  1. I wandered by an AD's window the other day while wearing one. Now I didn't step in and have him pull it out of the window however I would swear that the date and date window are a different size on the rep versus gen. It wouldn't be surprising as the gen actually has a non ETA co-axial movement. I would assume this is a pretty obvious flaw (more so than a slightly crooked logo) so I am wondering if it is just my eyes, the angle of the watch in the window or whatever. Anyone with a gen have any comments?
  2. PAMan is right. If it winds as if there was no lever when it is closed look to see if the lever contacts the crown when it is closed. There is nothing more infuriating than "floppy" lever.
  3. Congrats. Just remember, you are not getting older. You are getting better.
  4. I did catch up with Mark yesterday and he is on the road to recovery. Beyond a horrific virus he injured his back pretty badly and has been layed up in bed with a slipped disk unable to sit for quite a while. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
  5. I can answer that one. You source your own movements. You can find them on the bay or with typical suppliers. I now buy fewer reps and then upgrade those reps which I think are keepers after I have received the watch. Cost of the movements is from $150 to $250. Ziggy will tell you what he charges for the movement swap. I would also add that I even do it on reps that come with a Swiss version. It tends to be substantially less costly, you know that the movement is in good shape, a watch at that price mostl likely deserves a relume and the watch is properly sealed and serviced by a trusted watchsmith rather than some bored person in a factory.
  6. After two weeks I suspect it is your problem. I would try and contact Ziggy. He knows these Asian movements cold.
  7. There are probably numerous ways to do it but here is how I keep all my bookmarks updated on several computers: Go to Bookmarks on the old computer Click on "Organize" Bookmarks Then under the File category click on "Export" Remember where you export it to. Then attach that file to an email and send it as an attachement on an email to yourself on an internet based email system Save the attatchment bookmark file on your new computer Import onto the browser on you new computer
  8. It is based on the 7750. Yellomen is selling a movement with this type of module: http://www.rwg.cc/members/swiss-7750-with-module-t24282.html This is ETA's substitute for the 7753 which they are rapidly phasing out.
  9. The gen is based on a 7750 with a specific module (I can't remember the number). Yellomen was selling one somewhere. To convert to Swiss it should only require retaining the few Asian gears that allow the movement of the date. It has been done with the PAM 196. You won't get the exact spacing between date wheel and dial as the gen but it will be very close. When I do finally give in and buy this one (or when they get the back right on the ceramic - whichever comes first) I am planning on doing the conversion.
  10. Wrong date font. What if you're initials aren't GPW? Actually, it is a nice watch but this has always been the case. You can buy any number of gens for the price of a number of the better reps. It is pretty tough to argue against an Orange Monster for $200.
  11. Given that you have done it with the Asian 7750 PAM 196 I suspect it will be very doable. Besides I would never vote against you when it comes to horological matters.
  12. I think I would chill out on trying to discuss this in public. Let the administration reveal it when it is fully baked. The same guy who started the problem is still actively participating on this forum and everyone knows it.
  13. I think that request falls into the "secret sauce" category. More importantly it varies by watch and hand hole size differential. The "new Asian 7750 28800bph" is not one movement. It is made by at least three different factories so it will depend on the watch and who made the movement. I am with you on the upgrade concept. When I heard from Ziggy that any 7750 can be upgraded I picked up a dozen 7750's for a good price and over time will have Ziggy selectively upgrade my dozen or so favorite watches.
  14. I am not a watchsmith (nor do I play one on TV) but I recall having this conversation with both Mark and the largest ETA parts supplier in the UK before deciding which version I required. What I was told is that they are available in two versions and for a good reason. The stock 2892/GMT version comes with teeth sticking down. On the power reserve ETA had to change-up the date wheel as the required module reduced the amount of clearance. In order to deal with that ETA made a second version of the date wheel with "flat" teeth in order for it to fit. In point of fact I have two of both versions on the way from Mark and will see whether it actually works out that way. But that is what the suppier said. Finally, given the mixed results I am wondering if some of the movements in our reps are either very old or odd combinations (bastardized ebauche concoctions) of the two types of 289_ movements.
  15. Now that is a stunning lume job. It stands up to a billionx scrutiny. Which is more than I can say for some of my gens.
  16. Wow! Per usual, the work is stunning and as is occasionally the case I am the fortunate beneficiary on the EVO and the Pilot. Let this finally put to bed the myth of not being able to swap Swiss for the newer Asian 7750's. It just requires a skilled watchsmith.
  17. For all the wonderful Breitling reps that have come out over the last 18 months my favorite is still the early Chrono Avenger. Here is the original Josh ti (open 4, good pearl, stunning AR, etc, etc.) This one has a swiss movement, original dial and Ziggy relume. As always, many thanks to the Master. Apologies for the lume shot but you get the idea: The watch has stunning wrist presence:
  18. When properly serviced it is a great workhorse movement. When you buy new the question is really what you are getting. Today many suppliers sell "Swiss 7750" and true vaccuum packed swiss version for twice that amount. For that reason I prefer to buy old movements and service them. That way I know where they were made and who assembled them.
  19. Then pay up. No offense to the inital poster but if we don't let non-paying modify their posts why would we let them start one?
  20. Actually, the renewal of vows is more impressive than the initial wedding. Just ask my third wife.
