I'm a huge fan of blue dials but I wonder how they ever managed to make a blue dial that boring. The old 16613 blue dial is amazing, this watch has very disappointing color. I must admit it took a while for the smurf dial to grow on me. I almost sold it a couple of times. Seriously though, how did Rolex never make a watch with the 16613 dial in a SS case? I'm already underwhelmed by the new upcoming steel Sub. New Rolexes with those fat lugs and crown guards... you should never touch perfection. Seems that any odd or unusual dial variations that can't be supported or explained otherwise are tagged with the 'special limited edition for the Asian markets' rationale by default, simply to justify a price premium Red dial Daytonas immediately come to mind... I hope this one was "put to sleep" fast. Maybe it was a limited Test run to see how it would fly.Gladly, it didn't! I have never been a fan of the "nipple" dials. and that is a really awful combination of blues.Compared to a 9411 Tudor Blue Sub, this one pales in comparison. ubiquitous Posted March 1, 2010 Report Share Posted March 1, 2010 Well, the myth is that these blue 1680s were Asian market only, but if that were the case, you'd think that there would be more out there to have surfaced by now (so far, it's only the one that was sold by Antiquorum). There is much speculation that the dial came from a 1680/8, and was printed over in silver on the fonts with the markers rhodium plated; dial was retrofitted to a standard SS 1680 and the insert originated from a blue Tudor Sub.
