  1. Can't wait to see the pics from whoever gets it first.
  2. I don't think Gavidoc has been around for a while so I would guess no.
  3. Unfortunately I wasn't that lucky on an AP Royal Oak a number of years ago. I had completely forgotten that emotionally scarring experience.
  4. Excellent point! I forgot the "ocean scenario". A salt water swim with a rep is one expensive swim.
  5. That is what the watch I put in the toaster looked like. At least you did it on purpose.
  6. I don't know what Noctilumina is but most watchsmiths use Tritec based in Switzerlan for their luminova and tritium needs.
  7. I own none of these but thought I had read somewhere that one of the two factories had cheaped out and used different bezel/case construction from the gen. Someone else who knows what I am talking about can chime in.
  8. Aha, hybrid strategies. Really the most important thing is that you get that moisture out as soon as possible to maintain your movement's good working order. Waiting for that moisture to "go away" is a mistake.
  9. Great points. Not a fan of the hair dryer either. And another reason to keep your dial facing up if you do stick your watch into the sun. And yes over time I have tried the hair dryer as well.
  10. I know this has been discussed a number of times before but it is that time of year again in the Northern Hempishere (I.e. Summer and of course I forgot and jumped in the pool). In any case here is my approach. as most folks know leaving moisture in your watch can rust your movement, etc. And no flaming by the vets please. Although it is a simple procedure and most people know the various techniques there are always new members who may be encountering this issue for the first time. Step 1: Take off case back and pop open crown to most open position. I then stick the watch face up into a window to get sun shining on it. Keeping it face up also hopefully minimizes dust getting into the movement. And yes, please leave your window closed. I give it at least a day and certainly until I don't see evidence of moisture. Step 2: Place watch into baggie with a silica packet or two (yes your camera will live for a day without a silica pack) for at least an hour. By the way some people prefer to skip Step 1 to avoid getting dust in the movement and just leave it in the baggie longer. Step 3: By now there should be no apparent moisture so screw that case back back on, close up the crown and it is time for the quick test. Take your watch and stick it in your refrigerator. Give it 10-15 minutes (or at least until there us real condensation on the exterior of the case). If you are not seeing any moisture inside the case you are most likely good to go. This is not the only method or necessarily the best method but it has worked well for me. Over the years I have tried some silly approaches - yes I once placed my watch in a toaster. And yes, that watch was toast. Should have gone with Warm rather than Bake. And special thanks to Ziggy and Ubi for always helping me out when I do something stupid.
  11. Glad to hear it will be alright. I take it from your title that you believe it is result from a watch purchase?
  12. Me thinks the one you are referring to is one of the best out of the box reps ever. The solid case back and a more interesting dial made it my choice (years ago) over the standard XL chrono.
  13. I am with you on aesthetics on gens. If you have missing pieces than of course you have to fix them but otherwise I never let an AD or anyone touch the aesthetics of the watch. I like the dings as well. I do hope they get the 187 right. It is a gen I would love to own but it is large enough that it will only get weekend wear on my end so I can't justify it. But I do love that piece.
  14. Out of curiousity what does the gen strap cost?
  15. Ken- Holy cow! And I thought I was pathetic. You are doing way too much moderating.
  16. Those pics give me a watch woodie. I wonder how much the rotor alone is. I once brought a Breguet in and the Boutique wanted to charge me $2200 for the rotor and not return the original Gee, what do you think those repairman do with all that precious metal?
  17. In spite of your problems I am still very jealous. But you wouldn't be the first to buy a rep and put the gen away. Back in the day there were a pair of brothers who both owned the gen but wore the rep. By the way $9k is a great price for that piece. And yes, I am eagerly awaiting the rep. The way I figure it you never know exactly when it is coming but 9 times out of 10 when there is a rumor it does ultimately come out so I will continue to be patient.
  18. It was a good run while it lasted. Those who have one should treasure it.
  19. Cheers. You are a member of an elite (or idiotic ) club. More importantly you have been a great member with something to say other than GLWS. Glad you are here. Next stop - 5000.
  20. I do love to do frankens and I am sure most of the parts will be available. But I don't thoink this one is a candidate for a Franken as I suspect you need the actual AP movement (Calibre 3120) and that will be thousands of $. A number of years ago I waterlogged a gen AP Royal Oak and when I brought it to AP for a repair quote they insisted on replacing the movement and it was $2-3 thousand. That 3120 has one of the most stunning gold rotors you will ever see. It is a work of art unto itself. I think you buy this one to do a relume (and AR if you have the patience) and call it a day.
  21. I will. But I need to finish up one more project. What I am wondering is if they will do a second Boutique version. The earlier boutique versions have a more similar date section and no AR. It is the first watch I will have bought that can't be frankened in a long time. My guess is that you need a gen movement (3120) to use a gen dial due to date alignment. It isn't perfect as no rep is but with a lume on the inner bezel it should be good to go for my purposes.
  22. Dani- It is a great rep except for the lack of lume on the rotating inner bezel. And you can fix that. The case is superb. You do have to live with the markers and date section. In spite of people's complaints it is a damn good rep for $300.
  23. Great review. I haven 't thought about the Nautilus since I bought the original MBW back in the day, May have to revisit this one. That 1:1 seems to fix a number of the flaws in the original MBW and that was a damn good rep.
