  1. S No. I have never thinned out the caseback with an A7750 movement. I never got over the lack of offset pushers, etc. and that drove me directly to the LWO movement. i did it on the original MBW seconds at 9 version as well in spite of the fact its dimensions are closer to gen in the first place. My assumption (and it is an assumption) is that they made the caseback (as well as the case) thicker to fit the larger movement so removing the rotor would help. I have no idea how much you could thin out the caseback (if at all) if you don't remove the rotor.
  2. Very entertaining. How does it feel to be the "superior" gen owner.
  3. +1. The vast majority of people buy expensive watches simply because it is a status symbol......very simply put, look how well I have done. And there is nothing wrong with it. If there weren't gen luxury watches there wouldn't be reps. And we would have no fun.
  4. On mine I do shave down the caseback, also the bezel as the gen inner tachy ring is not as tall as the rep and the "interior" of the mid case to further lower the bezel gasket. Of course the key is the lower profile movement and tachy ring. With the original movement it is hard to make significant progress without removing the rotor.
  5. Don't know exactly what it is or what was done but that is a beautiful piece. Wear it well.
  6. Well, if you are unhappy with the inaccuracies you can man-up and buy the gen for $40k or pick-up a last generation gen dial available on the bay for $2k and build a franken for $5k. Personally I do think it is a big improvement. The last dial was so wrong.
  7. Wouldn't he better off doing more GP cases? I thought there is a waiting list for them. On the fantasy project when you have a moment I would suggest doing a little photoshop work so people can see what it might look like.
  8. This was entertaining. I read the first part of the post and was thinking I wish my orders always went so well. Then I get to the EMS part and all I can think is "welcome to the wonderful world of EMS". Packages go missing until you receive it or it is lost.
  9. Funny outcome. But we are still wondering about you and the wife.
  10. Not as far as I know. Standard operating procedure is to buy an EOD and strip it. It is only pvd.
  11. You are a sick boy. Genius, but still a sick boy.
  12. I managed to avoid Red Big Joe. But in truth we all owe him a big thank you. The Zigmeister was so incensed at the time I got him to do the very first Ziggy MBW'S for a fraction of the $750 RBJ used to charge. But to Palpatine's credit The Daytona seconds at 6 I got from him years and years avoids still running.
  13. I don't have any experience with Domi but would just say the following. In my experience AD's do take, at least, 8 weeks, typical gen watchsmiths in my neighborhood take 4-6 weeks so expecting 2 week turnaround is probably not realistic unless that is what the smith told you prior to sending in the piece. So folks should be patient. I would also say that any one who is sending in a piece to any watchsmith should ask what the realistic timing is. That way no one is disappointed - or if they are it is with good reason.
  14. +1. Certainly looked at it. It all starts with a movement and there are virtually no non-alarm stem wound movements available and I never got comfortable with the cover plate fix. And the more you study the more you find out that there are so many differences between the Panerai version and other Angelus 240 movements.
  15. Rep $600 (or whatever current coat is), base level franken starts at $3k, gen at $15k or so......it's all relative. For the non-obsessed that is an expensive 1.7mm.
  16. You need to have an experienced watchsmith who doesn't work for Rolex look at it. The movement may well be repairable. I have had an AP, Breitling and Vintage Rolex all with rust and water damage and my watchsmith was able to repair them. If that is the case it should be well under $1,000. If the movement really needs to be replaced than you should buy your own and the cost should still be less than half. I have gotten my best watch buys on watches in your YM's condition for exactly this reason.
  17. Maybe where you are located. In my country Rolo is drawing beautiful pictures.
  18. Just contact Toro. He is a good man. If the chrono portion doesn't work than it needs a repair.
  19. Rolo- Very nice work. For all you chomping at the bit this is months away with no certainty of when they will be available (or how they look) so relax.
