  1. Unfortunately there is no dilemma on your side. It is on his. His listing is clear as day. He lives in one country and anyone buying outside that country takes the risk. You can't blame him for insuring it for $30 if you didn't tell him to do otherwise. He is not a mindreader and most people list watches for less than the actual value for lots of reasons - trying to fly under the radar screen to avoid seizure, avoiding VAT or whatever. In that situation, if I were the seller, I would probably offer to split the loss with you but he has no obligation. And no mod is going to rake him over the coals, He didn't do anything wrong,. Not what you want to hear but......take away the appropriate moral of the story. Think long and hard before buying from another country and if you dobuy from someone who is experienced as well.
  2. That is a great upgrade. Congrats. I agree that gen straps really dress a good rep up. And now that you have one you probably see the difference between an AP Hornback and anyone else's. There strap maker goes to the trouble to cut the right part of the hide so you get a glimpse of the ridge even in the last third of strap and then the unique rubberized finish on the sides. No other maker goes that extra yard. Of course they aren't getting $550 per strap.
  3. About a 100x better for Pre-V. There is nothing else even vaguely close.
  4. Domestically (and as a U.S. citizen) I never give it a thought. Didn't I once bring a bunch to show you? It is not illegal to own reps (or even buy them). But just out of convenience I carry no more than three - one on the wrist and two in a nice casein my carry on. And I never give it a thought whether they are rep or gen. Traveling abroad I have always gone with the same number. I have had the case pulled a couple of times by inspectors in foreign countries but in a nice case it has always lead to a nice discussion about watches.
  5. Holy cow.! Great to see you back. You've been gone so long I changed my name - Kruzer
  6. That chrono is incredible. I just keep coming back and staring.
  7. I have to agree. The biggest improvement on the movement is those ETA gears. I have never seen a Noob movement in the flesh but the other thing I quickly notice on your 127 are the jewels. One of the first things I always notice on the gen movements is the way the rhodium in the jewel seats just sparkles on the gen and it appears to be the case here. Great stuff.
  8. I stay away from gold reps as well. I have always wanted to try a gold on PVD watch as they are supposed to be more resilient to wear but I have no faith on plating. I have no idea who the dealer you mention is but I can't recommend ordering from a dealer who is not approved on one of the forums.
  9. if you have another buyer don't wait for his response. Just refund his money and sell it elsewhere. That guy is a psycho and will never be happy. If I were in your shoes I would mention who the buyer is (forum name not personal details). That way folks will know not to deal with him.
  10. I have never understood the end link obsession on vintage watches. All the gens I have ever had had totally mashed up end links and they were the ones worth the most as they were untouched (never fixed).
  11. Love it. But I gotta say that I would pay money to see you Dave driving around in that beauty with one of the bling bling SA's.
  12. His words are abusive but you have to think before you speak. Don't offer next day or any shipping date unless you know you are going to do it. You don't know him and more importantly he (who has sent you the money) doesn't know you. My advice would be to refund the money and resell the box telling the new buyer what the real shipping expectations are upfront. Money in the hand means it is your responsibility. I take it the other guy still hasn't paid and until he does you don't know if he ever will.
  13. Pre-A 03. One of the several unfinished dials "stolen" out of the back room when Panerai was being transferred to Vendome.
  14. Always loved that watch and the original 4mm. Too big for my wrist but looks good on yours. Wear it well.
  15. I don't care who it is. I wouldn't mess around with a butchered CG. What is the point?
  16. Very nice little tweak. That is one sick watch. Wear it well.
  17. very pretty watch. Unfortunately it is impossible to get a good case at any price and if you were to build Daytona's watch at current part prices you would be at the same price as gen.
  18. Very nice piece. I too am partial to the PAV.
  19. My turn, when I graduated high school I got a new Rolex sub as a gift. I had no idea at the time, as that was the only Rolex sport model with a date, that that red lettering would make it special.
