  1. Looks great. Congratulations! That is a must mod.
  2. as someone else said you are actually banned for a month, In truth you did violate their rules (and frankly ours too if the same happened here) trying to sell a watch outside of the for sale forum. The difference is that you would receive a warning here and have the opportunity to rectify the situation. It sounds like you caught a mod on a bad day and he decided to simply ban you. The funny part is he posted in the thread chastising you and letting you know you were being banned. Of course he was writing this to someone who can't read it since you were banned.
  3. I saw that one. I was surprised as well. Remember forums are not a democracy. Staff can do whatever they feel like - more so on some forums versus others. But so can you. if you feel it was wrong and/or don't like how it operates than don't participate.
  4. This may be a silly question as I have never looked closely at the rep pusher but are you taking off the rubber cap to grind down the metal and then the rubber automatically conforms to the new rounded edge or is the rubber that thick?
  5. Wow, blast from the past. Great to see you back. (kruzer from the old days. )
  6. Too funny. You were watching an infomercial where folks make up whatever they need to to sell their product. Sellita is the upstart. They do make perfectly good movements and even they are being repped already. Invicta is promoting them because they can get those and ultimately not ETA. And If you go back to articles and financials of Swatch a few years ago you will see that Swatch pushed to get permission to discontinue ebauches for at least a couple of efforts. First and foremost they were losing money on them. Second, their movements were showing up in crap and rep watches denigrating the entire effort. And as for being altruistic nothing could be further from the truth. When the watch industry consolidated and rebounded they immediately petitioned to get out of their money losing industry leadership.
  7. Pete is right. Also a pic or two would be helpful. My own rule of thumb is that irrespective of how tight it is if a lever firmly contacts the crown and closes fully within the the CG body there is no such thing as too tight. It is hopefully all the more weather and dust proof. You can't damage the movement. The stem is not going to slip. Also, if it ever did fit better but is now too tight it is possible the gasket(s) moved.
  8. Another way to satisfy that urge is to pick your favorite watches and start modding them - either yourself or through one of the modders. When you finish or get back a watch you have something closer to gen and it also feels like you got a new watch. That is the only way I can keep the collection down to a reasonable number and not get stuck trying to sell a lot of stuff.
  9. Kudos to mastrmind. How many people actually notice?
  10. I may be off by $5.00 but how much is your time worth trying to figure this one out? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=ETA+2813+movement&_sacat=0&_odkw=Asian+2813+movement&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
  11. What makes you think he is doing dials anymore?
  12. Very interesting thread. If you are not into the thrill of the hunt is there really any reason to buy over there versus in the comfort of your own home? I have always wondered about it convinced that I would screw it up and get home with a busted watch and no way to exchange it. I had also heard that the higher end factories are very restrictive of what is allowed to stay in country - but that may be a myth.
  13. I applaud your efforts. But go drop the $20 on a new movement. Seriously, I suspect that unless you are prepared to truly break down the movement it will be very difficult to figure out.
  14. Great post. I always love to hear about the journey. I wish I could get that organized to put together a photographic essay of the journey through rep and frankendom. You also get my vote for the most creative franken description. I now have a new word to add to my WIS dictionary - "Ultra-Super-No-Not-Kidding-Uber-Fraken". Okay, maybe I add the "n".
  15. Aah, the only thing on that website now is a message from Chanel about counterfeits (i.e. Chanel legal closed them down). So if you had ordered from them you would be out your money. In any case the folks here (and other forums as well) go to a lot of trouble to put together a group of reliable dealers. Stick with them or proceed at your own risk.
