Guest lolos Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 why the new panerai 177 is so loud?????????????????????????????? the movement
StormTooper4 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 cheap movement, thin crystal, the density of the metal and i think titanium must resonate and some higher pitch frequency than normal steel at least you know its working
hooky Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Yep.. all of that above. The reasons why I would not own a manual wind ti rep anymore. Servicing did make it a bit more quiet on my former 177 though.
carter711 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 It is noticable, my girlfriend remarks on the noise of it sometimes when I'm wearing mine.
Watchmeister Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Too funny. I noticed that years ago with the original Josh 36. If it is the rotor a proper servicing quiets it down. If it is the ticking I am not sure you can do anything.
Adz Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Literally JUST picked mine up from the post office. Yes, it's loud! Gen movement time? Hahaha.
slickdick Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I just love the tune of a movement. As long as it is not a fast beat. 21k6 and below, it is melancholic to just listen time passing by, every movement a different tune

Adz Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I'm not bothered by nice clocks ticking away but this is loud. When I'm sitting in my office here all I hear is tick tick tick...
mactower Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 LOL, just picked mine up and it's really noticeable. I have a PAM Fiddy and it's been serviced by Zig and the tic is noticeable in a very quiet setting, close to my ear. This 177L is pretty loud though. Nice, but noticeable. tic tic tic tic tic
automatics Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 while the volume is probably not true to the real movement. the soothing, rapid ticking is wonderful. the mechanical beauty of automatics & manual winds. primarily what sets these watches apart from droning tick that quartz produces.
grifter Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I've got an old school rep 177H and it too is LOUD. Wonder if there is a way to dampen the tic?
vafarmer70 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I've got an old school rep 177H and it too is LOUD. Wonder if there is a way to dampen the tic? Put it in a desk drawer.. Honestly the 177 I had was pretty noisy..
permabull Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Hey at least yours works, one of the new 177Ls I ordered came DOA. The crown-stem setup is poor, cant wind the movement at all. Its a beauty to behold otherwise though, one of the best cases IMO. Though I cant comment on if the movement is noisy - havent heard it yet :-)
mambo Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I can't say that my 177L is more loud then for instance my serviced 'swiss' DSN 112 .... It is noticeable but that's about it, and I do like the ticking sound though
