  1. Enjoy it. It is a really nice watch. As the owner of one who has learned the hard way let me pass on one piece of advice - do not over polish those bezel markers. They are copper with a thin coating of chrome. I learned the hard way.
  2. I am not sure that is fair either. Even if you follow the profit motive to its logical conclusion I think you will find that it can pay to be truthful. If I have bought a number of watches from a dealer and he knows that if he lies I go elsewhere he may be more inclined to be truthful. Or at least less dishonest.
  3. IMHO, everyone here is wasting their breath (typing fingers actually) unless people here want to organize a boycott of dealers you feel are being dishonest. You guys go for it. Maybe it will work. In the meantime I will keep buying my watches from my trusted dealers - irrespective of what they write. IMHO, here is the funniest part of this loop. Although Pug is raising an issue in the context of trying to improve and protect our community and I respect that, the whole topic is hypocritical. We are all buying illegal goods or at least participating in the theft of intellectual property (at least in most of the countries where forum members live). Bad news guys - unless you have not bought a watch - YOU ARE DISHONEST. Oh, yeah, me too. By the way do you think the folks from whom we steal their intellectual property give a rat's ass whether the dealer's description is accurate. I don't think so. So for all of you guys who find the descriptions to be morally repugnant - stop buying from those dealers. Or you are a hypocrite as well as dishonest? This loop is too much fun....Life isn't black and white, its gray. And so are the watch descriptions.
  4. Well my Breitling from Josh has great AR. Maybe they read these posts. On buying weed and receiving oregano, ever buy weed over the web from China? I suspect they will get away with it. And can you put him in legal trouble for selling oregano?
  5. For anyone who thinks it is not crazy, put your money where your mouth is. There is still time left.
  6. Do you really think gen items are that much better when they advertise? Does Breguet or Patek advertise that their watches have a tendency to break down more often than Seiko? Or that it will cost you $1,000 to walk in the door of the AD for any repair no matter how modest? And if you own them you know this is true. If you only bought from "truthful" people under the aforementioned definition you would be living in a shack which you built out of sticks and eating berries. I love this thread. It comes up every few months. Perhaps it would have some effect if we on the forum were the only buyers or we were such a large portion of the demand that they had to listen. And I take Neil's point, half the time dealers are taking the factory description. Unlike many here, I am satified with the status quo and focus more on having honest relationships with the dealers themselves who are trustworthy. And lest you forget the unwashed masses who believe all this stuff are subsidizing our habit. Someone has to overpay for stuff. You won't if you do your homework. I say this in jest but there is some truth to this.
  7. You are absolutely right. I mixed up models. The non-chrono with gold bezel comes with a 288 number. On the straps they come with rubber and leather. I don't know if they make black leather but here is a boxed set: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Mens-Roger-D...tem160075406755 Oh well.
  8. Information is better with several dealers with published prices. But I do find I am just as likely to get a good price from one who doesn' t list prices as one who does. Take advertising for what it is - advertising. And ask your dealer whatever questions you have. They do answer truthfully. Would you buy a gen without asking questions?
  9. No guts no glory, just kidding. I understand. That is why I am holding off for a while - the mystery of the movement.
  10. And this is my 24A: I haven't had the nerve to do it but I believe Finepics may take a shot at removing the rings. I agree with Cuke, the 243 is better. Haven't modded it yet but it is going for "Tritium" relume as above, polished bezel markers and better date font when it is all sorted out.
  11. Is there a black version or only carbon dial? I have noticed that the Champagne dial on the gen is the standard. On the white and pink I am concerned that the hands have the FM issue of "blued" hands looking way off. Not that anyone would notice, but I would.
  12. Oh I know. You have so many fabulous PAM's. Now we have to take it to the next level. I am actually contemplating having my tailor making me a batch of shirts with enlarged left sleeve for the ultimate in subtlety.
  13. Sh-t happens. If it makes you feel better, it happens on gens too. I suspect you will have this rectified in short order.
  14. How about the new LG Prada phone with strong similarity to Apple iPhone? On the HBB looks good but I prefer the ceramic bezel and ss case.
  15. Looks significantly better than last brown version. What I can never tell on more sophisticated dials is how the color and finish matches up. The anthracite on the gen is very cool looking. This may be just as good but I can't tell from the pictures.
  16. Mike- Looks great. Have you tried the chrono yet?
  17. You guys ever watch infomercials or read some of the ridiculous advertisements in your newspaper? "Want to lose 20 pounds in 3 5 days?" Our product can erase off of your face.", etc. And this type of advertising is for legal items. IMHO, this is no different. Here and at TRC we actually have some accountability as long as folks continue to review what they receive or write about particularly bad products or service. Would it be nice if everyone gave a 100% description? Yes. But I don't view this as widespread abuse by any means. Irrespective of better and worse descriptions or inaccuracies by dealers this forum is ultimately what makes our whole obsession work reasonably well irrespective of what is written. We tolerate the white lies because irrespective of what is written our dealers are fundamentally honest and provide better service than many folks selling legal items and because we have the fabulous safety net called RWI. We all forget about the Global Swiss Replicas of the World. How many black market items can you comparatively price and form a forum to promote the "sport" and help and protect the membership? One last point, there is nothing to stop us from PM'ing or emailing any dealer before we buy. With perhaps one exception I am sure you will get an honest answer. Besides the detective work makes the whole thing more fun.
  18. Robert- Are you going to pick one up? I see myself sliding down that slippery slope.
  19. Sorry if my post was confusing. The current Easy Diver Chrono is manual and uses the Lemania/Patek movement. It already has or will be discontinued. There are actually only 280 in the series - not 888 or whatever is written on the back of the rep. Apparently there will be a new chrono version but it will be automatic.
  20. And mine are on their second generation of mods. But how many people can say they have a properly working DW?
  21. Perhaps you could bring a few with you on your next trip.
