  1. What is the significance and why so cheap relative to the other ones you have been good enough to show us in the past?
  2. No a Chinese rep scam board in German.
  3. It is funny to think about a few years back when everyone other than Connie and Paul were smaller dealers operating out of photobuckets. And other than those two every other dedicated website was a scam. Then again the concept of a factory was 50 women in a basement and the definition of QC was whether the watch ever arrived.
  4. Although there are some standards you do need to check with the dealer. On the 5 month question the answer is no. A dealer has no idea what you have done with the watch in the interim. People do all kinds of things to their watches - take them swimming when they are not waterproof, etc. in terms of problems when the watch arrives the dealer will usually take it back. I haven't had a problem for a long time but normally I pay shipping one way and the dealer sends the new one on his nickel. And bear in mind that gen watches are priced not only to take into account development, marketing and manufacturing but also warranty protection. Many dealers do take customs risk but you have to prove to them it is stuck in customs and he will wait weeks before reshipping a new one as customs can tie up your piece (depending on country) for weeks. As for the QC pics below that is just embarrassing but at least you had QC pics to notice it before it was sent. And no I don't think the dealer was trying to stick you with a bad piece but he should look before he snaps the pic. And he should be embarrassed.
  5. Theo- Great post. I know you must be inundated with the usual "what is the best ROO" questions all the time. This is a good way to head it off at the pass and try and set folks in the right direction. .
  6. The first group project I ever helped organize with other folks here was the original cyclops' for the Honpo 29's and 63's. We called them Watchmaster Cyclops. Watchmaster=Watchmeister. My avatar is actually the internet logo for a repair shop by the same name.
  7. Why do our A7750's need a service? Because we are too cheap to buy the gen which comes with a warranty. If you don't care about the brand name buy a no-name or lower end branded watch with the same aesthetics and with a warranty. Seriously, unless you take your watches apart you will not have any idea what condition your movement is in, whether it was properly serviced (unlikely), if and when it will stop running properly and when it does whether you will be able to get the spare parts. So it will always be a guess unless you go to the trouble to break down your movement when the watch is received. I do subscribe to Freddy's theory. Decide whether the watch is a keeper before investing in a service.
  8. It all makes sense. Spray the whole movement in one shot and presto - it is serviced. You will never know whether the right part of the movement got proper lubrication (it didn't) so each one is potentially a ticking time bomb. But the operative word is "potentially". Everyone has to make their own decision whether to service or wait until it breaks down. And to this day I have had some movements last an entire service interval (3-5 years) and other ones crap out within months. In any case thanks for the update. Sounds like overall some of the movement designs have gotten better but the assembly hasn't.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy the watches and the comradery.
  10. Very nice. I am with you on mixing dial/hand sets with different cases.
  11. That is a cool dial. On the hands why don't you just paint them yourself? It is going to be kind of difficult to time anything longer than 60 seconds.
  12. Very nicely done and always great to see a member take care of a good friend.
  13. I am with Madred on this all the way. This is one of the last ones you would want to buy because it isn't a rep.
  14. I haven't yet but I will. I am waiting to complete an Offshore franken and then I will pick up the diver.
  15. Dials and date placement do vary. But in truth the easiest tell is simply the pushers (and crown). Here is a good pic of the pushers and crown: The rep pushers are much more squared at the ends and actually all the rubber is a slightly different color from the rep. Not that I look but if I were that is the first thing I would look at. For all the variants of dials, changes in date font and cyclops and even slight differences in cases as far as I know the pushers have never changed.
  16. Hey R- Great to see you around. Excellent thread. I always knew the rep was good but didn't know it was that good. How you do these pics with your phone is a mystery to me (yes I know you have posted how-to's before).
  17. Glad the bank did the right thing. I do have one thought for people worried about their credit card and cloning via the internet. If you already have the funds I have found it worthwhile to set up a separate account with a debit card and I just flow the account I need from the real account to the debit card linked account so there is never any risk beyond the amount of the transaction. At least in the U.S. all the banks are under tremendous pressure to set up new accounts so they are happy to open one for you.
  18. Hey Rob- It's Kruz (slight name change on my end as well). Hope everything is good for you and welcome back. Don't be a stranger when you get rich again though.
  19. Huh? I didn't think Chris ever carried MBW's.
