I have to admit that it does feel like you are wearing a bowling ball (duck pins - not candlepins) on your wrist. But people take one look at it and start talking to you. Even the teenagers on the subway who say it is bling blingiful. A small price to pay to impress the kids. Although I have to admit that your wrist starts to remind you of Flav-a-Flav's wrist.

will the new pams make it confusing for the gen forums?
Watchmeister replied to chris5264's topic in General Discussion
Ignorance is bliss. -
That has been the rumor. My fingers are crossed for those who are lusting after it. I have had mine now for a couple of weeks now (read as "I was desperate enough to pay any price") and I love it. That armor plated clicking bezel is the sh_t.

2006 Daylights. They changed up the dial. I prefer having numbers for hour markers though.

Is the Swan neck version really out of production? Wow, with the old case 7753 Daylights no longer made and 187's still difficult to get this rep game is getting more difficult (read more fun). I guess we now own reps which are rarer than the gens. What a great hobby! Someting tells me I should pick up one of those Destro's

thinking of pulling the trigger....

PO first. Ti Chrono is too good. If you start with the rep, I suspect you will buy a different Gen Breitling. The Ti Chrono Avenger is the one Breitling rep that is that good. -
Bummer.

I have Ziggy doing mine. He has removed and replaced cyclops in the past for me.

jkerouac is right. I think the average price for an apartment of any size in Manhattan is about $1.2 million. My home has theoretically almost doubled in 2 1/2 years. But since I have no place to go it is completely irrelevant. The one downside to this appreciation is that to the extent you live in an area with property taxes it gives the authorities an excuse to increase property taxes.
-
The whole project was started over frustration with the 2893 cyclops. The way we approached this is that these cyclops should be a major upgrade to any watch with the typical substandard magnification cyclops. Imagine being able to actually read the date.

I would hold off. But not just because the crowns may not be great. None of us have heard from Palpatine for almost a month. We all believe he will return when he recovers from the loss of a family member. But until then a number of us are waiting to hear about watches and parts.

Not a good sign. I look forward to the pictures. Can these ones be reworked by eliminating .1 mm on each side since they are 2.1 versus 1.9 gen or is that hopeless?

DW - How come everyone picks the black dial?
Watchmeister replied to Watchmeister's topic in General Discussion
Ubiquitous- You know the answer to this question. Is the black dial any more accurate than the white or is it simply personal preference. I have so many black chronos I am tempted by the white. But since I only want to own one DW vintage, I would like get it right. On this one I am partial to the white dial as well. -
Pam 029/063 - 2893 no longer being produced
Watchmeister replied to Richard Tracy's topic in General Discussion
On the 2893 and dealers, they should all be the same. As I recall, the 2893's came out of the same factory. The very first batch of GMT's with ribbed dial had hand clearance issues. For whatever reason, the Power Reserves have remained more expensive than the GMT's. On the PR's, plain black dial goes with SS finish. Hobnail dial belongs with PVD case. -
I am contemplating the purchase of a DW. I notice that 95% of the ones shown on the forum are black dial. Is that because the dials are more accurate or simply personal preference? And as long as I am asking noobish questions, which movement allows for the proper dial and pusher placement on the 116520 (actually whichever contemporary model has the running seconds at 9 o'clock)? Every time I am ready to pull the trigger, I get gun shy. This Daytona thing is complex. The MBW vintage is much more straight forward in terms of what to buy and what the priority mods are.

Don't we all.

Oops, I missed this one. Looks like a great project. That's okay though. I will pick up Veni's when he gets tired of it. That's how I got my MF 1942.

admin- I think you are confusing 2836 GMT with 2893. 2893 GMT's and Power Reserves have original movement aand all the functions as well. My GMT's will get new cyclops and hopefully a datewheel when they are produced. Now if I can only find out what is going on with the case on my Power Reserve (with Palp for PVD treatment), I would be all set. -
It's true in many areas. In Toronto my brother-in-law is a developer and he says the same thing. They have a single family house similar to yours in terms of being on one of the big ravines in the city and I think it has had similar appreciation. He says even houses well outside Toronto (he builds large suburban and exurban housing developments) have increased dramatically. And it certainly makes sense in Canada where a large portion of the GDP is resource based. We all should own an oil well or copper mine in the current commodity environment. New York has had similar appreciation. Although the lead times on sales have increased. The bidding wars here are now the exception rather than the norm. Of course it is all irrelevant if you are not a seller. We will see what increases in real long term rates bring. In the U.S. if I had a property for sale I would be a seller right now.

Not so new there but new here
Watchmeister replied to whatmeworry?'s topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Welcome to the "bright side". Now here is a piece of trivia. The original Alfred E. Neuman picture from Mad Magazine was copied from a shingle which was hanging outside a dentist's shop in the 1930's. See, you learn something relevant here everyday. -
Newbie Here Just bought Breitling Avenger
Watchmeister replied to premiumdesigners's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Actually, if it really has a Swiss 7750 movement you didn't do too badly. Have fun and nice to add another member who is obviously interested in upscale collecting. This the place to be. Just try not to buy too much to fast. Then again, I used to say that before I ignored my own advice. -
Hi Pho- Nice to see you back.

Pam 029/063 - 2893 no longer being produced
Watchmeister replied to Richard Tracy's topic in General Discussion
IMHO, in spite of its production ending I would be surprised to see anyone making a big profit on the watch on a seconday sale. After all, most gens under $20,000 decline in value quite a bit the minute they are no longer new. I think it has more to do with who is producing. I have heard that there are basically two main factories for higher end PAM's with CNC capability and they actually coordinate so that they are not in direct competition. That is why the 7753 based 196 is still produced but at a different factory and with very different specs (read more cost efficient). The second factory fixed the dials but cheaped out on everything else. I do agree that the automatic ETA's will become rarer but I am not planning on making a lot of money on them. The other interesting thing I noticed was that on the 2893 GMT's and the 187, Watchonpo was the party that initiated production of those items. Watchonpo was selling the 2893's 3 months before anyone else was. Same is true on the 187. Although some of us are drooling over the 187 now, its first run of 100 pieces was 2-3 months ago. We just didn't see any. I am wondering if any other dealers or wholesalers are large enough or have a large enough "wealthy" client base outside of Japan to do the same thing. We do already see some of our dealers getting the factories to tweak some of their existing models (AR coat, crystal, etc.). My interest does always arise whenever I see an ETA based (if possible) individually numbered edition. Then again, I also could have bought a gen or two this year. -
Practically speaking, other than adding a little engraving to the sides of the case on certain models, recreating a couple of vintages, and tweaking a few dials (daylights. Arktos, etc.) the only watches which are really different are the 8 day movement based GMT (whose Power Reserve section looks pretty darn ugly) and the Ferarri 8 day which does look like the dashboard of a Ferarri. I can't believe they now call the Arktos the "North Pole". Well, maybe Santa will like it. I also don't like the loss of the actual numbers on the Daylights. Other than the 8 day movement, I am not particularly impressed.

Is the sub dial spacing on the Watchonpo actually correct? Is Eddie Lee's as well?
