  1. When my wife raised an eyebrow about another box from China, I gently reminded her that the total amount I've ever spent on watches is exceeded by both: 1) The cost of the single platinum and diamond anniversary band on her finger. and 2) My poker tournament winnings this Summer. She took the hint, she's pretty reasonable.
  2. ausgezeichnet!

    Sinn Militare

That Sinn looks great on that strap! I love the German days.
  4. Sodom
  5. Kanye was wrong about Bush. It's not that GWB doesn't care about black people. Look at Michael Steele! He just doesn't care about anyone who can't write a six-figure check to the Republican Party.
  6. I use these: http://www.amazon.com/Double-automatic-watch-winder-SETTING/dp/B001XTVLY6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1252993509&sr=8-2 It's the best value and fit that I've found. They have multiple rotation settings, they're quiet, and they hold the watches vertically, so they don't run into the angle problem dudemeister outlined. To give you an idea of reliability; I've owned 4 in the past 2.5 years, one of them has failed.
  7. I have done it on a UPO by rubbing it with a tissue with acetone in it. Wear gloves, and do outside or under a hood. This technique requires care to keep the acetone from getting into the case and dissolving the gasket.
  8. 100%. I don't want to wear anything that might peg me as a fan of Tom Cruise. I think I'd sooner wear an OJ jersey.
  9. When I was 22, I had one of the best days of my life hanging out on the beach in Nice.
  10. LOVE the Zenith. It's got everything.

  12. I like this one myself, too bad you're in the UK. Yes, it does detach and is functional.
  13. My parents had one of these from 1974. Apparently the frequency at which the engine vibrates when freeway cruising is the same as the resonant frequency of the chassis, or some such thing. The exhaust pipe fell off three different times.

  15. How's the lume? The one I have has metallic numbers and hands.
  16. http://www.siswatch727.com/showroom/model/T0165/templateProductDetails.do?ParentId=1240792357671003663&currentPage=1&editCurrentLanguage=1239717806671017347&webId=1239717806671017346&productId=1240796306312004101 I have 1 Parnis I got via ebay. I am very happy with it (once I got a better strap). It's an A6497 that runs fast by less than 1 second a day, and it was only $41 after shipping. So I was wondering if anyone here has bought the "46mm Black Dial Pilot Style Mechanical Asian 2824 Automatic Date Watch" from Getatwatch. What's the word on the street about this one?
  17. Bravo, Offshore!

  19. You, sir, are correct.
  20. There is benefit even from a DBN (Drive-By Noob) who comes in, does his research, and buys one Sub or PO before never logging in again. Every time that happens, it increases slightly the worldwide demand for quality reps from reputable dealers, and decreases the demand for Canal Street garbage. Obviously, it would be preferable to us for them to stick around and contribute to the community, but ya can't always get what ya want. Let's not look at DBNs as a total loss, as each one is a small victory. On a totally unrelated note; yesterday, I saw that one of the commenters on the website of the San Francisco Chronicle (sfgate.com) uses the walrus/bucket photo as her avatar.
  21. I don't have a grande sonnerie, and likely never will. But I think I would like to get some manner of GMT chrono.
  22. Very informative. This should be pinned when the saga is finished.
  23. 3717 on buffalo rally strap. Sorry about the poor quality iphone pic, couldn't find the good camera.
  24. If we're talking about only one watch at all for me to wear forever... I like chronographs, so it would have to be a chronograph. I sometimes swim or waterski, so it would have to be heavily water-resistant. I prefer SS to other metals. And I often forget what day it is, so I would need the date. Perhaps this:
  25. "I had once told a guy who was interviewing me that my shoes cost more than the salary he was offering and he must me kidding." I love it. As it turns out everyone there was dressed very casually, but the lab manager interviewing me was wearing a TT Omega Ladies Constellation. I didn't do great at the microtome test, as I am really out of practice with that skill. I also learned that I might not even accept this job if it is offered. It would be pretty monotonous. There's a big difference between doing scientific research and working in a contract lab, even if the technical skills are the same. But when I do start working, I'm gonna get me another watch!
