prdubis
Hi mates, Been trying to bleach insert for months now, without results! Am I doing something wrong? I use bleach = sodium hypochlorite. According to some tutorials I've read here and there, I mix it with hot water (50/50%). I drop the insert inside the bowl, slightly shake it and wait for 5 to 10 minutes, then remove the insert and wash it under running water. I have tried this method on MBW, Puretime, WSO990 inserts and they didn't bleach at all!!! I left them in the mix for half an hour without result! Pure bleach doesn't do the job neither! Man, what's going on? Is your bleach more concentrated in the US? Do I miss something in the method? Waiting for your help! Thanks!
asf
I use bleach (i dont cut it with water) in a shallow dish and let it sit and swirl once a while. I'll dip it in water to clear the bleach and wipe clean. It took about 15-20 mins. Then I put a coat of matte spray on it
HauteHippie
How about teeth whitening solution? Also, try using polishing clothes to even things out.
bwhitesox
Don't they have like a very thin layer of plastic or some other protectant on the bezels that you have to remove first before bleaching?

prdubis
Thanks bwhitesox, will have a look at it... I will try to use pure bleach on a MBW insert from noon to midnight today, let's see how it works...
prdubis
My MBW insert is soaking in pure bleach (40g of chlorine/liter, is it the same for you?) + salt + oxyclean for ten minutes without ANY effect (except the insert looks shiny and clean, lol ) That's weird! woof*
I've had several that bleach had no effect. The last one I did, I used a scotch brite pad softy on it before soaking and it seemed to help a little bit. I got the idea to try that from pmwf.

hiker01
You sure it's not Ceramic????
prdubis
Yep, sure it's metal, it's coming from a MBW 1680 and the other one is coming from Puretime vintage Rolex collection... I will post pics soon, but bleach hasn't done anything!!!
Ephry73
I would use a bit of 100% acetone on the insert first(with a paper towel for god friction) then use the bleach. If it's not ceramic, the f-er must age! E
Martyd3
I am using Draino to bleach my inserts. I'm sure any drain cleaning product will work. You need to keep a very close eye on what you are doing. It works fast. You don't need to sand the insert, polish it when you are done or anything else. Most inserts will take a couple of minutes at the most. A gen insert, a little longer. This insert is evenly faded. What you are seeing between the 40 and 50 is lighting and shadows. Ephry73
Speaking of polishing, I have gotten really good results with 2 micron paste and a dremel on high E
cjjoyce1
Yup dude, join the club. I've tried bleaching inserts using straight Clorox. Left one overnight it was ticking me off so bad. Not a thing happened. It's strange that some people have accidentally over-bleached theirs in under 15 minutes, too.
Martyd3
I've left MBW inserts soak in bleach for days with little or no fading. Try the Drano, you will be amazed
Whatever123
My MBW 1680 insert faded nicely in about 15 minutes in "Sagrotan Schimmelfrei" but I had another insert that didn't show any effect for hours... and then went white in a couple of minutes... prdubis
Thank you Marty, your insert is fabulous and it's the look I intend to get!! WIll definitely try Drano, is it a US product?
Dizzy
Hey guys whats up? I find that most aftermarket inserts need a pre-scuffing before the bleach can really do its job evenly. I usually pre-scuff and pre-scratch the insert to get the patina I am looking for, then i fade it. Seems to work well that way. I use 50:50 bleach water. Might have to give draino a try next time.
