It definitely feels like I got one of "those", I still cannot get over it. Now I'm having this crazy idea about getting another one and have it PVD coated... hmmm :g:
-
Hmmm... within the Historic range the fact so many of them are 47mm versus 44mm annoys me. I still like the designs. But I cannot wear 47mm due to my wrist size.
-
Yes, you really cannot. And in real life 390 looks spot on. I love it !!! By the way, this insanity with 360 color cases and versions is just crazy. I completely gave up on getting one a while ago. I think it would be better to just get a base that you like or even another 390 and just have it PVD coated.

Both straps are very nice. I really like the 74, the color of it would work very nicely with 390.

Awesome, thank you so much for the information!!!

I think I might actually be finished... 201/A is DONE

That looks really nice!!! Great job!!! -
I looked at zoomed in shots and that actually looks pretty good. I would go with this one. One thing I would do is to ask your dealer to make sure that when the lever is in a closed position; it does sit against the crown really tight. I did that with my recent order, as a matter of fact a piece that I received yesterday and he has picked a really tight one for me. The factory QC on that sometimes can be pretty bad and when the lever does not sit tight enough when closed it kind of sucks and feels cheap/fake.

I keep coming back to look at the pictures and I just cannot stop thinking of a custom 390 in PVD case....

I was actually blown away how good the rep strap is that came with 390. It's been 6 years since I bought Panerai rep and I'm still in disbelief.
-
Thanks Offshore, that's perfect!
-
This rep is too good not to have it. I'm staring at mine now and it's still hard to believe this is a rep.
-
It will really come down to your personal preference, what color do you like the best versus what others like. But since you asked, I like the first light brown. That will work really nicely with 390. And since you are already looking at Waccex straps, you can get tubes and buckle there as well at great prices.

Very nice choice in the end. 088 is my favorite non-base model. I think it's a most "expensive" looking Panerai.
-
Well, it's hit or miss with reps in general. I think that the CG lever looks good when closed, it does not feel good when you move it, not even remotely close to the gen. It will be different from rep to rep. But overall 390 looks really good.

I just got a package from Andrew earlier today. I'm pretty happy!

I'd like to get a tool for making holes in Panerai straps. Not the round holes of course, but the standard Panerai wider shape. If you know of a good one, could you please direct me towards a place I can get one from. Thank You!!!

Not sure why grey dial PP is even an option since it is not a model PP makes with SS bracelet and when you search for it on google all results are reps. Blue dial looks pretty good to me and it's a model currently made by PP. Any comments about hue of the blue color being off should be disregarded cause you are looking at the photos on screens that are not color calibrated and pictures that were shot in various lighting conditions. You should read Gran's awesome review here: http://www.rwg.cc/to...-nautilus-5711/ PP is a better executed rep then AP. But in the end it is a personal preference, which watch do you like better is more important. I think PP beats the hell our of AP on every single level, but some people may like AP better, it's a matter of taste.

And as you go out and get your first Panerai, I will get Patek Nautilus, thanks to your original review I personally think that 088 is a best looking PAM that has any type of subdials. I know someone who has a Gen and that piece is just beautiful. The rep is pretty nice with an exception of the shape of the tip of the lever that really does not match the gen. 029M N-Maker is really nice and very accurate to the Gen, you cannot really pick on this one. it does not have a subdial but it has a date and GMT hand http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_51&products_id=8949 It does not look as sexy as 088 but it is pretty nice and probably the most accurate non-base Panerai rep you can buy. 236K is an older rep, back from 2010 I'm not sure if it was updated, the crown guard lever is going to be pretty crappy on this one too, it sticks out way too far from the case and the shape is weird. They are usually not flushed well with the outer edge of the crown guard. - http://imgur.com/a/FDRQJ If I'm correct the Chrono models haven't been really updated as much since there is not much interest in those in general. If I were you I would only stick to latest releases. I would hope to see an update to 088 with the ever fixed to look like Gen or even like the 029. Compare that lever tip on the 088 Rep to Gen pics and see how much it will bother you, the fact that it "slopes" too much, it is not as round as it should be. I know you don't want base but it's worth pointing out that 390 rep just looks amazing in person and it may just be the closest to the Gen Panerai rep ever made.

Yep, quite few nice choices for much less then $10K, I recently tried on few in the low $6K range including the discount. Jaeger is what you buy if you go Gen and pass on to your kids. That's for sure.
-
Welome to the world of Panerai reps!
-
Hahaha... awesome!!! Yes 390 feels 99% Gen anyway. Anyone willing to spend $6700 or whatever they go for now... it is soooo not worth it. Even if you have that money to turn into watch, better spend it on some awesome Jaeger with in-house movement and keep Panerai reps.
-
So what to do with the handwind pams without running sec?
lfovco replied to slask111's topic in The Panerai Area
Good call. Plus if it ever gets bad you can get 6497 ST36 movement for it for $40 and have one of the experts here install it. I keep a couple of Swiss 6497's around in case I need to use them one day. -
... and then charge some insane LE price for it. Better then that, you can actually ask dealers to have the factory assemble a custom rep like that for you. I would totally wear that a lot. Of course you can do it yourself so awesomely, but for those who cannot it is an interesting option.
