Holy [censored], there's some serious kit here

http://www.patrizziauction.com/only_watch/

Under the high patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, 34 of the most prestigious high watchmaking brands have donated unique timepieces to the Association Monégasque contre le Myopathie, to be sold at auction by Patrizzi & Co. All the proceeds of the sale go to support research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Holy [censored]! WATCH PORN ALERT!!!!

I'd heard about the DMD event in Monaco from a colleague but had no idea there were such unique beauties (and gorgeous uglies ;)) on offer.

Call me conservative (aka 'understated elegant taste') but I'd whip out a few kidneys (not mine obviously) for the chance of owning...oh let me see now... :g:

OK, the V4 Monaco (but of course), that retro pandalicious Zenith and (although I'd never wear it, just stare at it) that albino Ploprof

Wow.

Wow! Did you see the TAG Monaco V4? "The First Mechanical Movement to Replace Traditional Pinions".. Its got drive belts like a damn engine!

Yeah I saw it. Same as I did back in 2004 (yes it really HAS been that long) when it was first announced complete with prototype pics. Probably the most problematic concept-to-production project ever - it was only very recently that they confirmed production was going ahead after they finally found a supplier to make those little toothed belts to spec, which drive the linear oscillating weights seen on the see-through caseback. Problem is the thing will cost in excess of 10,000 euros in the first place, but this one being the first available in the wild, will fetch at least 5 times that I'm sure, possibly more if the charity event sparks a bidding war.

What has got me excited about this photo though, is that the movement on display looks subtly but significantly different in both design and components than the partially bridge-hidden concept pics. Jaw-dropping and VERY exciting.

Funny about that Ploprof and how it has become such a desirable watch. 10 years ago everyone would have considered it just awful. Have you seen the prices they're asking for those vintage Ploprofs now?

I like that Zenith.
