How do I repair or minimize scratches in a dial?
speedy1 replied to speedy1's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Doesn't matter anyway. When I was playing with it at lunch I found out the jimmy fu case is too shallow and the second hand won't clear the date mag window. So it looks like I am going to throw a brand new 2892-A2 power reserve movment up for sale (it won't seel becuase who the hell has a project going that needs THIS movment. but thanks for the help anyway. -
How do I repair or minimize scratches in a dial?

Thats the problem, I didn't tnink anyone sold this dial. I would buy a new in a heartbeat! -
So my 12 year old daughter has been on the swim team this year. She thinks she can beat the old man at diving in swimming across the pool. So I kick off my flip flops, take off the shirt, and place my 27 on the small drink table and prepare to dive in, wearing cargo shorts no less! I get out after a few runs (the little 12 year old chick is pretty quick after all) I put on the shirt and look for the watch................uh oh. I see my two year old over at the low wall rock ledge, smashing ants, with some thing shiney. You know the rest of the story. Hands are toast but this gives me an excuse to by genuine ones. The arrow has a couple tiny scratches but still usable. The case is shot and some how when she smacked it, the crystal shot out and is actually ok. But there are a couple of scratches in the dial, not major, unbelievably, but there none the less. Can I fix then by spraying clear varnish? BTW, the dial on the 27 has to be sanded down to fit in a jimmy fu case!

Is it just the pic or all 3 chrono hands on the 162 the same length? i thought the bottom chrono hand was shorter on most of thier chrono models.

Sorry didn't read this one first. Yup, 1966 speedy! I just came back from a full restoration. These are pics that were taken right before. I am borrowing a dig camera to take pics this weekend so that I can post them on the Genuine Forums. My phone takes good pics but not great pics. here is the movement before restoration

Ok, I'll give you a hint. Right now I have a clearcaseback on it. So here is a pick of the original caseback. I bet a few of you who are a WIS of this particular type or era of watch will know right off.

1. Buzz Aldrin's 1966 Omega Speedmaster, first watch worn on the Moon 2. Rolex submariner worn by James Bond (Sean Connery) in 1962's Dr.No. (first watch of Bond) 3. Omega Seamaster worn by James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) in 1996's Goldeneye (first apearance of Bonds' Seamanster) 4. Robert Palmer Bradley's 1968, Rolex, single red, Sea-Dweller that was presented to him in honor of the 500th Anniversary dive of the research Submersible DEEPSTAR 4000. 5. The Longines "Linbergh Watch-precursor to the later Hour Angle) worn by Charles Linbergh during his flight over the atlantic EDIT Well.....he did say ANY watch right?

Yup that is exactly what was wrong with mine. If anyone can figure out a way to improve upon your watch , it will be The Zigmeister. good luck

Wow, that sucks. You couldn't remove the screws from my barcelet if you wanted to they all seem to be loctited (if that is a word) in. My movement was dirty enough to stop now and then. so I can agree on that issue whole heartedly. But it is a solid mevment in the mens none the less. With that many problems, have you thought of asking for a replacement?

Vintage submariner 1680 (perferably white instead of red) For some reason I have gotten a vintage bug up my ass. But as I just dropped $1,200 in the past month on 3 reps my wife isn't going to let me buy one for a while. PS: I would trade a FM conqustador for it. (yup I want a vintage project that bad)

Ditto this. One mine, after grinding the underside of the insert so it fits below the bezel lip, it never scratches. Or I could just be a lucky SOB. Also I buy the "higher quality" inserts from a local jewelry/ watch store that specializes in servicing rolex. I don't know if they are really better but they look great and I haven't sctached my sub's insert yet, and I wear as my work watch everyday. Also the GMT insert I bought from them had the blue/red border in the correct places and the blue looks spot on to me.

Does it have an oring inside the caseback? If so, would a larger (in diameter) one help you think? Just curious..... Also, how does the womens compare wit the mens? My wife wants one of the womens now that she has seen mine.

If my watchmaker is correct, the only thing that might keep this rep from being waterproof is the fact that the crystal is glued in. (So is the genuine but they have quality control) But the screw down crown, on mine, has a nice o-ring inside. But according to him, the decorated 2892-A2 in the reps looks just like the genuine. However it is the finishing around the inside of the case that is a tip off. But if one would spend time with the case apart and some 1000 grit wet-dry sandpaper, this could be remedied as well.

Take note Fellow Dealers and friends ! Vince Barone = Scammer !
speedy1 replied to Jos Nana's topic in General Discussion
I have placed a few orders with Jos in the past. And there was one recently, in which I recieved the incorrect watch. I photographed the watch on top of the box, still packed in it's original packing, and sent it to him. I had my correct watch in FOUR days to the US. He is a stand up dealer IMHO, and usually sends out correct or replacements instantly in order to keep his customers happy. The problem is that some assholes try and take advantage of this trait becasue they see it as a weakness. But hey forget that the dealers have info and adresses in which to dole out the the interent community. And that is not a good thing for a scammer. -
I quite trying to tinker with my watches myself. Everytime I did I screwed something up. Now I just pay some one to do my mods. That way when something is not right I can at least say it wasn't my fault!

Sorry, another pic taken with my phone. But this is what I am wearing after picking it up this morning.

I am curious on these issues as well. The only reason I spent the $300 on a franck Muller instead of one of the new Asian Daytona is that the Muller has a BULLETPROOF Eta movment and will prove super reliable. And the reviews of the extra gearing to move the subdials haven't been good previously. I still want one of the black face Daytona's very badly, and as much as I like the Muller I still wish I had a Daytona. Maybe the next time I came hide money form the wife I can order one.

What size Date magnification should a GMT II have?
speedy1 replied to speedy1's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Thank you so very much! -
Been trying to search this for my 27a, it seems only the "popular models" had ar coating starting in the b series (111,112,etc) and only inthe final numbers of B series manufactured at that. If I find out different I will comment, please do the same.

BEST Payment Option - Definitely NOT PAYPAL
speedy1 replied to trustywatchguy's topic in General Discussion
Egold seems very impracticle for the buyer, as well as only offers protection for the seller (buyer protection is why most of us use PP instead of Western union) Am I wrong? -
Mine has a GOOD 2.5x but it also has a GREAT crown at the 6:00. Should I trade it for crystal with 2x mag but NO crown etched (I already have this in hand)
