vlydog Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 My wife is making Chicken Tikka Masala right now and the smells throughout our home are intoxicating. Wish you were here!
Guest HaloArchive Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 That sounds excellent. My fiancee is making Chicken Adobo right now!
WhichWatch Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 I love CTM - mmmm, one of the tastiest sauces. This is what I had for dinner last night;- http://www.thaifoodtonight.com/thaifoodtonight/recipes-MeGrob.htm I added a big handful of nice tiger prawns too though
Ronin Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Big fan of most Asian cultures foods.
chronoluvvv Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 my wifey is hard-core vegetarian while i can eat anything that moves or doesn't ... FML !
KB Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 My wife is Indian and we eat all kinds of cooking but love our curries too. An interesting point is that CTM is not an Indian dish but was created in an Indian restaurant in England to cater for the milder British taste. Ken
Toadtorrent Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 I'm a palek paneer man. Love my Indian food...all of it. There's a place close to us that has life changing Butter Chicken...not your usual western variety...this stuff is awesome.
WhichWatch Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Ken is right about CTM and there are some pretty horrendous versions of it available too. When you get a good one though, its a good example of successful western interpretation of Asian food. My favourite is Lamb dhansak, though I am partial to a nice Jalfrezi too
KB Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Actually a good Biryani is amongst my favourites Ken
Samurai Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Very true Ken....you'd be hard-pressed to find CTM anywhere in India. Another fav of mine is the Tandoori chicken
P8B Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 +1 CTM does not exist in India (How do i know?? In live there! well 75% of the year atleast!) Take it from me if you like CTM then get on a plane to India and ask for butter chicken at any of the millions of restaurants in delhi (but for the luv of GOD do tell them to make it mild spicy or less spicy!) Hey TT - man was eating palak paneer last night at a friends place in NY...
Toadtorrent Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Yum...I'm feeling the need for some Indian food...
arminvanbuuren Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 believe it or not after reading this thread yesterday i was actually craving for some chicken tikka masala.. so my girlfriend, the good nice person that she is.. she made me some chicken cashew masala today.. and boy did i love it?? dammit!!! i want more now!!
theblueprince Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 CTM's a bit on the weak side but Indian food is allllllll good. Try Thai (proper thai, not crap out of a jar/majority of "Thai" restaurants) for a really hot dish
Pugwash Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 An interesting point is that CTM is not an Indian dish but was created in an Indian restaurant in England to cater for the milder British taste. Actually, it was Scotland, but yeah, you're right about the taste. It was a Scotsman that ordered Chicken Tikka with a gravy in a Glasgow restaurant, so the restaurant took a tomato soup and added Indian spices. Bingo, CTM, the most popular meal in Britain. The Balti was invented in England, however; Birmingham to be precise. Oh, and in Glasgow, they don't generally like their curries mild.
vlydog Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 That is the story that I have heard too, Pugs. Traditionally Indian or not, it is great dish.
Pugwash Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Nothing wrong with CTM, but I usually order something from the spicier end. Having said that, CTM makes great lunch when you need to go back to work for the afternoon, if you know what I mean. When you need something less bowel-rending than a Vindaloo, and you can't bring yourself to order the Kashmiri Korma, CTM is there to fill the lunch gap.
theblueprince Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 B'ham has amazing Indian restaurants.
vlydog Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 Vindaloo is my all time fave; bowel-rending and all.
Edwin25 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Vindaloo is my all time fave; bowel-rending and all. Vlydog... you know what's best for your tong! Indeed... chicken Vindaloo ( extra extra extra hot) the best there s. ps: if my avatar is cooking serving it, it will taste only better E.
Pugwash Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 B'ham has amazing Indian restaurants. Agreed. Glasgow, however, has even better ones. Come up and try some.
OmegaPOFL Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 i am!!!! partially because... well i am indian born here (in US) though... i made chilli chicken last week... i didn't pick up any naan or paratha ... i only had those extra big tortillas... and they were surprisingly good!!! try making chilli chicken.. so good +1 on biryani. tandoori chicken is also one of my favs..
vlydog Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 I have to credit my wife with being such an amazing cook. She is not afraid to tackle anything. Although not Indian, she can hold here own with curry. Her CTM was bowel ripping hot but we both enjoy highly spiced food. When dining in Indian restaurants here in the states we often ask for the food to be prepared extra spicy. I will have to try biryani; I have never had it.
theblueprince Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Agreed. Glasgow, however, has even better ones. Come up and try some. Every time i come to Glasgow to see a mate there it all ends up a bit hazy....i reckon having an Indian too would be playing with fire in more ways than one.....
chronoluvvv Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Costco is starting to sell the pre-mix pre-cooked stuff nowadays, add chicken and you're good to go
