he shipped the first 2 by registered it seems which has taken about 9 days to arrive in Canada, and should be across the country in another 2-3 days. The third watch is still pending...stay tuned. -
I've read the older version without factory AR are not, but the new series with the double AR is...hmmm...when it arrives, we're about to find out. The vendors are saying the new ones can be "waterproofed" which to me means they CAN be waterproofed, but CN quality control means it will be hit and miss without work from a watchmaker. I ordered a 3717-02 (Spitfire Chrono) which uses the same case. The new Doppel (PVD) supposedly uses the same 3717 case in PVD, is supposed to be waterproofed as well. I'll post results of the pressure test if the watch ever arrives.

Good explantion. I'd buy it!

Me. I use it to time my eggs. I need an A7750 chrono movement to time 4.5 minutes +/- 30 seconds... -
Newbie Gets Breitling Chronomat Evo by Josh
Toadtorrent replied to Noel Fleischer's topic in The Breitling Area
Yup...I upgraded before I even bought my first rep based on the quality of info and the great folks and resources here. I intended to only buy one watch and am now well into more than that, plus books, tools, servicing, more watches, boxes, straps, etc. Did RWG save me money? Uuuuuh...yeah...sure... -
Both about the same price...different animal...that's all. The important difference to me is whether or not the skin used has the small or large scale pattern. I'm not a big fan of the small "squares" (I can't remember offhand what the proper term for this is). The small squares look too much to me like regular lizard skin. To be honest, my Di-Modell Imperator strap is nicer as "moo croc" than the OEM IWC gen croc AND it's waterproof!!
-
You obviously got the caseback off...but if there's an issue, you could use what's called a Jaxa caseback tool, or the Rolex Bergeon openers (get cheap arms, and the OEM Bergeon dies in 29.5mm size for the Submariners, SSD, etc). The small screwdrivers go down to 0.5mm...and some people still sharpen these to get the blades thinner.

The amount of time it takes me to read the posts, and make the few responses I do I think is a lot. I can only imagine how much work the Admin team puts in. Bookoo Kudos to you all for all your time and effort!! AND, Bookoo Kudos to the active members who make up this community and make it an interesting place to be. We may not agree on everything, but we can agree that RWG is an important place to be to keep involved in the hobby.

I think it's pretty standard for auction catalogues with a reasonable lot. We have a massive collection of Christies/Sotheby's fine art auction catalogues which are very cost effective to get subscriptions for for a year which might be about $400 for everything.

Way expensive in Canada...but I couldn't resist. I just ordered it...USD$90 + USD$30 shipping. Thanks for the heads up!

Rollie SD with a few mods, what do you think? Rep? Gen?
Toadtorrent replied to RWG Technical's topic in The Rolex Area
Uuuuuh...yeah...exactly what he said. Looks great to me...I wouldn't be able to tell squat like Repaustria and Freddy...all I can say is WOW. -
That's why you have your PAMS. I do like the ceramic GMT...nice piece. That's interesting about the bezel glare and sunglasses.

Cheap Watch Tools - International Watchman
Toadtorrent replied to Toadtorrent's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Did you get an EMS tracking number from them? If so, you should be able to track the package from their site. -
I couldn't tell you...I'm still waiting for it...it's been a loooong time. Silix keep saying that his watchmaker says "it will be here in 2 more days". That was close to 1 month ago. When I get it, I will write a review and take some pix. Pix on the website look pretty close the gen. The Spitfire does not suffer from the crooked marker problem at 12-3-6-9 that the black pilot does which is nice. My ideal would be to have the Laureus caseback on the 3717-02...but that would be entirely inaccurate as the Laureus editions are all blue.
