  1. Factories are focused on better sales and profitability - not better reps. When something stops selling they move on. The other factor is that often the factory actually making the better older reps may have long since gone out of business.
  2. If you are going diving shortly I would still strap on a dive computer on the other wrist. I don't think I would trust my life to a rep - no matter how many times I have it tested. Now if you are going swimming that is another story.
  3. I will get more excited when it gets closer to fruition. But I am going to use it as a desk clock. It is huge.
  4. Not without a lot of rework. The high beat Asian 7750 hands do not fit on a Swiss Valjouox 7750 never mind a 7753 without a lot of fitting.
  5. I think we need a "Do Over" clause added to our laws. Wouldn't you love some form of special election where if a certain percentage of the population checked a box all parties would have to stand up for re-election. I picture something like a no-confidence vote, Because I have no confidence in those pricks - all of them.
  6. Second one was fine. Now sold.
  7. The crown guard has too big a hole so that there is too much of a gap between the crown and the inside of the cg. i think it also may be partially due to the crown having slightly smaller depth and/ or too close to the case. wolf- Have you played around with the date pusher button. does the unscrew mechanism feel pretty solid. I have heard of two folks who have had the mechanism pop out when unscrewing the pusher with the tool.
  8. Looks good but be forewarned that if you are planning on putting in a 7753 you are going to need a 7753 dial. I am not sure that the rep 7753 dial is the right size though for this case. So tread carefully.
  9. At last, great Ubi reference pics on something other than Rolex. Looks great. Wear that one well.
  10. I am enjoying reading other folks thread. As I read other folks thoughts I started thinking how I do spend my time here because I do obviously still spend a lot of time here. And the real answer is that I still have a good time. the time is spent differently. I still chase down silly projects with good friends. Some of those friends have disappeared over the years. But I have also picked up new ones and we have worked on fun projects together. The other thing I have found is that it is actually fun helping a new member chase down or build their grail. So although the flavor has changed the fun has not. And in spite of the fact that I am very selective on buying reps I do get a kick out of watching new folks getting into the sport. I think as older members , as many of us are, we have to remember that in spite of the gold rush into reps by a much larger group of folks there are still that small group of people who share your particular passion and if you find them it keeps it fun and exciting. I guess it is a long way of saying that our own personal interest can change but if we are fortunate enough to meet one or two folks along the way in a given year and develop a new friendship that in itself is where the fun is. Okay, that was a little soppy.
  11. The cover of the New York Post was Amie Winehouse dead at 27> They asked her to go to rehab and her only response was "No, No, No" Brutal but honest. Feel bad for her family - not her.
  12. I think you just found yourself the world's most expensive rep crownguard. But it will be the best $800 you ever spent.
  13. We miss the hobby because it is no longer a hobby - at least reps aren't. They are a business. Top of the line reps are readily available via numerous sources on the internet and the only hiccup is an occasional customs seizure. We get QC pics and even have some return capability. Our old "hobby" of desperately searching for that super secret rep or the dealer who no one knows about or simply sharing that information is gone. We all still look forward to the reviews and comparisons to gen but a large portion of what was our hobby is gone or at least a lot less important. If you want a Rolex you can now readily find everything from the $100 Canal Street piece to MBW to Wong, Phong or whatever. So if reps are not really a hobby per se the question is what is our hobby here and I think the answer is more broadly sharing friendship and horological information - whether it is about real life, the latest rep, someone's new franken or even an interesting gen. Like many other folks here I spend a lot less time thinking about reps and more about my friends here, pursuing projects with friends when appropriate and reading things of broader horological interest. In fairness, I like most other posters here have been there and done that as well so that will certainly impact my feelings. But it is also great to see the excitement of a new recruit. By the way, my toes are still recovering from the frostbite I got when walking that 10 miles to school in a snowstorm - in barefeet of course.
  14. Absolutely gorgeous watch. Is there a gen of this model or is it a fantasy?
  15. As a number of said there is most likely no end-all or be-all for me. It is always changing. It used to be haute horologie dress watches with complications (i.e. Patek, Breguet, etc.). Then I actually had the luxury of partaking in that space and got completely disillusioned when they all spent more time in Switzerland being repaired then on my wrist. I then moved onto "tool" watches whether it be Panerai, Rolex or whatever. I am now enjoying the haute horologie tool watch space with the AP's and perhaps ultimately a Blancpain or Jaeger but now I lust for an exotic non-traditional watch. So today my current grail would have to be one of the Uhrwerke turbine watches. But ask me a agaimn tomorrow and you may get a different answer.
  16. I have no way of comparing as I don't own a rep themes but the one thing I have to tell you is that the Offshore dial and hands in C1 (i.e. white) actually do not have great glow either. The Diver does as it has a ton of lume slathered on but the gen Offshore's with white lume do not.
  17. Whoever the dealer is ask tem to pressure test it prior to sending the new one out to you. In truth I have never trusted the dealers' water resistance claims. I always test prior to taking any watch (rep or gen) swimming.
  18. It certainly is way to late to ask him to repair it but definitely ask if he can get you the pusher and repair it yourself. Unless it is a fancier threaded pusher that is a repair you can probably do yourself.
  19. Could be time to dump the whole lot and start over again. Seriously, I think all the folks who have been doing these builds for a few years wake up some mornings and say time to start over again and limit the builds to the half dozen watches we might actually wear. And the funny thing is that for all the recalcitrant threads about regretting selling something I have never looked back on the few I havea actually sold or given to friends.
  20. Given that this is the current "reproduced from a gen" version what is the improvement you are looking for? Lume on the tachy ring which an aftermarket modder can do or the date section which will always remain the same given the movement limitations?
  21. Absolute genius T! I couldn't figure out what you were talking about either. I will have to try it.
  22. Wow. I have no idea how accurate it is and whether it has the proper functionality but it looks great.
