Great stuff. I never knew any of this and owned both a 5512 and 13. Sold the 13 when I got the 12 though. In any case I just pulled mine out and sure enough there is the chapter ring I never noticed.

Does anyone else ever come up with a fantasy history to go along with a fantasy or franken watch? Well, if not I am the only 10 year old here. And here is one of mine: As many PAM fans know there are very few examples (only two I am aware of) of Pre-A 03's and both were with 6500 cases. Here is my fantasy 6502. Specs on this one include: - Gen 03 T-dial. Rumored to be stolen from the Panerai factory at the time Vendome was moving in. I didn't purchase it until 2002 though. This is one of 3 which I am aware of which came up with the dial completed but the tritium never applied - Gen T hands - Gen caseset and crystal (C or earlier series), crown guard and pre-V crown - Gorgeous caseback purchased from another esteemed member a couple of years ago; and last but not least: - First generation Dirks Panerai strap - softest I have ever had. Oh yes, and please ignore the bare feet. And the obligatory wrist shot:

IMHO, don't worry about it. If you are wearing it on your wrist you will have no problem. Now if it is a super crappy rep.....

Wow. fantastic work. You are going to sell a lot of these and the 1665. And you deserve it. you have really upped the ante.

The QR on the gen stinks as well. One of the dumbest ideas Panerai came up. One of the folks in my local boutique was telling me that is the number one reason why PAM's come in there for repair.

I am with Woof on this one. The 5513 is the baseline sub but the 5512 is the rare iconoclast and the true "McQueen" Rolex (the one he actually wore while racing). Own a '66 and will never let it go.

Nice comparison. and irrespective of the thread and shape differences the real difference for me is the skins. Whoever makes the straps for AP understands they are making a strap for a $25k watch and goes to the trouble to select the perfect horn back skin which always enables the strap to have at least two properly centered horns (if not three) running down the length of each side of the strap. It is a very expensive way to make straps as it restricts what skins can be used and how many straps can be made from a skin but it is the right way to do it for a haute horologie watch.

Fiddy, 28 and Pre-V are probably my big 3. The only two barrel movement I am jonesing for is the 372 but it isn't out yet. And yes, maybe a 3-barrel 8 day some day. I still have gen everything other than movement for the 233 on the off chance a gen movement ever comes my way.

Did you redo the CG's or do they come like that from TC?

Well, there are certainly plenty of people with plenty of PAM's. You just have to mention what you want and someone will have something to sell. Not that that helps your addiction.

I always pick one or two "swimmers" for the Summer. This year it is a 170 on bracelet and the Hublot Diver. The dial is so big on that Hublot you can read it underwater without goggles. The one thing you have to be careful withis the rubber piece on the setting crown. The glue the factory uses to sit it in the crown inevitably unsticks. I got lucky and it fell off outside the water. Say hello to crazy glue.

I have to agree the 372 is most likely the next Fiddy and a beautiful piece.

BK will get you 99% of the way there. The basic rep is really good and his tweaks will put you into Nirvana.
