  1. - I am not a buyer of the I could buy a nice gen instead theory. You can buy a nice gen for $75.00 that will keep far better time than a $7,000 gen. The problem is folks want a $7,000 watch without paying $7,000.
  2. Mine is not near that light a shade of grey nor were the sub dials that dark. But neither was the gen I was looking at in Tourneau. If that is a pic of the gen I was looking at a different variant. The recently issued dial is based on the 449 and it is true I can make it appear much lighter or darker depending on the viewing angle. The only way to tell is to hold them both at the same angle and viewing distance.
  3. Where is the nautical theme for comparison? Hey at least your wife notices. More importantly, that is a great looking rep. It is my current favorite submersible rep. Wear it well.
  4. Per usual, a very illuminating review. I don't think I have ever seen a datewheel with inner spokes. Is that common?
  5. I am using the hands that came with it. There is this myth that you can't use the same hands. Well, I can't but Ziggy can. There is no 7750 that he cannot adapt the original hands to work. And yes, they can be removed when it is time to service them.
  6. I went with Asian but am swapping movement and date wheels on my own. It is a lot cheaper and you know the movement that is going into it. But if not for the fact that I have a lot of 7750's for exactly this purpose I would order Asian version and service it.
  7. Do you simply want the parts without any work? I know he is not doing any work at the moment for the aforementioned reasons.
  8. Nice collection. Always enjoy seeing other people's mods.
  9. I am with Arch on that one. I took mine and went to the AD yesterday.
  10. Glad to see things are up and running again.
  11. I don't have pics and won't (it is off to Ziggy today for lume and movement swap) but I did receive it and walked down to the AD and stared at the gen in the case. The dial looks pretty much spot on. It is a little difficult to tell as they both have AR and (IMHO) the AR coat is what is noticeably different. The gen has a darker blue AR coat in certain lighting. I don;t know if this is optically possible but that is what I see. I know there was some complaining about the concentric circles in the sub-dials but I do have to say I could not see them on either the rep or the gen with normal eyesight. The sub-dials on both seem to catch the light in the same manner. So in short I can't say I would buy one to sell another but if you don't own one yet it is the one I would buy.
  12. Avitt- Truly a work of art. Much kudos for persevering. That is the fun of MBW's. You can keep making them better and better.
  13. I am sure it is painful but if he can afford the lawyer he will certainly get off (unless it is not his first offense ) . But to all here my strong advice is to ship whatever you buy if you insist on buying while abroad. Assuming the guy had no knowledge of the widespread availability of reps I am sympathetic. Anyone who does that around here should certainly know better.
  14. If you are worried about fires come to my neck of the woods. Concrete doesn't burn (at least not from chucking a cigarette butt)
  15. No. The new font looks more similar to stock ETA but it isn't.
  16. A fan of Breguet as well. Marine's are such classics. But the best part of a Marine is the bracelet. It is a work of art in itself.
  17. If I read correctly the pre-order implied that it was only one day in advance and so it may well be available right now. I did go for the Asian. But mine will have markers straightened if necessary, relumed and movement and day/date wheels swapped before it hits the wrist. I may be disappointed but so far I have been fairly impressed on the IWC's. If it were perfect it would be $6,000. My objective is to make it as good as it can be and properly serviced for about 10-15% of that. That is always my approach on reps. I try and buy fewer that I think I would like to keep for a long time and get them to 95% if possible. I did make the mistake of trying the gen on about a month ago. It wears under a business suit really nicely.
  18. I agree with Glitch. But somehow you inevitably end up with both and an empty wallet.
  19. I haven't looked at the rep closely as I don't own it. What I was wondering about is the strap holders on the case. Do they have the same corner bevel and combination of polish and brushed. I have seen the gen and the way they finish them is pretty cool..
  20. The question is are you trying to figure out whether it is a rep.
  21. If there was QC and a guarantee you would be paying $6,000 - not $500 or $800 for that matter. It looks like they did step up for glass on the back rather than plastic based on the description. I am really curious to see how well that lower chrono reset. and inner bezel mechanism works. It is very cool on the gen.
