trombone Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 hi there, look here: http://www.kingshowbox.com/goods.php?id=3796 finaly there is a rep of this longawaited replica. let's see, how good it is
tenacious_b Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Looks pretty vanilla to be so greatly anticipated and long awaited; what's the draw?
FxrAndy Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Date window lacks the bevel, date font to thin, Hands look thin as well, crown to long and all the printing is not bold enough Rep gen
letter Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 yep: hands are wrong date font is wrong/poor dial numbers are poor - e.g. take a look at the '1's of the dial numbers(1, 10, 11) and compare to gen crown too big? hard to tell disappointed
ubiquitous Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 The big difference that really stands out to me is the integreated bezel. Notice on the gen how flat/wide the top surface/face of the lip is, and how the bevel is relatively steeper/more angled as a result. The rehaut looks a little shallower on the gen as well. None the less, I've got mine on order and will see how it looks/wears when it arrives.
ThinkBachs Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Another thing that seems to stand out for me is that the lugs appear to be twice as long on the rep as the gen. The fonts are wrong also- the rep have squared ends where the gen has rounded... Shop price:$255.00........... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry, but I expected this to be around $99. Sorry if I'm offending anyone whose seriously considering this watch...
jfreeman420 Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Um, case diameter 39mm? Are we going backwards in time now?
Jb boin Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I hope cheaper 21j versions will be released because i really like it but i wouldnt pay that much for a quite imprecise non-chrono rep
vlydog Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 crown appears to be a bit over-sized as well.
jj69 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 It's unfortunate that they seem to have botched this one. I sincerely hope it's not just the old Mark XV replica with a new bezel and hands. If that's the case, avoid it at all costs. The way the Mark XV rep is constructed is a joke. The whole watch is held to together by the case back. Unfortunately, I fear this is the same case. The Mark XV rep was 39mm (the gen was 38mm), which oddly makes it the correct size for the Mark XVI (gen is 39mm). I think it was just too tempting for the makers to re-use the old case.
concepta Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 The datefont can be fixed by adding the gen 30010 movement. I have those in stock but can
chronos666 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 George has this on his project log, I bet he will do a better job.
whitestripes Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 There's something off about the entire package. It's not as elegant, if you will, as the gen. Hand shape is off, case shape, etc. WM9 will make a killing on this rep.
Jkay Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 George has this on his project log, I bet he will do a better job. At the exacting pace WM9 works, expect that for Christmas, 2011. Not a knock against George .. a craftsman works at the pace perfection dictates. It's just reality. Regarding this new XVI ... sloppy. As another commentator remarked "it loses all of it's elegance"
thogaa Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 That should be much better or cost much less
cosmosblau Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 This is very disappointing. Not really worth buying, I would say.
LOTUS ELISE Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 39mm case---------too small unless you are a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shundi Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 39mm case---------too small unless you are a girl!!!!!!!!!!!! Disagree...the majority of Rolexes sold in the last 20 years have been below 39mm
ubiquitous Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I should be seeing mine this week, at which point I'll know whether I can use it for a custom project or not
lanikai Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 39mm case---------too small unless you are a girl!!!!!!!!!!!! ohhhh... I could have fun with that remark.. AC L
jj69 Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 George has this on his project log, I bet he will do a better job. Don't be so sure. Have you seen his Mark XV!?
thogaa Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 ohhhh... I could have fun with that remark.. AC L Agree. 39 mm is not a lot
