Definitely an element of truth to that. I don't think I have ever had anyone notice a vintage on the wrist. Nice to see you back around here.

Got it. I have never detected a big difference in glow color. I got curious and just tested a couple of Ziggified reps versus gens and it looked identical or close to it. But I have no gens more recent than the F series. And some folks here had thought PAM had changed their lume mix on later models.
-
I think you are addressing the luminosity issue and it is a well known fact that C3 glows better than C1 or any whiter lume. And yes the man from the East has been telling us this for a while. On the basic color I always find the debate amusing. Panerai varies its basic lume color based on year and model. I have always wondered if it is on purpose or lack of consistency in their mixing.

Sorry, nope. You may end up having to find a dedicated forum on pocket watches and ask the question.

Unless he was lying to me on our last exchange anyone who is thinking they may want one over the long haul should think about it. According to him he had about 10-15 ss left.
-
I will see if I can find out what people are using. I believe it is a certain size of SS medical/surgical tubing. If you really want to get fancy pop off the crown of a gen and you will see that the tube actually has a lip which is what ensures the water tight fit.

On the Nautilus I thought it had to do with pins versus screws on the bracelet or how it joins into the case. I also thought the dial was a little different and the first "batch" had better brushing, etc. As we all know MBW is a job shop with good and less good batches. This is all coming second hand though as I have never owned the gen.

Anton, very nice to hear. IMHO, at the end of the day it is all about making friends and gaining horological knowledge. As you know it doesn't matter who buys what or who has what. It is all about sharing a passion for the hobby and going wherever that may take you.

I would add: - 28 and 29 2892/3 Honpo versions. Less than 100 pieces each and with significantly better dial and complete engraving on movement and spacer. Look at a Honpo 28 Dial and the hobnail is 100% better - Honpo 187 - Old case 196 and 188 with 7753 movement - 4rth gen Eddie Lee Fiddy - Josh 036 - 1st generation Breitling ti Chrono Avenger - Original MBW Nautilus - DW 6263 with functioning mysery movement - FM Conquistador with 2892 and proper date ring bezel But the true rarest are the Frankens and ones that take modding to a new level and get the watch as close to accurate as possible. I even collect based on prior ownership/modding. Palp's, Ubi's, RepAustria's, Madasboot vintages and of course Ziggified pieces. I enjoy watches with a history - rep or gen. A state of the art modded rep of the appropriate piece can even maintain or increase in value - at least in the current environment. And that is not always true of gens.

I know that it has been done both ways - filing and working with existing case tube and simply putting in new one. In reality a case tube can be any piece of ss tubing. Either way you will end up having to play with the case tube. If you have ever looked at the case tube on a gen or Jimmy case you will see that with the exception of some of the 7753 Daylights all rep cases have much smaller case tubes. Rep cases are built for the typical straight shaft rep crown. When you add the spring loaded mechanism on a gen you require a larger diameter hole. If you are unsure how to do it you should send it to someone who has. Ziggy has mounted virtually every automatic model. Not meant to be an advertisement - just a fact.

Anyone who is looking for RBJ can find him at RWI.
-
Please cease RBJ stories here. Suffice it to say he was banned here. You now have the contact info as requested.

I too hope it is yours but only if you bought it quite a while ago. IMHO, the current prices are crazy.

Roll call.. How many RWG members have a genuine Panerai?
Watchmeister replied to V's topic in The Panerai Area
Uncle Jay has just raised the bar and overall count into the stratosphere. On a smaller scale you are missing a 2 and 162 for me. -
Joe is no longer on this forum and it is no accident. A number of folks had issues with him. He can be reached at RWI - the dark side or his email (which I assume you have since you sent him the watch). We wish you the best of luck on recovering your watch but he is persona non grata here and not up for discussion.

Interesting how much I prefer the printing on the t dials irrespective of the number differences. I don't know why that is. I see the same thing when I compare the base black t versus l dial versions. Needless to say, fabulous dials.
-
The date window on both 7753 and A7750 versions are between 4 and 5 but they are different sizes and not in the exact same place so you will need a new dial. On everything else it will require some disassembly. Not to discourage you but if you still need to source a movement you will have to wait and see how much you can get one for. 7753's can be difficult to obtain and can cost hundreds of dollars.
-
You may also need to check out the movement spacer because they come in two types - one with shorter chrono pusher stem and built-in extenders (which you can't get out) and the other which requires longer stems in lieu of the extender. Finally, although I have never had it happen to me you would want to confirm that the date set pusher on the side of the case is functional. Usually it is and it is blocked off by a lack of a hole in the 7750 movement spacer.

I take it the question is answered and thanks for the financial support.

Beautiful watch man. You are now part of a two-member club -rep HBB with Swiss movement. Wear it well.

Do you remember when buying and selling watches was fun?
Watchmeister replied to chris5264's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, TZ and Watchnet have the same issues and there is a lot more money at stake. I also believe that it has gotten more difficult here as the prices have in general gotten higher and so the stakes are also higher. And you never know which buyer is buying on a lark or eating hot dogs for the next week to pay for that rep. -

Watchmeister replied to chris5264's topic in General Discussion
There will always be difficult people. And yes, when I do sell I try and dea with folks I know. But have you tried selling a gen on TZ or Watchnet? It is no different with the gens. And we won't even comment on the bay where more than half the offerings have some form of scam involved. So don't feel too bad. -
But not Bear Stearns, etc. I actually manage to stop by Wempe reasonably frequently and I would guess that more watches are going to Europeans buying their own goods cheaper over here than in Europe. It is pretty tough to pass on a 50% increase when your currency appreciates (or ours depreciates) like that.

On the relume and good skills with Rolex movements that is an easy one - go with Ziggy. PM me if you are looking for his info. He has done innumerable rep and gen rolexes including his own genuine 5508 and a number of other folk's priceless gen vintage rolexes. He is the only one who I know who can match lume to aged tritium both in terms of color/ aging and that incredibly vague glow - if you know what I mean. There are other skilled folks in Europe but for you it should be a no-brainer.
