  1. It is a 217 CG. The question is why. Replacement mistake when sent for servicing, jury rigged franken? What you know is the 217 came several years after the 127 so it wasn't a mistake at original assembly. This happened years after. That crown guard didn't exist when the watch was originally sold.
  2. Would 217 or 127 be added to that list?
  3. +1. You are better off with the newer movement which actually has the jewel. As to how well it runs it will be the same potluck as any other Asian 7750. I tend to not service them until they need it but that is personal preference.
  4. I would still go for the V6. As an infrequent or new rep buyer and an inclinationnot to go through the modding hassle the V6 should be better out of the box rep.
  5. Looks like a lot of fun. Sorry to miss it. Great stuff guys.
  6. IMHO, yes on a PAM you bought 10 years ago for $3000 but not on an AP you theoretically bought for $25k two years ago.
  7. No you don't. It is one thing to keep the head itself from getting scratched. A whole bracelet would be a whole other level of pain.
  8. The standard 3714 (or whichever model is the standard Portuguese Chrono) has actually been very popular for 20 years or so. It is just old. It is the IWC watch of choice as I have noticed in the EU over a number of years. More Chairman and CEO's seem to wear that than anything else from IWC. Frankly, it seems to be more popular than the Pilot series over there. At this point the issue is how many additional sales can be made after 100 different editions. The 7 day Portuguese was invented to charge more and sell more.
  9. With the beat rate different and some upgrades to the higher beat version I believe it has a different size hour wheel but THAT iS A GUESS!
  10. Haven't seen one either. I always assumed it is because it wasn't that popular in gen form and the clear caseback makes it much less appealing than the Big Pilot with the closed caseback. IMHO go for the big pilot....I know they are very different but at least you can plausibly pretend there is a 7 or 8 day movement.
  11. As Sgt. suggests either be patient or alert him you are not going to be but then you have to be willing to accept the refund and you will likely never do business with him again.
  12. Very pretty. Wear that one well.
  13. Welcome back (comng from Kruzer from the old days).
  14. Unfortunately I am out of town this weekend so I will have to miss it. But I will be thinking of you guys. have a ball.
  15. I haven't seen tha latest Jumbo ( assuming that is the 38mm size). Still have an MBW with the dotted line blue dial and an ETA with gold rotor. Case is fairly good (I do have a similarly sized two tone gen) but the date placement is off and of course the movement is the movement......not an AP. It is a much smaller watch though. I wear the Offshore for daily wear and the automatic royal oaks only get worn for formal or "cuff link" occasions. It is a much smaller watch...elegant but frankly no real presence other than the general form. My 2 cents.
  16. If I had to have one only.....that would be it. Wear yours well.
  17. Thoroughly enjoyable read. I share your love of AP. I saw my first AP Royal Oak on the wrist of a man I admired in the late 70's. By 1990 I had bought my first Royal Oak and have never looked back. Bravo to AP, the first brand to take an iconic design and make innumerable versions and sizes. And unlike certain other brands....still timeless.
  18. Very nice work. I like the patina - really gives the watch some character.
