  1. Thanks Toad, that's what I was hoping to hear.
  2. It may be that I paid too much, which is one of the reasons I posted it here. However, the problem with mine wasn't that it was dirty. It had a problem common to A7750s -- the rotor spun while the crown was being screwed back onto the tube. I do think real estate values have something to do with it also. This place is right next to Union Square, where the rents are very high. I'll likely try Mr. Seuss next time to see what he charges.
  3. This is a sequel to: http://www.rwg.cc/members/Watch-Repair-San...ml&p=624026 My UPO crapped out for real sometime later. So I took it into San Francisco with the intent of going back to Mr. Seuss at Downtown Watch Repair. When I got to his door, I read the sign saying that he had taken a long weekend. Consulting my iphone, I saw that there was another independent watch repair shop in the same building on a different floor - Geneva Watch Repair. I took it in there and was upfront about it being a replica. They had it back to me in about 3 weeks after servicing it for $120. He was willing to cut a deal with me and offered to service the UPO and an Invicta I also brought along for $200. I took the UPO only. I've had it back for a couple of months now and it performs just fine. Next, I had an IWC 3717 A7750 with a couple of issues that I had purchased from another RWG member (issues that were fully disclosed by the seller before the sale). I gave it to them for a full servicing and got it back about 3 weeks later for $240. After getting it home, I realized that the watch would stop if the chrono were on (sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 30). I returned it to GWR asking them to address this as well as finding and installing a missing half-pin in the bracelet near the clasp. I just returned from there with the watch. The work was done as warranty work (60 or 90 days is their policy, I forget) and they threw in the pin gratis. My chrono has now been running for almost 2 hours with no apparent problems. I'm cautiously optimistic. Hopefully there will be no more trouble.
  4. Yep. I got cut loose in late February, and my severance was also pretty decent. My kids love that I'm home all the time, but they drive me a little crazy. I'm still buying watches!
  5. Genuine Hamilton Khaki Chrono. 38mm. Not too pricey, less than some of the higher-end reps.
  6. There's always the Bergamo 40. http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/viewPrd....uct=663#details
  7. This was an excellent post, and deserves to be pinned. G-10 and Zulu straps rock. Here's my Seiko Orange Monster on a Maratec Zulu worn while snowboarding.
  8. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00129ILWC/ Silent and vertical. I've found that the inexpensive winders that are at an angle sometimes don't work well at getting the rotor to turn.
  9. Try this one. I just received one the other day and I'm satisfied. Admittedly, it's no HK gator strap, but it is pretty good for 25% of the cost. http://www.thewatchprince.com/watch-band?s...sort1=Item_NAME
  10. Well, my package from International Watchman arrived. http://www.internationalwatchman.com/sport...APSBUFFALO.html I chose the black GT strap, with the spring-loaded butterfly deployant. I didn't order the ostrich, so can't comment on that one, but the strap I did get is really excellent quality for $10 (butterfly is extra). It's strong, feels soft on the inside, and has that rich leather smell. I'm sure I will try the ostrich in the weeks to come.
  11. Maybe you want the Aquaracer http://www.jpc8118.com/tg02010-aquaracer-c...bph-p-3203.html If those are your only criteria, then there's always Citizen.
  12. I went to high school with a girl named Rhonda Dieckhaus (yes, [censored]-house) and worked for a guy named [censored] Long.
  13. I love it. It would be perfect as an emergency set of brass-knuckles.
  14. Does this watch now count as the world franken champion?
  15. +1 I've had an Orange Monster for 2 years now, and it is an extraordinary value. Totally bulletproof, and my example can sit on the winder for 2 weeks and only differ from the atomic clock by 10 seconds. When buying it, I would purchase it with the steel bracelet and then also buy the rubber separately for the wrist of a 10 year old--cheaper that way, and he'll have the steel for when his wrist fills out. I got mine from an ebay user in Singapore called pokemonyu for less than $150US shipped.
  16. I will let you know. It should be here any day now. Maybe someone will correct me, but I'm pretty sure the BP lugs are 22mm.
  17. I think this one is pretty handsome: http://www.internationalwatchman.com/ostba...SSEOSTRICH.html Tobacco or cognac for your color scheme. I have ordered from them, but only recently, and haven't received the band yet.
  18. I love it, I think I may have to jump on it like double-quick.
  19. Yeah, prosecutorial misconduct is disgusting. However, that doesn't make Stevens innocent. There is enough public evidence that was not in dispute to convict him. Much like Nixon in 1972, these US attorneys didn't need to cheat. Maybe now that the DOJ is under new management, some of the incompetence will be removed.
  20. That's interesting. I know I'd be lost in my home kitchen without a chrono or rotating bezel.
  21. I figured Alton was a WIS, but the watch that confirmed it for me was when I saw him wearing a sub on a Bond NATO strap. That's like a secret handshake.
  22. The good news is that, like Hamilton and Longines, they're not all THAT expensive. A genuine can be had for a modest sum...as watches go.
  23. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=110373401102 Calls the watch an Avenger, without saying Breitling.
  24. I see you dropped your watch at 4:20. Something inhibit your motor skills Nanuq?
