  1. TT- You have a good point. And if you guys are really willing to deal with it I applaud you. But we all remember that less than 18 months ago we were dependent on photobuckets and no description (except for Paul ). From a personal perspective I am also struggling with the interesting fact that the dealer(s) in question are folks with whom I have had numerous transactions with. Of those transaction two had minor problems which were quickly rectified. And by the way, all my watches go out to Ziggy shortly after receipt so I know what is going on inside.
  2. I went away for a couple of days. Return to see the loop is up to 25 pages. And my own conclusion is the following: As someone else said, it is not the forum's responsibility to try and save all rep buyers from dealers' falsehoods or bad descriptions outside this forum. But, to the extent that any dealer posts something within the forum market sections which is blatantly false and it is pointed out by a number of folks, the description should be amended by the dealer or the item removed. Obviously, whatever dealers post on their sites is their business. If you don't like it, don't buy from them. I also have a more general concern irrespective of the descriptions issue. As the aesthetics of reps get better, ETA movements begin to evaporate, and rep makers actually specify unique movements to put the date wheel or sub-dial in the right place (which may or may not be well put together), the quality of the reps is going to only get more varied. There are going to be some real busts as evidenced in that B&R. With that in mind it becomes all the more important that we vigilantly continue to post reviews on the new watches. As for whether the dealers in question ever respond, I don't really care. It certainly will make me ask additional questions before buying though. Finally, I do applaud Neil trying to make the record straight. I don't forget that he was the first to suggest and adhere to complete descriptions.
  3. She looks beautiful. If you can't wait until she goes to sleep go with infant dosage of Benadryl or cough syrup.
  4. I think I would go with Angus'. He seems to have the latest generation.
  5. Ubi- You can always put it on your credit card.
  6. Standard operating procedure for PAM is to post the prototype and not the actual version produced. Rep manufacturers rush off to make a copy before the actual version is out. Look at the 243. The Panerai catalog shows a plain He valve. The 243's actually produced have He engraved on them.
  7. Neil- Why do you say Admin has dealers? I thought the idea was that there were a finite number of dealers and a dealer remained until it was clear they are blatantly taking advantage of the forum in which case they get tossed. I also thought all dealers pay the same fees.
  8. CPT390- Please post pics when you receive. I have always loved that watch but was concerned about the dial and the caseback. I prefer the contrast as well and it is unusual for me as I normally don't on the black faces.
  9. It is a great piece. I am convinced the value of the gold is fairly close to the cost of the rep.
  10. I think you guys are dreaming. But I would love to be proven wrong.
  11. Can someone confirm that the new gen straps no longer have the one stitch on the underside and are just a continuos loop. Or does this one have it and I can't see it. If this is the case I am in for a couple of deployant straps - no buckles though. Somehow I have 10 of them laying around.
  12. Actually certain dealers may be hanging him in up in effigy.
  13. The dealer should replace it.
  14. In fairness, they haven't covered up. They just haven't responded. Well, you are soon going to know whether they care.
  15. Now we are coming to an interesting point. There really is nothing else to say until other dealers weigh in, if they do. I suspect there may be a correlation between how dependent the dealer is on this forum and their willingness to join the frey. The other interesting question is whether folks are now avoiding these dealers or simply relying on their "personal realtionship" to feel comfortable making the purchase. After all, money talks and bull___ walks. And no, I am not calling for a boycott - just asking the question.
  16. Actually, it is not that the movement has gotten better. It is just that the movement has poor quality control in assembly. Those that were put together well are very reliable. Many folks (myself included) had to return the first one we received and the second one was great. Also the very first few sold came with the wrong hands because they were sold before the genuine was produced.
  17. Just replace with Davidsen's crown. But it is true that some have much better threads than others. I vote for old school - the G provided you can find the right movement. The original ones came with very first bridge plates (like the 036) when the gen came with the engraved second gen (predecessor to the Cotes de Geneve look on current models).
  18. What was the issue? I can't promise but I would swear I have tried the bracelet on about all my Panerai reps. Never had a problem. I do have the newer two button release though. Perhaps the hook up into the case is different on that one.
