jkerouac
IWC is a hot brand this year. I jumped on the GST, and am proudly wearing mine today (white SS with gold hands). It is an awesome watch with an awesome bracelet. Then there is the Jones, with or without the decorated movement, which I am still seriously considering purchasing. And most recently the Portugese Chrono is enjoying a flurry of attention, including a fairly popular group buy. All of these models are beautiful, and I know that some or many people would say 'why not own them all?' After all, there are people who own five or more Pams, or nothing but Speedmasters of different style and vintage. But my question to the board is, if you could only own one IWC, which would it be? The Portugese? Jones? GST? Aquatimer? Other? And in general, how do you rank these different models in terms of appeal?
Watchwatcher
jk, how about this one... 125th Anniversary Portuguese Jubilee edition... Here's Dave Gates' backgrounder (he owns the sister rep of this watch... the only other one i'm aware of) IWC 125th Anniversary Portuguese Jubilee SS; diameter 37+ mm; hand-wound movement; seconds subdial at 6 o'clock To plan for IWC's 125th Anniversary, development began in 1990 of a "Jubilee" edition of the Portuguese that would eventually emerge in 1993. The original watch does not actually say "IWC" on the dial, and its 6 o'clock subdial is quite a bit larger, covering the 6. However, this was a limited edition watch--125 copies to celebrate 125 years--and the rep is a very beautiful "approximation" of this rare Portuguese, which is no doubt is seen only in the finest of private collections. I wore it for the first time today, and as I have occasionally said about certain other watches, this is elegant simplicity at its finest. This is an unpretentious dress watch that just reeks of quality and good taste--no need to say much more Edited August 30, 2006 by Watchwatcher
jkerouac
That is an awesome watch. I'd sign up for that.
Linder
For a long time I wanted a modern Aquatimer. Now that I am into reps, even without a good modern Sea-Dweller, if I could only have one IWC, I wish for a great Big Pilot rep.

robertk
I'm a big fan of IWC and have many of the reps available. One that is at the top is this one, which I rarely hear mentioned. It is soooo accurate! Rep: Real:
alt.watch.obsessive
@ watchwatcher... I have that rep in rose gold from way back...one of my favorites! Cheers.
sye46
As an avid gen IWC collector and fan for the past 6 years, I'm kinda sad that IWC has become this main-stream. When I first bought my GST Chrono a while back, I was so proud to own the brand and model. Now there are reps of my watch left and right. But imitation is the highest form of flattery right? Anyways, if I can have just one IWC... It would have to be the most complicated IWC created ever. The Il Destriero Scafusia.
dadog13
i would like to see a nice rep of the Big Pilot...it would be definitely a "must have" rep.... i think that soon we'll see one of these...the buyers are here...give us the rep! Usil
I have the current version of the Big Pilot (white dial) and in fact am wearing it today. I would go for a better version as well. For me it is PAMS with a close second of IWC followed by Breitling for style but some of the Tags are looking pretty good. (And of course the PO) Usil
