Acronyms List for Noobs Needed

thogaa

Recommended Posts

Sometimes its hard being a noob around here. All sorts of acronyms are flying through the air: :rolleyes:

I'm at the very least a semi-noob myself, but I do know some of those:

AD = Authorised Dealer

SEL =

MILF = Mother I'd like to f*ck (not entirely sure where this fits in, in relation to watches...)

GEN = genuine (watch)

UPO = Ultimate Planet Ocean (the supposedly best replica of the Planet Ocean)

ETZ = Eurotimez (an EU based dealer)

DSSD = Rolex Deep Sea Seadweller (I think...)

SDDS =

PT = Precious Time (a dealer)

SDS =

SMP = Omega Seamaster Professional

AR = Anti-reflective coating

WTF = what the f*ck?

CONUS = Continental US

SS = stainless steel

PM = personal message (or PM afternoon, but that'd just be too silly I guess)

TT = Trusty Time (a dealer)

Anyway, a very good idea imo (= in my opinion :D). The incessant f*cking use of custom abbreviations is the most insanely annoying thing for a noob as far as I'm concerned, whether here or on any other forum catering to a specialist audience. Someone please, please make an exhaustive list and pin it firmly to the wall in the general section.

Hey, great idea!

Sounds just like a community task that a 147 post newb could take on, with the help of some older members.

We could maybe PIN a well complete and up to date listing

I'll start-

MILF, My current amorous desires!

WTF, An exclamation of disbeliefwhistling.gif

So there's 2 to roll with.

Surely you must have figured out some of the others, and this list really should really be enlarged on.

Go for it. Its your home too!

Offshore

Edit, I see Agrippa has given you a flying start...now let's get a BIG list going.

Put'em up in this thread and I'll make a sorted list to be pinned :clapping:

I believe these are needed too :rolleyes:

DOA = Dead On Arrival

POS = Piece Of Sh*t

Don't quite know where to put

STEBLEHOX = A rare precious metal used for rep bracelets only?

Good to see some input!

FWIW ( for what its worth) you can use the "TT" for trusty, or alternatively for two tone, as in gold and stainless, not necessarily our much vaunted Admin.

O/S

Long, long ago, in a land (not-so) far away...

Isn't SDDS the dyslexic counterpart to DSSD? Sea-Dweller Deep Sea

I know of SSD, Super Sea-Dweller from a couple of years ago- the last of the old style Sea-Dwellers. SDS used to stand for Students for a Democratic Society but that was forty years ago! Also, SDS is a type of rotohammer drill bit- nothing to do w/ watches.

Long, long ago, in a land (not-so) far away... :winkiss: ... here's a blast from the past, A.

http://www.rwgforum....__fromsearch__1

Thanks chubbchubb....I did remember that thread being commenced, but couldn't for the life of me re find it (with our latest goddamn useless version of the search engine!) Looks like it went to Wiki, and thence into the great unknown!

I'll make sure the final version of this is appropriately pinned.

Offshore

PS @ thogaa- Yep, should be COSC.
