  1. So give him a fake one anyway and see what happens.
  2. As far as I know all the better ones are the wrong size (42 vs 40mm) so they have always been a non-starter for most. If there is a new version out someone else please chime in. I have always been hopeful that the Noob factory would put one out but not yet.
  3. Unfortunately, new IWC projects will continue to slow down. In the last month or two IWC has smartened up and put significantly more restrictions on allowing parts to flow outside of their AD system - just like Panerai.
  4. Another welcome to RWG. Have fun. Find what you like. Read the reviews and reach out to one of the trustees dealers who carries that particular watch. Think of it as "one stop shop". And I suspect you will find that doing the research and discussing with other members is half the fun. Although there is no better feeling than getting that package from China.
  5. I am too lazy to re-read this thread but if it hasn't been already suggested I would probably add the Hublot Diver. The weight is off due to substituting ss for TI on the inner body but aesthetically it is a truly great rep. Other than to an AD I would wear that watch anywhere. I ran into a guy wearing a gen at a polo type event (what better place). He had a slightly different version but we looked at each others wrists pretty closely and his only comment was "nice to see another member of the club". He had the carbon fiber version and I can't imagine what he paid for his. So I nominate that one (if it hasn't been already).
  6. if you really want a franken with more than a gen dial and hands I would suggest saving up for a second hand gen. They trade at a steep discount to new and not far from the cost of a franken. and this is coming from a guy who built one.
  7. It would be interesting to see additional pics. Now I am curious. I could see it if markers looked more uniformly off but can't envision top half aligned and bottom half misaligned. I have seen weirder but am curious. I know Toro sells these pieces so he would know.
  8. Big congrats to the winner. Life is full of surprises.
  9. Exactly. But I agree. Always start with your PayPal account log-in and work from there.
  10. The Hublot is definitely my Summer swimmer. Everyone loves it. I have gotten twice as Monday nice watch comments on that than my gen or franken AP's. It is the summer "baller" watch. I just wish I was a baller.
  11. Totally agree. Don't take that one. Ain't no amount of lume that is going to fix that mis-alignment. That is the first one I have seen that is "half right " and half wrong.
  12. It is a great rep. I am surprised at the level of interest as well. Isn't a second hand gen under$1500? If I was into Ebel I would be saving up for a gen.
  13. The screw or the "blade cut" in the screw? On the inner bezel alignment if you are unhappy just ask for a different one and be patient.
  14. Looks great. That is one to wear proudly. The S class of the Rolex line.
  15. When people say screws are in the wrong direction what are they referring to? if the complaint is that the screws don't have a properly centered cut I understand that. I have never understood why the cuts aren't perfectly centered. That is not rocket science. On the level screws (above or below the rim of the bezel) it cuts both ways on the gens. They are not all at the same level as it depends how much the smith tightened the screws to ensure sealing out the elements. Although I do have to say that most in the boutique start with the screws slightly below the bezel plane. I always assumed it was to protect the white good screws which are obviously softer than the SS.
  16. The traditional Offshore and the Diver are the same 42mm. I have tried on both gens at the boutique. The only ones that are 44mm are the newer models with the clear caseback - Grand Prix, etc. And by the way in the real world the gen Diver is 13.8 vs. 14.3 for the ROO Chrono so it is a fairly de-minimus difference. It is just that the rep has to be closer to 17mm (or whatever it is) to fit the 7750 movement.
  17. Happy Anniversary. The funny thing is you are such a fixture I always assumed you have been here since the forum went online. I never look at the joined line.
  18. It has to be. They are both sandblasted. I suppose it is possible that they can do a deeper blast but a scratch is a scratch and the only way to fix it is redoing the entire surface.
  19. I own and love the CP but if you are a noob to AP's I do have to warn you that they are scratch magnets and you can't repair them without getting someone to re- sand blast wherever the damage is. I do still swear by it as my favorite AP rep. The ti ROO's wear much lighter than the SS version.
  20. Great review. And a truly outstanding rep. On the bezel screws and the lack of uniformity of height on the rep- no worries. The minute an AP goes in for a service those screws are never level again - even at AP service center.
  21. It is the right overall dimension. And the Grand Prix's are a special edition and retail at 45k in gold or higher in platnum. The date and the offset pushers relates to the fact that the gen uses a chrono module on top of a base movement. As a result the crown sits below the pushers. The 7750's are a unified movement so the pushers and crown line up. On the date it is simply that the date is placed a little differently on a 7750 rather than on the gen or equivalent LWO 283 ETA movement. Both the gen and the LWO 283 use the same DD chrono module. The ETA version uses a 2892 as the base.
  22. CP is gorgeous but it does scratch fairly easily and you will have to live with it. You can't just polish or rebrush out the scratch. It is sandblasted. Having said that I own it and love it.
  23. I prefer chronos as well and as of yet have not succumbed to the Diver. I jus feel that there are so many wonderful dials available for the Offshore and I can't get excited about another black dial watch.
  24. What is cool about this watch is that there now are true carbon parts available. However you will never be able to make the movement look like gen and it is a clear caseback. There are the usual lack of offset pushers, date depth and overall case thickness issues but that is true with every AP seconds at 12 chrono. Also bear in mind it is 44mm versus the standard 42mm Offshore. having said all that it is a gorgeous watch.
  25. Look closely and you will see that all the date placements are not visually the same. You are correct that you can't move the location of the date on the dial but some of the newer models use a steeper inner tachy ring so that it overlaps the outside of the dial less. Optically it makes the date look like it is positioned better. Think of it as an optical illusion.
