  1. You are right. That is absolutely disgusting. I think you and all owners of such hideous timepieces should send them ALL to me for proper recycling where I will make sure they never see the light of day in front of another Paneristi again. Sincerely, Toad "It's Close Enough for Jazz" Torrent
  2. ...of course not. $100K watches are very good value...and Panerai especially as you get more kilograms/pounds of watch than a vintage Rolex.
  3. Go to Mexico, and you can get ciggies in your choice of around 10 different animal poops...nice!!!
  4. I would say they are not necessarily just for collectors. Have you ever priced an OEM SS Rolex bracelet, or looked at the difference in price between a leather strap IWC and the bracelet version? The premium is another $1000 just to UPGRADE...and the Rollie bracelets can be in the 4 digits. Check out the A. Lange & Sohne catalogue...you will see OEM straps an what not going for sickly amounts of money. Welcome to the world of reps.
  5. All right...HAH HAH. Just kidding. The first time I found that out years ago, I was so disappointed as you can't really see the smoothness of the second hand sweep given the small subdial. This is what we call "running seconds at 6" or "running seconds at 9" depending on your configuration...yours being the latter.
  6. Like Lady V said...there's a lot to consider. With research, you will learn about questions like: - What is the most accurate "x" out of the box? - What COULD be the most accurate "x" with thousands spent on mods? - What is the best I can SAFELY order in Europe given customs problems? - What is the best I can get if I'm really impatient and want quick communication and fast service but can pay a bit more? - What's the best I can get for the least amount of money? - Why RWG Supporter/VIP memberships provide such good value to people interested in reps... etc, etc, etc...and that's why it's not simple to answer some "general" questions. Stick around...research...and have fun.
  7. Very nice piece...I'm awaiting a 3717-02 Spitfire in white dial. I thought about the blue dial...but thought I'll have enough blue dials with an Omega and Cousteau Diver.
  8. Check out the new Breitling Superocean Heritage...slick at 46mm...double AR, ETA option, and it's a diver!
  9. Lady V has answered you in her post below...but "Seconds at six" refers to the second hand that continually runs, being located at the 6-o-clock position. A traditional movement may have it at 3-o-clock in a subdial arrangement that has subdials at 3-o-clock, 6-o-clock and 9-o-clock, or at 6, 9, and 12-o-clock with running seconds at 9-o-clock. To move the running seconds from 9-o-clock or 3-o-clock to the 6-o-clock position requires something like 13 gears as the Meister of Movements The Zigmeisterzumba has illustrated. The Chinese rep movements do not properly do this with jeweled gears resulting in an "over-worked" drive train to power that seconds at six, resulting in premature failure due to grinding gears.
  10. My understanding (though I haven't tried it yet) is, that you take the crappy strap and salvage the buckle...and transfer the buckle to any of the high quality after market straps out there...or buy OEM. Straps can be found through dealers listed in RWG (HKTan, V, etc) or others like The Strap Shop in the UK.
  11. That is something. Due to the font...I think these to be far more interesting to look at than the Pams. Spectacular!!
  12. If in doubt always assume either maids-a-milking or lords-a-leaping...
  13. Yeah...the shipping can be funny. You'll know if it's held by customs as they will send you a notice. I've found stuff delivered well before any update on the tracking sites is made. Nice piece. As to the pics...choose macro mode and natural light (no special lamps)...short of a macro mode...buy more reps to get more practice. HAH.
  14. I went looking at the watch...definitely gen...but it's CROCODILE not Alligator.
  15. Hah hah...you'll need to update the number weekly with your avatar...
  16. Clear polish will eventually wear off with use so not recommended in case of allergy. Do rock, ceramic and other watches have the same material for the caseback or is this SS with nickel in it?
  17. Hi folks, I used to think that that type of PM was rude...and I suppose I still do, but I'm finding the short and almost terse emails are often a product of a combination of language skill issues and a younger generation's mode of communication. I was brought up to try and be polite and clear and grateful for help, but often I'm finding younger folks who are used to instantaneous responses in a digital world based on texting, PM'ing, and email being integral to their lives at all hours...this type of "short" communication is considered more formal, while truncated, barely legible text'ing with 1 hand on a cell phone in "half sentences" is what is now considered casual. It may be a shift in social standards...like white and black tie for dinner being replaced by business casual and designer jeans. Is this sad decline in social standards? Yes...but maybe we need to get used to it...and we can try and promote our own sense of proper decorum through demonstration of our own actions.
  18. Yikes...couldn't do either...
  19. NICE!! I've got the exact same watch, but with solid links. They don't make bezels with that nice etched look anymore...
  20. Nice! The trip from Haines Junction in the Yukon to Haines Alaska is some of the most amazing country anywhere...and passing by the Chilkat Eagle Preserve was something else. Beautiful...and raining bald eagles during spawning season.
  21. Awesome...almost all my stuff is Hardwear. We give Hardwear gear away for Christmas...nothing brings a tear to my eye like Gore-Tex Proshell. Nice to see some real design stuff on this board instead of just Armani and Montblanc. HAH.
  22. And you should know!!! You're holding a Ziggi-lumed Cousteau Diver!!
  23. Stay away from RWG and this forum...it's far too time consuming, addictive and costly to your wallet. I came here looking for one watch...and now can't stop ordering new ones... The Panerai forums will have great Pnerai specific info...and the other areas for general rep info... Welcome and enjoy...
  24. Crap...then are you telling me the pills I bought on Fleabay are duds? I wonder if I can get a refund... Personally, I check out watches...just the same as I check out other technical gadgets I'm into. I couldn't really care less about what the macho level is of the person, or their station in life...I'm just interested in seeing great/ugly design out in the community. Big bling items like cars...I'm not really into, unless the demonstrate interesting design like a Porsche Carrera GT vs. Boxsters, 911s, Carrera-4s etc which I couldn't care less about as they are as common as Starbucks on an urban corner. I don't assume watches are fake or not based on the person, but what I see...as I've seen people making very low incomes stretch themselves out making payments they can't afford on Hummer H2s or Escalades, or bike couriers who make just above minimum wage IF they ride through rain and freezing weather everyday riding $10,000 bicycles. I've been around millionaire/billionaire types who eat powdered soup everyday for lunch as they think it's a waste to buy anything else for that meal...or don't wear shoes around the office as they don't want to wear them out. People who don't fit a "look" completely may well have the gen item if they are passionate about that item.
